He has pitched well against lefties and righties this year but traditionally more of a loogy. Should slot into this bullpen nicely. Another lefty pitcher that the Rays did not want to tender a contract to.
It looks like Lorenzen may have been using the bat to prevent getting hit so he was kind of intending to meet with the bat to prevent getting hit in the face. So by rule maybe still a strikeout.
I believe if they option Guerra he would be 1 day short of 20. The Brewers season began March 29th and he was recalled April 11th so 13 days optioned thus far. Send him to Wisconsin where they have no shot at the playoffs and recall him September 4th. Could still then be starting depth in 2019.
I don't know if he makes it to the Brewers but would certainly make the remaining Reds games a little more interesting with him hitting Votto earlier this month. With roster expansion in a couple of days could always use another veteran arm.
Well the Brewers did sign 32 year old Cain to a five year contract that ends the same year that Yelich's contract ends in 2022. Certainly too early to think extension now but will have to see where the Brewers are in a couple of years and where they are in the window to compete for the playoffs. If it looks like a rebuild is on the horizon may not want to extend as an extension may reduce his trade value. If things are looking good then consider extending another few years through his age 33 season.
It was great that Lyles walked and scored the winning run but he still pitched two innings and was in line to lose the game. It is a tough business and the pitcher they bring up is likely better than Lyles anyway.
It is the lesser of 10 days or the end of the Sky Sox season, which would be September 3rd. If they make the playoffs then the season would be even longer. Guess they could send them down to Carolina or Wisconsin if the Brewers want to make sure they get them back after the 3rd.
The manager can most definitely put the player in the best position to succeed. If there isn't a defined 7th or 8th or 9th inning guy and he is playing the matchups and each pitcher's strengths then it can be easier for the pitcher to do their job.
It is interesting how his final number always seem to be around the same but because of his low on base there tends to be brutal stretches along the way. His first month of the year was painful to watch.
The Cubs series are always important but this Braves series will have a huge impact on who makes the playoffs. Really could go anywhere from a nice 4 game lead over the Braves to being 4th in the Wild Card Standings. Hope the Brewers go all out to win all three as these games do count more than others.
Like reilly said it is more about approach and for the most part it has been better. There was a strikeout like his third game back that was like same old Arcia but for the most part I think he is looking better. That clutch hit he had on Sunday also impressed me. That take out his best game argument I have never liked, if you take out his first game back from the minors he is slashing 333/394/500.
Yeah service time is service time, it doesn't matter when in the regular season it is. September time does not count toward rookie eligibility however. If for example Corbin Burnes didn't accumulate 45 days by August 31 then he would still be considered a rookie next year even if he passed the 45 day mark in September.
I knew the Brewers claimed Lyles but never really looked at his stats and I am kind of amazed he has been this bad being able to have a career ERA over 5 and still somehow accumulate nearly 7 years of service time.
From what I can tell he only used options in 2017 and 2018 so should have another one in 2019. Claiming a minor leaguer shouldn't really impact a serious contender's playoff run. If they find somebody else to help the big league club they will just DFA Hernandez or another minor league guy like Asher. Nothing wrong with this move.
Nobody is going to claim him and Braun would block it any way so there really isn't any chance he is gone anytime soon. They should have traded him to the Dodgers a couple of years ago but nothing they can do about the past so doesn't really matter. Still look forward to watching Braun during the stretch run in September as some guys can just deliver in big moments and think he is one of them.
I'm really starting to think that will be the case either with the Brewers tied with the Cubs or the Wild Card. Kind of fear that Chacin or somebody else will have a game like the one against the Dodgers if they have back to back elimination type games.
The way it has been going the less day games the better. Unless I’m missing something, the Brewers have lost their last 8 road getaway games. They have the worst day game record in the National League, the best record in the major leagues at night.
He has a guaranteed contract for next year so don't know if they would do that. Now if Albers still isn't healthy then that is a different story and they should go after Kelley.
Wouldn't really surprise me if they started Nelson as part of a bullpen game and he went two innings and the remainder went to Burnes/Hader/Soria/Jeffress/Knebel. Could then set the rotation for the remaining playoff games. Really think relying on the bullpen gives the Brewers the best chance to win one game plus they can pinch hit the pitcher every time it comes up since the starters don't have to be on the wild card roster.
