  1. Bud needs to step in for the sake of the game and fire this Reds announcer that grand slam call makes me want to watch competitive knitting.
  2. Holy cow is this Reds radio announcer bad. I'm not one to complain, but I can hear the gears grinding in his head before every call, either that or he keeps gasping inaudibly. Then Weeks homer call sounded like a fly ball! Just a monotone into left field he's going back, then he's looking up and it's a two-0 ball game. Good grief Vulcan's show more emotion than this guy.
  3. In a world of 6 foot tall over inflated egos I'll root for a guy my height anyday of the week.
  4. I don't think that is that much off his career numbers at this point. Pujols crushes everyone.
  5. Kind of hard to explain what I'm talking about in one sentence. But we've all seen the one trick minor league wonders who burn out as they advance. The Esix Snead all speed player, the Jose Mercedes deceptive breaking ball, the All power pitcher no control, the swing for the fences only player, the occaisonal walk-aholic. My question is which one of these tools leads to the most deceptive lower minor league stats? I think speed is the worst offender with all of the different ways that speed can inflate batting average against lower level competition, and of course the ridiculous steal totals. Followed probably by the breaking ball no fastball pitcher, and then free swingers
  6. Perhaps Capellan's concern is that he can't out pitch Sarfate to get back? Interesting comparison between the two pitchers in terms of professionalism in handling this.
  7. What's almost as amazing as Prince being on base seven times is the fact that we still only scored 3 runs! It's nearly impossible not to score 3 runs by your self if you are on base that often.
  8. I think it would be instructive bradyo if you looke at BAs top 5 or 10 over the last 10 years. Repeating at number 1 is nearly impossible because if your prospects are good enough to put you up there they are almost definitely off the list and playing in the big leagues by the next year. Point 2 large jumps up the list are usually spurred by a two factors. 1) large numbers of supplemental picks from departed free agents 2) trades of major leaguers for prospects The Brewers haven't gotten any benefit from number 1 and the benefits to the farm system for number 2 have been very muted. Most of the prospects we've gotten of any consequence went on to play in the majors very quickly and tended not to linger in the minors to boost our depth. Which means that the ranking for Jack is all about consistently drafting well with no real back up stream for talent. Very few other teams can boast that kind of consisten performance. The A's heavily have used extra picks. Atlanta has benefitted somewhat from extra picks. Diamondbacks have mostly done it through the draft as have the Twins. The Rays have always had awesome draft position.
  9. Well theoretically at one point they had interest in an OF as well. I'd love for the Brewers to spin a two for one deal and get a pitching prospect of some caliber or a passable bullpen arm possibly.
  10. You know you can rationalize a lot of really bumb behavior, but this I can't even begin to fathom a thought process that leads to stealing moderately valuable property.
  11. THere are a variety of sophisticated ways to address your notion of game within a game point of view and most of what you talked about is why PECTOA includes collapse and breakout rates as part of it's profile. It is clear that whether or not you realize it your world view is strongly influenced by Mark Twain's awful quote about statistics. This notion that because people can be misleading with statistics means that they don't have any true meaning is a very passive agressive attitude towards science. It is one thing to differ in opinions it is another to say I cannot be proven wrong unless you can back that argument up on epistimelogical grounds.
  12. Is that their polite way of saying they might be interested, but they want to take as long a look at the Brewer OFs as possible? The ABs may not mean a lot sample size, but the clump of OF we have is fairly tightly bunched in terms of abilities. Lots of different strengths and weaknesses which is why you let your scouts try and get a nice look and see who matches best at this stage.
  13. I gotta say it seems pretty silly to shift the roster size up and down in the middle of the season.
  14. Perhaps this would be a good point to start a discussion on what kinds of changes we will see in draft strategy this year without the DFE process. Since the rule change only affects about 40% of the players the Brewers have been drafting there has to be some sort of change.
  15. It's worth noting that if you go way back the I believe early on Brewerfan was able to have more discussions of hotter topics. But as the number of posters grew and we became less familiar with one another it became much harder for people to self regulate, which makes the job all of the moderators do here even more impressive.
  16. I just have this guess that Nintendo is slow playing the virtual console releases to have some more potential releases and such. I mean they could realisitcally release like all of that in a week or so I'd guess, but it's possible that would hurt their new game sales when people sat down and decided they could buy up to 10 games they know they like for the price of one
  17. How would that be a good trade for the Brewers? Willis is living off his first half a year reputation as being an ace. While he has been good, but nowhere near as dominating as Ben has been.
  18. If I was building the Crew this offseason Koskie at 6.5 million looks like a pretty interesting deal. Granted I wouldn't pay nearly that much because of his head injury this year, but if he were to hit those plate appearance totals that looks like a pretty good price on a one year deal in all likelihood.
  19. Wow I agree how much is Melvin paying this guy?
  20. Adapting Roberts point, the effect of adding Suppan is equal to finding one Ohka type player and an average reliever all at the same time, and if we get enough rotation innings that we have a lot fewer relief innings not only is it less innings from really bad pitchers, but it may tilt to roster towards have an extra position player, which never hurts when it comes to having tactical options in the late innings. Those 30-40 innings more that you can expect out of Suppan over another pitcher are simply huge.
  21. I guess I would contend somewhat with characterizing ST louis as having a great defense. Rolen and Pujols are certainly very good to outstanding. But Belliard and Eckstein? Seem like average guys to my recollection, and average guys up the middle doesn't make for an outstanding defense merely a good one.
  22. The definition of a No 1 starter is very murky, but in the realm of prospects it seems that the only way to be a potential No 1 is to have a fastball starting at 95 or better
  23. Just to pile on Hank has to be worth atleast have of Bonds at this point, he's knees might even be better. And it's probably agood thing we got ourselves anotehr catcher less Ueck started to think he could give it one last go, our offense just couldn't take that much of a hit http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. It's possible Towers might have a little conversation with Doug, and agree to sign Graff as a consideration for trading for Mench with a slightly less valuable player. Something akin to potential reliever in AA and a draft pick as total compensation. Kind of sneaky but I think it would make everyone happy.
  25. I wonder if Turnbow's agent already called him and has set up some home showings? Yeah I'm not motivated is about as plain a Melvin speak gets. Translation: I'm content to keep him, but I find your offer intriguing and I can tell you'll give me what I want to finish the deal.
