Same here, when Logan comes back it is easy enough to send Webb back to the minors. I do have a feeling though that they go with Drake as the lefty specialist, hopefully Counsell can stick to it though and doesn't have another Drake/Bryant matchup.
I agree with Southpaw except think they go with Suter for the bullpen for the first few games and then he becomes the 5th starter on the 6th. Leaning Williams being optioned but could certainly see Williams up and Suter down after Suter's start and then they give Guerra/Miley/Woodruff the next game to start. Barnes will have a shorter leash as well since he is a bullpen guy with options
From a certain point of view it is asking would you take 50 years of bad baseball with a few good seasons sprinkled in if it means you win a World Series in year 51.
I think most would go for the year in and year out as if they are consistently in the playoffs chances are they will get lucky at least once. If they go all in for one season there is so much that can and most likely will go wrong and setting up for disappointment.
We certainly don't know if he will come back 100% this year though. Probably won't know that answer until the All Star Break or trading deadline when it may be too late. Also, I believe the back end of the rotation last year to start the season was Nelson and Anderson so yes I doubt Miley and Suter will be able to match that production.
A for sure, one championship is way better than going to the playoffs 7 times. Really after those ten years it would be brutal to think they were good enough to make the playoffs so many times without finishing the deal and the franchise celebrating those golden years the rest of my life which would be about ten times worse than the way they celebrate that 1982 team now.
So what are you doing the April 6th game? Keep on hearing 4 man rotation even from Counsell to start the year but never really see a plan for April 6th.
The rules of supply and demand might beg to differ. Nah, there are plenty of light hitting catchers with no options available. Everybody could have had Nicholas for free a couple of days ago.
The thing is Broxton is probably more valuable than Swihart, he has been more productive at the MLB level and has an option. Swihart ism't worth much of anything.
I guess I would take him over Bandy as he is only 26 and a switch hitter but has really stunk at AAA so wouldn't give up more than a Broxton/Aguilar or low level prospect.
Haudricourt clarified that initial post above shortly thereafter: To clarify that Vogt contract situation, you cannot release player merely because of injury. Has to be performance based. How that applies to player too injured to play would be interesting.
I think it makes it more difficult because they then would have five catchers on the 40 man in season if Vogt goes on the DL. Before one of Vogt/Bandy was getting removed for sure.
Sometimes career numbers don't tell the whole story though. If looking at career numbers Villar is better against lefties than Perez but I think the last couple of years is a better representation of what Perez is against lefties and I would much rather have Perez facing lefties than Villar. Villar still has a better chance of being a starter vs Perez who I think is better suited as an utility/platoon type player.
From what I can tell it appears Nicholas used an option in 2016 and 2017 so would have on left. Would consider adding him as it would be nice to have a major league catcher they can bring up/send down as many times as they want instead of using Nottingham that way. Could then still have Bandy/Vogt fight it out for the final catching spot, eventually opening up another roster spot. I believe the Brewers can now put Nelson on the 60 day DL if they need a roster spot. Of course if the Brewers sign a pitcher or Walker they could always DFA Nicholas.
Not likely, Chatwood is only getting slightly less than Cain this year. When talking total years it is more but I'm sure they have an annual budget and isn't just about future commitment.
Sling has DVR and I believe it is $5 a month. However, some events/channels don't have DVR capability. It isn't the best DVR but I use it mainly for Bucks/Brewers games so I can continue watching after putting the kids to bed.
Regarding the statement Braun is just stating the truth. He knows he will be on the team so where he plays and how often depends on what the Brewers do with Aguilar/Thames/Santana/Phillips. Until that is cleared up no reason to ruffle feathers with any of his current teammates.
