  1. I'm frequently in the vicinity of Lafayette, Indiana, even though I'm not.
  2. If a manager works completely around the DH, he wouldn't have to give up the DH. If you stash a pitcher in left field, the DH isn't touched. What you probably remember is a situation where the DH had to be moved to a defensive position. That would force the pitcher to bat. That's something that happens to every AL team now and then.
  3. Outstate = within a state, but outside of the major metropolitan areas. As far as out of state goes, radio restrictions seem to be much looser than TV restrictions--if there are any at all. When WTMJ dropped the Wisconsin Rapids station, it started picking up Cubs games.
  4. The advantage WTMJ offers is that it can be received in Chicago. It may or may not help in areas beyond southern Wisconsin. If it does help, it should be considered nothing but a bonus. The problem outstate is that WTMJ has the privilege of putting together the network. The prime example is that it dropped longtime affiliates like Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids under guise that these people were capable of receiving Wausau's WSAU. There are two problems with that. The main one is that these people can't get that station. Secondarily, WSAU farms out all weekday games to a very weak station on Wausau's AM dial. The Chicago issue is probably going to be hard to address without sticking to WTMJ. The areas of southern Wisconsin that might lose some coverage can be taken care of by adding more stations to the network. The issues outstate can be addressed with a contract that welcomes stations rather than excluding them. That can happen no matter who the flagship is. Heck, if the Brewers wanted to, they could set up the network themselves rather than giving the flagship station that right. There's nothing wrong with double-covering an area, either. A few more FM stations here and there would help people in AM fringe areas. A decade or so ago, listeners used to have that, and they still do with Packer broadcasts.
  5. What has displeased me about WTMJ is the absolutely bogus job they've done in assembling the statewide network. There are people outstate who are shut out, even though local stations in their areas would be happy to carry the games. As far as Jim Powell goes, I think he'd be part of the package no matter who carries the games.
  6. And I see that Peavey has already approved you. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. As others have said, your Brewerfan login transfers to LambeauLeap. You'll need to be approved for membership, but rest assured that you won't have an issue being admitted to post. We tried "inviting" members, which is supposed to bypass the approval thing. However, a bug in the system means that everyone--even the moderators--have needed to be approved. You can bring up the MBA (application) page by hitting the Reply link in any post. However, I can short-cut you to it: LambeauLeap Forums Membership Application Page Peavey and I have been pretty expeditious about approving new members, so you shouldn't have to wait very long. EDIT: The second link And That posted will get you to the board itself.
  8. I'd say that my disdain for Estrada and Clark being among those who've occupied #5 probably spilled over into my thoughts about Hall. If one really wanted to be fair, s/he could probably justify fairly similar OPS projections for Corey and Billy. Still, I think you get a better OBP out of Corey, and you also get a younger player with more potential to grow. I think Hall will regress toward his mean this year, but using recent performance as another tie-breaker wouldn't seem to be out of line. I wouldn't have used Hall's stats confined to the #5 spot, though. The sample's too small. Heck, you can make a similar case for him using his overall stats, anyway.
  9. gregmag, I've heard that #4 is the guy who leads off more innings than anyone other than the leadoff hitter, but the point is still that the #5 guy should be a good hitter and Ned doesn't respect that. It's almost as if #5 is an afterthought.
  10. When the stadium was built, it was made so air conditioning could be installed if it was wanted down the road. But the problem is that air conditioned stadiums need a couple of hours or more to cool down. If the roof were closed because a storm was coming in a few minutes, the air conditioning wouldn't do any good anyway.
  11. We should really be focusing on the chart and the related article: Is Joe Torre Worth the Money? If it doesn't work out that way, we can merge this into the current designated thread or move it to Statistical Analysis. EDIT: fixed link
  12. In general, I think ticket prices are high enough that booing the home team is not automatically rotten. However, it would seem that with a new season, a fresh start is in order. And it seems especially silly to boo players at an exhibition game.
  13. I've always felt Al's dealer was honest and fair, too. On one car I bought, they did some custom install stuff because I didn't like the original third party option; they gave me the parts at cost and put a cap on the labor. Al, you should ask if this problem would affect what you'd get as a trade-in if you purchased a new vehicle from the same dealer. It could be that it might not matter to them.
  14. For those of us who feel that the #5 guy should be a team's third or fourth best hitter, this kinda sucks--especially when there are no lefties to have to try to spread out.
  15. brewcrewkid14, Tuesday is built into the schedule as a make-up day. It's pretty typical to "protect" Opening Day like that in cities that stand a good chance of having lousy April weather.
  16. cubfan1126 is definitely a welcome addition to this board. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Adding to what obsessed said about mechanical issues, the Brewers were limited to doing manual roof closures during all of 2006 and part of 2007. Instead of being able to close the roof in about 10 minutes, closures took 20 minutes or more. If the roof can be closed in 10 minutes, it's pretty safe to spot weather coming and then react. 20 minutes is too long. The team had to close the roof when it thought there might be inclement weather. That shouldn't be the case anymore.
  17. I'm pretty open minded as long as the cereal isn't sprayed with sugar.
  18. If I remember correctly, I believe Al has a Saturn SL, so it would have to be a 2002 or earlier.
  19. Gallardo to DL, Stetter and Rottino to AAA... But Randy Choate is hurt, too! (15-day DL)
  20. That's because VORP is a counting stat. As a player's plate appearances go up, his VORP will likely go up... or maybe I should say it had better go up.
  21. I've mentioned this before, but it's worth repeating: ask that the package be opened before you leave the store, and let the employee cut his/her hand.
  22. In the 3+ years since joining this message board, this is officially the most idiotic post I have read. If you've been reading this board for 3+ years, you should be familiar enough with the rules to realize that condescension like that isn't allowed around here. Secondarily, before you even mentioned blue, the member whose post you dumped on had already stated that he didn't know how to "do" blue. He shouldn't have needed to mention it twice. Besides that, blue isn't a requirement. The rules refer to it as a "potentially useful suggestion." That's as it should be. Some people don't know how to create blue text. More importantly, color shouldn't be relied upon to convey meaning on the web: some viewers can't see colors.
  23. Oh geez... we went through that in 2004 and ended up with goodies like Brady Clark hitting fifth. Yuckomundo!
