  1. He was born in Milwaukee and graduated from Marquette High and U. The Tomorrow Show was great and his interviews great with some goofiness thrown in. Something really new and cutting edge at the time. His style was obnoxious to some but I enjoyed it a lot.
  2. How about those who need a break stay away and those who don't, don't. It would something akin to free choice, a novel concept.
  3. Did he call him out or did he just call strike 3? Without understanding the explanation don't know.
  4. I'm not a lawyer but it seems laws often come down to what can reasonably be expected to happen as a result of a person's actions. Expecting that news people will cover your crime and may have a fatal accident seems a stretch. Expecting that police or innocent drivers/pedestrians could be hurt/killed in a high speed chase doesn't seem like a stretch to me. While the primary assumption of risk resides with an accomplice, the other perpetrator also can be expected to know that by carrying out a crime with the accomplice, the accomplice could get hurt/killed. I can't explain it any better than that and I don't know what an actual legal ruling would be.
  5. 609(b) The third strike called by the umpire is not caught, providing (1) first base is unoccupied, or (2) first base is occupied with two out; Rule 6.09(b) Comment: A batter who does not realize his situation on a third strike not caught, and who is not in the process of running to first base, shall be declared out once he leaves the dirt circle surrounding home plate. You can't see for sure but it doesn't look like he took enough steps to leave the dirt circle.
  6. Neither did the accomplice. That's my point. I guess the distinction we're drawing is who can the perpetrator reasonably expect he's putting at risk by his actions. By plotting with an accomplice, he knows the accomplice is being put at risk. Likewise, by racing down streets at high speed while being chased by the police he knows the police and innocent drivers and pedestrians are being put at risk. The question is do you hold someone responsible for an accident involving third parties who unnecessarily and deliberately do something risky on their own.
  7. The news people sought out the action and an accident happened. They didn't inadvertently become involved in it like a driver or pedestrian could have been. That's the differentiating point that was being made.
  8. I don't think an accomplice is by any stretch an innocent bystander though.
  9. There was no playoff in '82, they won on the last game of the season, at Baltimore, against Palmer, having needed only to have won 1 of the first 3 to clinch. That's tension. Very few teams run away from everyone and have a comfortable season. It's a long 6 month season and the best teams don't win at nearly the high rate as with football or basketball so there are more ups and downs. When the Sox won in '05 it must have seemed really comfortable until September when they slumped and Cleveland came on to put a scare into the Sox fans only to fall short. This is the way pennant races generally are. Most here just don't know from first hand experience.
  10. I wonder if JJ is still having some lingering hip/back issues and they're just playing it cautiously.
  11. Internists and GPs generally aren't going to read the xrays themselves. They get a report from a radiologist. The report may have noted the previous breaks but noted no current issues with them and the doctor just said it was fine. Soft tissue problems leading to pain aren't going to show on an xray. Doctors are under pressure from insurance companies to see as many patients as possible. It's not your problem when they're running late. If a doctor short changes you because of the pressure it's time to get a new doctor especially since you have no history with him/her.
  12. Don't like it at all. The Pads are in a race and don't see him as a significant contributor. I don't like rentals in general but for questionable bullpen help at the price of Inman this sucks.
  13. Is one of your 403bs a Roth? Does your employers offer one? They became available in 2006 along with Roth 401ks. Usually the same investment options as the non-roth but you pay taxes now and not when you retire. There is a maximum amount you can contribute each year to retirement accounts so you need to not exceed that.
  14. Gord Ash has said on a couple occasions Parra will probably be a relief guy. Given the injury history he probably did say that and it's what I thought too. Just not durable enough to go 200 innings. Then this year happened with strong starting at AA and AAA. I'm not sure anything said prior to his elevation to AAA still applies. If Gord said that in the last month or so I'd be surprised. Manny could still break down but I don't think only a relief role is a given anymore.
  15. Well then, the simplest assumption to make is that the video shooter or someone affiliated with them posted it on Youtube and knows what kinds of animals they are.
  16. It looks like it could be baby or pigmy hippo to me. Being a captive environment, who knows what animals they have together and from where?
  17. Yes, thanks for any play by play during the big freeze.
  18. I heard somewhere he could wear a splint at some point so he could start throwing and keep stretched out as much as possible. He just wouldn't be snapping off any curves. Edit: I missed that Russ already mentioned this.
  19. I don't expect every post to be stripped of all emotion. Hell, I have emotional responses to the goings of this team all the time. My personal preference is for it not to become on of the the primary purposes of these boards, however. If you go to other Brewer message boards, the majority of threads are either ripping Brewer players to shreds with childish puns (TurnBLOW!!!! JenKKKKins LOL!!!) or people constantly predicting a Brewer collapse (The Brewers will lose their 3.5 game lead in 2 days!). If that's really how people want to enjoy the Brewers, they don't even need to come here to do it. Brian and the moderators have reigned some rants in and of course banned some people, but their vision of Brewerfan seems more inclusive of varying points of view and posting/content styles than yours. I suggest we let them set the parameters on these things.
  20. I think I recall someone posting something similiar following a spring game. Not sure if it was the same poster.
  21. If you take a player off the 40 man they have to pass through waivers. The only way I see of being on the 40 man, not on the 25 man and not being assigned to the minors without clearing waivers if they're out of options is to be on the 15 day DL.
  22. It is certainly valid to suggest that in that at bat last night the overwhelming # of us could have put a similar swing on that ball. That's true but what point does it make? By your logic, most of us are better than Ryan Braun because we couldn't get enough wood on a major league pitch to ground into a double play. None of us could have hit that rocket up the middle and no pitcher would ever worry about us enough to walk us.
  23. They may not be viewing Manny only for the bullpen in Milwaukee and may want to keep him stretched out by having him go 6 or 7 each start but giving him more rest between starts.
  24. Manny's already thrown 106 innings this year. With his injury history limiting his innings the last few years, they may be looking to keep his innings down so he can be of use to the Brewers at some point this year.
  25. Number 715 was on 4/8/74.
