  1. When Schoop's name was initially brought up as a potential target to start the season guys like Hiura and Burnes were being brought up. Have to give credit to brewcrewdue80 for calling the Ortiz/Villar return when Schoop's name resurfaced in July. The trade fits the need for another righty in the lineup. Won't have to feel the need to play Shaw and Moose when they face lefties like the Brewers will two games in a row vs the Dodgers Wednesday and Thursday. Schoop had a real nice year in 2017 for the Orioles and the oblique injury hurt his stats to start the year. On base will always be low but could be a nice addition for the rest of the year and can play 2B in 2019 until Hiura is ready.
  2. Respect... Didn't KROD have some domestic violence issues? Yes and Stearns first order of business was to ship him out of town. Jeffress also had a domestic assault arrest while with the Royals but there was no striking per Jeffress.
  3. That has pretty much been the case with the first two trades. I'm going with a long shot and say they acquire Avisaíl García for Domingo Santana, has one more year of control and fits their righty need.
  4. Probably but also may depend on when he joins the team and who pitched the night before. Wouldn't be surprised to see any of Lopez, Barnea or Williams demoted.
  5. No I would not give up Diplan's spot, it was merely showing that you can wait for a couple players to develop. (Although I personally would rather have Medeiros). Do we really need to have Orf, Dubon, Hiura, Arcia, Villar, Miller, Saladino, and Perez on the 40 man? Seems like a lot of players for a few positions especially with a lot of these players have positional versatility. Remove: Miley, Perez, Orf, Wilkerson, Ascher Add: Ortiz, Supak, Gatewood, Medeiros, Devin Williams, (Keston after Super 2 status) So no Jimmy Nelson next year? Who do you drop after calling up Hiura? Frankly, none of the names you'd want to add would factor into 2019 MLB plans, meaning the Brewers would enter next season playing with what essentially is a 34-man roster for Milwaukee (assuming Diplan isn't ready, either). That's simply not realistic, or smart. That is certainly a valid point. Diplan is pretty much the only guy on the 40 man this year that isn't expected to help at the big league level. Dubon was added to that list after getting hurt but having six guys on the 40 man with minimal to no chance at helping the big league club is quite a bit for a team that is considered a playoff contender.
  6. Tough to lose Kodi after waiting so long for him to figure it out. Will be interesting to see if the Brewers pick up the option on Soria for 2019.
  7. When and why is he getting DFA'd? He'll be on the 60 day DL at some point for the rest of the year to not take up a 40 man spot. And if the Brewers want to or think they have any chance at keeping him they will simply non-tender and then resign him in the offseason. No reason to risk waivers or rule 5. Well people are talking about the rule 5 draft, the Brewers can't just sign him to a minor league contract he has to go through the DFA process and everybody would have a shot at him.
  8. If a team really liked Suter they would just claim him after he is DFA by the Brewers. No reason to wait for the rule 5 draft and deal with the restrictions.
  9. Maybe in the off season they would look to trade Thames but they need his bat for the rest of the year.
  10. Well before the last week I’d say he was probably not as great as they look now. Still really good. A lot of people were hoping he would have a nice breakout moving to Miller Park instead of Marlins Park...then at his age a lot of people are hoping for a nice breakout that way. Now I think he has turned his stats into the best of his career...though not as much as one would have hoped with the parks he plays at now. I guess I don't understand that last part. I expected maybe a few HR bump but certainly not a 30 HR type of guy that will win MVP awards. His numbers were not as great a week ago but still above career norms. I think expectations were too high, he was still selected as an All-Star and rightfully so.
  11. Yet there are people disappointed and underwhelmed by what he has done. Not sure what people were expecting or why their standards were so high.
  12. There is no reason for Orf to be on this team so imagine he is first to go. They have gone with Broxton over Phillips before but would think one of them is gone today or tomorrow with Thames/Guerra/Peralta coming back.
  13. He didn't have 5 years when they acquired him but does now.
  14. I don't believe Miller can't be optioned as he now has 5 years of service. Miller and Perez are both likely gone next year though so don't care if they got rid of either if they acquired upgrades. I would think Saladino is safe since he can play a solid SS and only first year of arbitration in 2019.
  15. I would tend to agree, the first player drafted bt Stearns so certainly won't give him away. Didn't really hear his name with Machado.
  16. While it has not received as much play Merrifield has had his own issues with old Tweets and it would get worse if he joined the same team as Hader. Unfortunate it comes to that but don't think the Brewers can go after him right now.
  17. He is pretty much who we thought he was. He is an All Star type player but will never challenge for a batting or HR title or league MVP.
  18. With Woodruff pitching 3 innings I imagine they bring up Santana or Phillips for him and use Wilkerson as the 26th man.
  19. [sarcasm]Heck no, give up three years of control with Saladino for a rental?[/sarcasm]
  20. Still intrigued with a call up this year however certainly don't want him incurring service time and wasting a spot on the 40 man during the off season if he is injured.
  21. After seeing him actually pitch I can see why they actually signed him to be a back end starter. To me his stuff seems good and if he ever got his control in check he could have a real good season one of these years. Of course that is a big if and can also see why teams can't rely on him.
  22. Brewers will start to retract players made available for Machado if Baltimore extends the waiting period beyond the all star break.
  23. 10 day does not apply to 26th man. So Wilkerson could be optioned today and play in the doubleheader Saturday. He would have to be optioned back down after Saturday however.
  24. Lines up perfectly with the Thursday start.
  25. I think they went with Wilkerson to bring up some bullpen help after the game. Drop Wilkerson and Zagurski and bring up Houser and Lopez with QTC/Ramirez being a darkhorse callup. Also think Peralta gets the Zach Davies treatment after his next start with the ASG coming up and he is optioned with Woodruff taking his place.
