  1. I posted that rule in the Houston Series Umpiring/Prince thread. I think batters argue balls/strikes frequently. You just can't be excessive like with any argument. According to the rule, no judgement call can be argued at all but we know that's not true. I don't think it's automatic for the batter, just for those who don't have a decent or any view of the strikezone. The catcher wouldn't have to leave his position to argue either, the pitcher probably would but sometimes they have a conference with the catcher and voice their opinion when the ump comes out to break it up.
  2. Normally there is a cutoff date for age determination and it could be different than the school systems' or the basketball camp's date. You could have 5 year olds who are exactly 5 years on that date and 8 year and 364 day olds who then turn 9. I'd think you need to be on solid ground with the age. You could inquire about it non beligerently. At that age though, winning isn't that important and if it's true I'd probably use it as a life lesson about cheating and a lack of satisfaction in accomplishments when you do cheat.
  3. OPS isn't any kind of stat for comparing across eras. OPS+ is the only thing to use here, considering stadium changes also and it's not perfect.
  4. As far as I go back, which is to the 50s, using the phrase jewboy, calling adult black males 'boy', using the term nappy-headed(in the news a while back) were and still are in some circles phrases used to denigrate minorities. That some people in these groups have chosen to adopt some of these phrases within their own trusted circle doesn't mean all members of minorities are comfortable with it or that it's mainstream. Not everyone seeing that avatar was going to see the issues thread and the explanation and a good number of new or casual readers would wonder what kind of ship Brewerfan is running. I know you're trying to run a tighter ship on language, personal attacks, political attacks etc. than Yahoo, mlb, espn and I for one appreciate it. Turning being sensitive about an at best questionably insulting avatar into charges of anti-semitism is ridiculous. To me his later posts made it seem more of an anti-politically correct crusade than anything about Jewish pride. One of the best and also the worst things about the internet is the anonymity. You say you have no reason to not believe him but you also have no reason to believe him either, except our desire to believe most people are on the up and up and give them the benefit of the doubt. I don't know what went on privately with this but if it were my site, I would have deleted it first, asked questions second and wouldn't have reinstated it. I would have explained the reasons above and asked for compliance. If someone isn't willing to comply with that I would just assume they're not interested in being a meaningful contributor to the site. Seems pretty much what you guys did.
  5. Runs through 2012. Second item here: http://blogs.jsonline.com/businessofsports/archive/2006/10.aspx
  6. The record is 2,811,041. They've averaged 34,824 so far and need to average 34,402 to break it. But September, weekdays at least, will be smaller crowds no matter how much the Brewers are still in it. Little advance group sales and school. They'll definitely get to the 2nd highest in MP history which was last year at 2,335,643.
  7. I also miss the scoreboard at County Stadium. That was a thing of wonder when it was first put up. With the idea of replacing the stadium it lasted at least 11 years too long.
  8. Having started going to games at County when it was only 4 years old, it was a magical place as a kid. But like all things it became obsolete, especially with the lack of maintenance starting in the '90s. The best things were the prices(I realize they had to change) and the sight lines as long as you weren't behind a post and the green, green grass. I also liked that County was more of a pitcher's park, especially for HRs. MP has its warts. Sat in the RF Loge outfield last month for the first time last month. Couldn't see what happened with 4 balls hit as much as 20' from the line. That's pathetic for a new park. Won't be sitting there any more. Don't like when it becomes an oven or sweat box either.
  9. I am just proposing the question that do we know for sure the Brewers are going to stick to their original plan? Of course we don't know for sure. They've said it but no one made them swear on a stack of bibles or cross their hearts. I would suspect they will stay with it though.
  10. It make me uneasy when people give advice on how to get around corporate policies regarding the internet. There will be varying degrees of sophistication when it comes to identifying violators and enforcing the policies depending on the company. I think people do so at their own risk. You aren't anonymous within the corporate network and you'd think companies with any sophistication would be blocking proxy sites anyway if they're blocking other sites.
  11. Don't you have a baseball icon in the left column when a new post has been added to a thread?
  12. I bet the odds are better that someone you want to read didn't make the last new post than that they did. True, but it's not about whether you'll ever see the intermediate posts, just when. If the last poster is someone I want to read I'll do it now, if not I'll catch all the unread posts later.
  13. there are likely other new posts before the last one I find a lot of times when I go back to the topic list after reading a thread, there's already a new post. Depends on who posted it whether I go right back into it.
  14. Don't know what to say, I'm not. The Last Post column in a forum list looks too narrow to even display a username. When there's a 4 digit time, the AM or PM is on a 3rd line: 07/17/07 10:16 PM
  15. The username making the last post is not there in the individual forum thread lists. It was for a while after the migration but then disappeared.
  16. Anyone see a 'Mark all forums read' option? It's a tiny bit of a pain to go into the softball or draft forums to mark them read to get rid of the balls.
  17. Prince looked mighty fine the rest of his ABs. He's was dangling his arm and grimacing running to first after his single in the 12th. Maybe they just want Dillon in Milwaukee just in case. They did that with Dickey last week but never activated him.
  18. Apparently the mind control experiment was successful.
  19. Message Board's impact on outcome of game Zilch, but it's been fun hasn't it?
  20. I can't watch or listen tonight. Too bad. Hasn't been much to the game to talk about though.
  21. Because it wasn't going to happen. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. Nice pitching from Soup, Carlos and Turnbow tonight.
  23. Why all the smart aleck answers lately?
  24. That's a municipal stadium ticket. Box at County was $8 at one point with lower grand at $6 but they went to $10 and $8 at some point, don't know when. Yeah, we did worry about $2 back then.
  25. He'll miss the Cubs too so it's a wash.
