  1. Lucroy didn't look very good and I was with several players and coaches who emphatically agreed and didnt even know who he was I don't think you were watching the same game I was then. The throw to nail the base runner in the 2nd was as close to a perfect throw as was possible. I like you coach, and your program is exemplary, but your opinions on Lucroy are worthless to me because of your allegiance to Salome. Personally, I hope Salome can regain his prospect status that he lost due to his injury plagued season, because, as Hammer just stated, having 2 prospects is a rarity in Brewer catcher lore.
  2. Good, I want him to stay in the organization after this cruddy year....give it all he has the first part of this year and if the results are brutal then consider a change, just as I will consider a change in my avatar thingamabob
  3. I really am having an issue with people in this thread that are viewing Gomez as a finished product - he is exactly a year older than "phenom" Escobar. At 23 currently, and 24 for all of next season saying the guy is Juan Pierre or worse is incredibly shortsighted. The guy has been regarded as amongst the best defensive centerfielders in the game, and if you look closely at his offensive numbers in his age 22 season, it is easy to project a bump to a .270/.350/400 line. The guy has pop, he is not a slap hitter if you have watched him at all. I loved JJ Hardy as a player and think he will rebound, but the simple truth is that the Gomez/Escobar/Weeks triad will provide the most range in baseball this year. If Weeks can harness his skills this year as a second baseman, the Brewers will also have the best overall defense in the middle of the diamond this year. I want Gamel in left, McGahee at third and Braun in right with a lineup of Gomez/McGahee/Braun/Fielder/Weeks/Gamel/Escobar/LuCroy (though trading for the Colorado catcher that started in the Worlds would be my first choice). I would love to go all out for Lackey and make a reasonable offer for a second tier non-Looper and let the chips fall where they may.
  4. To this day, I thoroughly believe Stern fixed the Bucks/76ers series back during allen/Cassell/Big Dog era that sent them against the lakers.....Stern was openly losing his mind in the stands and rooting HARD for the sixers in that one
  5. Somebody said: Rick Peterson's "list" 1. Pitching Coach of the Milwaukee Brewers 2. Stay unemployed and out of baseball. Yikes, that is not even close to the truth. Yet another example of sky is falling pedagogery here. This would be an excellent hire for both the short term and long term. Peterson is by no means poorly regarded, Do some due diligence on the situation first before throwing negative tripe towards the guy.
  6. That is actually awesome...i want to see Yo Gallardo dance the Beer Barrel polka with a stogie in his mouth one day
  7. This thread has been filled with excellent discussion by the way...this site is filled with tremendous insight (brewerfan is a true 5 tool prospect), and I think only in threads like this has it recently lived up to its potential
  8. Lawrie has gotten a fair amount of flack this year from some that want a .950 OPS right off the bat. However, as a 19 year old that just got his OPS over the 800 mark - 17th in the large midwest league amonst qualifiers, I am very happy with his performance this year. His age/performance combo is really outshone only by the swarthy Jaff Decker - who looks like Mark Tauscher and has a nearly 1 OPS as a 19 year old....however, Decker is limited in his upside in my eyes due to his frame. I think that Lawrie has earned his power 50 number three ramking and could push higher in the close future....
  9. His walk rate has gotten better and is above .800 OPS in Brevard Good catch on Logan doing so well, but I wanted to briefly note that a far more interesting first name - Zelous - as that individual is also doing some good things this year with his walk rate and OPS. Zelous Wheeler - who can play all infield positions is sporting a nice FSL OPS of .768....at only 22 years of age, I have always submitted that he is a far better prospect than his power 50 showings, and his 2 all-star appearances in different A ball leagues the last 2 years have borne that out
  10. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=5927105 This is the video footage of the Mota pitch for casey and others that have not seen the footage of Fielder getting hit.....I am 100% certain Witrado was not at/watching the game when Fielder was hit....the guy is a hack of the worst order. The more Fielder is getting portrayed as the bad guy in this, the more upsetting this is to me - it's bull. Mota admitted he intentionally hit Fielder now as well according to the hacks most recent piece....
  11. Unless Witrado changed his blog post, I believe the direct quote was "Fielder just smirked and went to first base, rather calmly." That seems fairly accurate to me. HUH? That is not even close to what happened. (offset quoted material with italics --1992)
  12. A couple things I have gleaned from reading and watching local and national coverage of this: 1. Vin Scully is still the man - even bleeding Dodger blue, Scully opined "what was that?" "What are you doing that for" and was incredulous at Torre's actions (and please - let's place blame on this one at Torre and not Mota - it was obviously an order from Torre, and at least Mota hit him in a better place than the Pirates favorite target - the noggin. Torre is my villian in this one.... 2. Anthony Witrado does not watch the games....there just can be no way...I have been getting this gist for awhile now, and his description of Fielder's reaction after getting hitting - "grimacing and going down to 1st" is just not even close to what happened after watching the video.....the js needs to completely revamp its baseball staff.
  13. Russell Martin, he of the amazingly Jason Kendall-like stat line, needs to shut his trap too based upon the added input of that video....My visceral emotions would love to see him get a rib tickler today, though I know that would not be the wisest course of action The fact that the Dodgers had a pitcher warming up with 2 outs in 9th of 17-4 game just shows how galling this was, plus there are several Dodgers giving their admission of intent - unreal.....Torre should get 10 games.....I really think that because of Selig, opposing teams feel they can get away with whatever they want versus the Brewers because the commisioners office does not want to be hit with the impression of favoritism
  14. Man, i just do not understand people advocating the firing of Hammond....he has done a pretty decent job, save for a couple hiccups.....
  15. For a college player, Prince's stats at Helena were really not spectacular...this bump up is going to be very interesting...
  16. Volquez had TJ yesterday and is expected back in 2011.... huge blow to the Reds immediate future
  17. Indians got a great haul on the VMart trade.....
  18. I do not fully believe that one yet, as that is an incredible waste of resources by the Reds....that would literally be one of the most confounding trades of this decade
  19. Looking at the most current data http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance the Brewers are 8th in the league overall and 5th when figuring in stadium capacity - just 11 thousand short of 2 million at the moment and looking at 3 million as again a very realistic possibility. With this is mind, I am wondering what, if any, effect there would be for next years numbers if the Brewers were sellers/buyers, or holders. My view is that the fanbase is heavily influenced by the vibe of the team in regard to the perception of its committment to winning. I think that even the slightest inclination that the team is not doing it fullest to win will result in the Brewer fanbase to shrink back in its ticket buying levels. For this reason, I could see the Brewers being buyers in the next 48 hours, even if this does not seem to be a sound move based upon talent levels - us vs. Cards and Cubs, and the cost of the pitching and other elements it so sorely needs. My view is that the Brewers ownership does not want to steer the attendance momentum away, even for a moment, and could make a push that would cost prospects to this end. I am interested in other viewpoints as it related to the short and long term moves the club is making.
  20. My secondary point is that I think it is a good short term deal for the Cards...they needed this to keep up in the division I think. My primary thought is that I love the name Clayton Mortensen from a sports standpoint...would an equivilent football name be Buster Gammons?
  21. Considering the somewhat comical lengths some forum members will go to in order to be critical of the Brewers for their handling of prospect injuries, I wanted to highlite this mention by Seidel's dad. " I know R.J. is a pretty focused individual and a pretty tough kid - resilient. I figured he'd be out there quicker than this, but I know the Brewers like to take their time. And they did the right thing, making sure he was 100 percent."
  22. i was a big Gillespie fan, having met him and talked at some length with him in spring training a couple of years ago. However, to say that he would have been a top 5 guy in many other organizations seems outlandish to me. The guy is an older, pigeon-holed left-fielder with a moderate skill set that translates at best to a 4th outfielder role....quotes taken from the D-backs suggest this thought process from them as well, as indicate Mercedes - power 50 #50, by the way, was regarded as the bigger haul in the deal. Sometimes posts are picked apart simply because they need to be picked apart.
  23. Apparently someone trying to make a quick buck illegally put a camera in a hotel room Erin Andrews was staying, and has put the subsequent footage on thee interwebs..... Sucks that someone doing nothing but living their life had to have their privacy taken from them in this way.... http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news;_ylt=AukkiKpLikZjgPNNtIfOXJ45nYcB?slug=ap-espn-andrewsvideo&prov=ap&type=lgns
  24. Ouch, Braddock was a major trade possibility in the Halladay deal.....not anymore I would guess....
  25. I agree with Al's basic tenet here, I love the updates by battlekow, et.al, but as I usually just read these after the games are ended, would appreciate it f the updates were just edited in one or a few posts...it seems like a simple way to resolve it, and saves a lot of scrolling.
