  1. They don't need a fifth starter right now but they don't have a backup catcher or anybody capable of playing CF adequately right now. Suter being optioned or Drake going away would have been my preference so there were other options.
  2. I know in this day and age the closer role isn't thought as highly by some but it sure seems like Barnes isn't comfortable in the closer role or when the game is on the line. In other situations he appear dominant.
  3. I really wish they kept Phillips around so they could have a decent CF. Could have sent Drake packing as he certainly won't be available today. Since Counsell has been hesitant to commit to Guerra after today maybe that means the return of Broxton since Phillips can't be recalled for 10 days.
  4. I think Phillips will stick around longer. Suter pitches Tuesday and there is an off day Thursday. Chances are pretty good Suter is going to AAA after his start Tuesday no matter how he performs.
  5. Probably mid season 2020 at the earliest. If forced to play the Jesus Aguilar role I think he could be effective and a nice bench bat at the end of the game. I know the Brewers have to pay him either way but still think he will be on the team all of 2018 and 2019 no matter what because of the money. If he was absolutely horrendous maybe they DFA after 2019.
  6. Not that big of deal but kind of bummed to find out the Brewers got rid of the Kids eat Free on Sunday. Get ice cream bar still.
  7. I'll agree with you there, would much rather go to a Cubs Brewers game at Wrigley than Miller Park. It seems like a completely different fan base where they are having more fun and not as nasty.
  8. Well Williams could not have been recalled instead of Hoover so he is correct. Of course any player can replace an injured player. Tom makes mistakes but this isn't one of them.
  9. Santana was not a lottery ticket, he was a major league ready player.
  10. I think you are right that Counsell may like a defined closer which would make me think it won't be Hader because Counsell really seems to like having the flexibility with Hader and using in key spots.
  11. As did Guerra, Peralta and Diplan, if you're looking at guys on the 40-man. I imagine Williams will be up for sure, and maybe Hoover as well, even though that would force a tough active roster decision. I think the roster decision would be Knebel to the 60 day DL if Hoover brought up. May have to consider sending down Suter as well to get an extra arm.
  12. He was showing signs of it last year, would expect a further decline this year.
  13. I hope he doesn't retire, he is up to AA and has a pretty decent shot at making the majors now. The Brewers have to make a decision on him to add him to the 40 man after the season as well. He grinded through the lower minors so it would be unfortunate if he quit when you can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel for him.
  14. Using the Bill James projection system Yelich has around a 12% chance of reaching 3000 hits, which equates to about a 12% chance of reaching the HOF. Not great but probably the best chance of any position player former/current not already in the HOF.
  15. This thread is about players with a shot at the HOF. That is a typical internet overeaction to something that was never said. Nobody said he was a HOFer. It may be sad for the franchise but Yelich is up there for Brewers with potential for the HOF. In his first full 4 season he is averaging 162 hits a year. If he averages that over the next 15 he has over 3000 hits and a HOF. Sure, many things can happen over the next 15 years like Braun and Fielder but the reality is there are no current Brewers with a shot at the HOF if they retired today.
  16. Well considering Cameron had zero votes in 2017 you are probably right since he can't do worse. While I don't think Braun will ever make the HOF I do think he will be one of the few Brewers that hangs around on the ballot for a number of years. Not sure if Prince can get to 5% but maybe.
  17. I don't see how as he won't get to 3,000 hits,500 home runs and isn't even a .300 hitter. There is nothing that stands out with Braun except his PED issues.
  18. I meant to put Sabathia and Greinke as the guys with the best shot, certainly no lock though.
  19. Prince Fielder doesn't really have a chance. Braun has the PED issue and overall stats are not that great so not much of a chance for him either. I would say Sabathia has the best shot, Ted Simmons, Gary Sheffield if they ever let PED guys in. That is about it. Yelich certainly has youth and potential to get there but 20 years away. I don't see K-Rod and Ramirez even getting 5% of the vote so probably gone after the first year.
  20. Just noticed now that HighHeat19 called this whole thread dumb.
  21. Which can be deemed intentional if hitters are getting beaned so yes they do as stated.
  22. Pretty much. Are umpires allowed to remove pitchers who don't have control of their fastball because they might injure a batter? I get what the ump was trying to do, but that's not his job. If the pitcher isn't warmed up, too bad. Have him lob a few balls to the batters until he's loose. Yes they are, they get ejected.
  23. I certainly don't think Santana will sit the most, he will face all lefties and I'm not counting on Braun starting 3 games in a row during a series very often anymore.
