  1. Guess I don't see that it's obvious. After only 6 weeks she can't decline to hang with your group to hang with hers? Does your buddy always accept invitations to hang with her group at the expense of hanging with yours? Some people take time to warm up to new people, some are by nature distant in general, some vary back and forth. Vive le difference. Six weeks doesn't seem like a full time committment is necessarily in order yet.
  2. John, your insights are often worth a lot, but please spare us this "I'm morally superior to you weaklings" bit. But to beat on such a poster -- and insult every person on this board in the bargain -- because he doesn't satisfy your macho ethos of condemning mediocrity in all its forms Wow, you read all that into it? You must have some special glasses. Moral superiority? Weaklings? Macho ethos? That's a big stretch. I don't feel personally insulted. I'm with casey, you move more cautiously when you have to DFA someone and may not have the option of going back. There's certainly the possiblity Parra/Balfour could struggle.
  3. If I lived in Mexico, I would make every effort to learn Spanish and if I couldn't figure it out I would move. If you were making millions of dollars in Mexico you wouldn't need to learn Spanish and I doubt you'd move and pass up millions more. I heard Vlad speaks fluent French having spent all those years in Montreal.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. They don't but his reference was to small market vs. large market which is primarily determined by local media revenue.
  5. Is this what it's like for all fans of division leaders? I remember this one particular year. Brewers had a 3 game lead with 4 to play. Everyone knows the rest of the story. Add on dropping the 1st two in the division series. Of course people were tougher then. I fear for the fatalities that could happen this year under simliar circumstances.
  6. Does anyone know if the pitchers started their warmups before the delay?
  7. Big league and minor league careers. Otherwise Villy would be in there too.
  8. Not sure game shows are bigger and better things. Joe hosted several but also hosted the Today show for a long stretch which probably is bigger and better.
  9. That's great. Anything is better than nothing which is what he's become. Normally I'd say I hope the change of scenery helps him but he has not endeared himself to me to say that.
  10. though I get the feeling Villanueva will get traded eventually, sooner than later, since Melvin has shown he's willing to trade relievers for needed pieces and replace them easily. Villy isn't viewed as a reliever. He's viewed as a starter who's currently in a relief role, the same as Yo will be when Cappy comes back. I don't see him going anywhere. I also don't see anywhere to improve the club this year except a better right handed partner for Jenks and the bullpen. Yo's the improvement in 1 1/2 months in the rotation. I wouldn't trade Manny except in a really good deal at this point but certainly would trade Jackson, Gwynn, Sarfate, pretty much anyone at AAA or AA. It would have to be a really good deal to trade Manny, Palmisano and Inman IMO.
  11. I'll say Prince, Coco, Ben with JJ in the final man vote. SS in the NL is just really tough with 5 with a legit claim.
  12. You had the right to vote no as a tax payer, once the decision was made, you had no more rights, that's democracy. The stadium district represents you, the elected officials represent you, you have no power or leverage with any sports franchise. You either choose to support them, or you don't. I don't want to get into a sidebar arguement about entitlement, but fans aren't entitled to anything more than a GM's best effort. How you spend your money and time is entirely up to you. No, that's not democracy. Once the vote in a normal election is over you still have the right to write or call your alderman, congressman, senator, even the president to voice objections to policies. You also have the right to lawfully assemble to voice objections. Same with public funding decisions. Regarding corporations, people have the right to protest, picket, boycott, whatever to voice displeasure with a corporations policies. It's not a sense of entitlement, it's being able to voice your opinion. Maybe you don't live in the US.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif As for the Pirates, one thing DM has been willing to do is not worrying about fan reaction to trades etc. when trying to improve the team. The Pirates overpaid to sign the popular Jack Wilson. DM was willing to trade Richie, Pods, Carlos when they were popular, not overpay for them and get something for them without caring about the reaction of talk radio and the masses of fans saying they were cheap etc. The Brewers have been somewhat lucky the way guys have panned out particularly the non first round guys like JJ, Corey, Bill Hall, Yo. But I think DM has just been more willing to be patient and stick to the only plan small market teams can have and not spend money on band-aid solutions to improve 70 win teams.
  13. 6IP, 92 pitches should be the end. Villy, Turnbow, Cordero for me.
  14. I think you're thinking of the '92 Brewers regarding playoff tickets. The '93 Brewers were 69-93.
  15. So, can we have an official Brewerfan banning of the phrase "same old Brewers". After the 24-12 start and during the 10-20 fall the phrase came out. Getting back to 14 over .500 doesn't seem to relate to the "same old Brewers". I never got the reference anyway. What does the 1993 or 1999 team have to do with the 2006 or 2007 team. New owner, new GM, new manager, new players(except for Jenks in '99). The only way that anything can be explained by "same old Brewers" is if the whole thing has been Bill Castro's fault.
  16. It is a family section, so yes the people who sit there are very friendly. We've sat there 5 or 6 times over the years and I don't recall being in the sun at all.
  17. Americans with Disabilities Act.
  18. If this were in Wisconsin, the guy would be prosecuted as a sex offender. The age of consent is 18 in Wisconsin, 16 in NC. Still you'd think there'd be something additional about a teacher/student relationship along the lines of psychiatrist/patient regardless of age.
  19. Counsell caught it in short left center and the runner wandered off too far. Just stupid base running.
  20. Double switch so Villy could go 2 innings.
  21. Tony chose Ned in 2005, the last time he was manager. Perhaps Ned didn't want to do it again. He wants to be the manager next year. I doubt guys like Cox and Torre want to be coaches in the allstar game.
  22. It was a nice post Stein. Too bad the thread turned into a total crapfest due to poster's other agendas.
  23. Really unbelievable. At 93 pitches Yo should be done for the night.
  24. Man, I hate when the Brewers can only hit 6.45 ERA pitchers for an 11.5 ERA.
  25. I'm thinking it should have been Estrada covering third once Braun was out of position. As slow as Johnny is the runner would have passed him and headed to an uncovered home plate.
