  1. I think in some cases teams would a prefer prospects they can plug in immediately, like Jackson or Dillard, than a better prospect 2 years away. Add Cappelan to that mix, as he's just been added to the Nashville rotation, which could increase his trade value.
  2. Heyward will not make it past DM / JZ in Brewtown in favor of Moskos. Just curious, what makes you say that? The 3 players connected to the Brewers according to Allen Simpson here are Moustakas, Aumont, and Parker. I think Moskos could be someone that interests the Brewers because he one of the few college pitchers who isn't overworked, which seems to be a sticking point with the team. Is Heyward really showing he's a better hitter than Moustakas, because that doesn't seem to be the buzz, or do you think signability is the issue here?
  3. 2 hardthrowing HS pitcherswith little pitchability? They just haven't had any luck with that. Its bad enough 2 of them are injured, and just as disappointing that last years #1 isn't even playing in real games. If they want to pick a HS pitcher, they should stick with where there success is, true pitchers like Gollardo and Inman. Hopefully the Brewers will conclude Moustakas is signable. I think it gives the Brewers more leverage that if they don't sign there pick, they pick 8th next year. Moustakas is really an outstanding prospect, with awesome power. His rate of rise is outstanding, I'd rather pick a player who is showing big improvement than a guy who has kind of plateaued like Weiters. Moustakas is kind of a HS version of Ryan Braun, who used a big power performance to become my favorite for 2005.
  4. The spanking of Capellan has been administered for coming to spring out of shape and not ready to pitch. Now the secodn spanking for behaving like a spoiled 4 year old is being administered. Capellan will contribute before the season ends. Capellan didn't make the team because he had a poor 2006 and was outpitched by Aquino in spring training. It had little to do with teaching him a lesson. Now Capellan is pitching in AAA the way his major league numbers would suggest, and thats pretty pedestrian. I highly doubt he'll pitch in Milwaukee again, as he's not even 1 of the top 5 pitchers in Nashville. He is a complete disappointment, but luckily he has been passed by better prospects.
  5. Corporan is off to a great start at AA. As Briggs pointed out, he's making better contact, and that might be whats bringing out his power. He's a big, muscular guy who should have pretty good power potential. He is certainly someone to keep an eye on. He's 23 at AA, which is pretty good for a catcher, as they seem to take longer to develop.
  6. I like the idea Tigerbrew, I was thinking of the same package for Chad Cordero, but I didn't think of Putz. I'd like to get one of these deals done sooner than later. Niether jackson nor Cappellan are on the top of the depth chart at AAA, but should have good value to other teams.
  7. he is on the Braves volintary retired list. heres a link, may be subscribers only. Disappointing, as he was always regarded as not just a good player, but a great person.
  8. This opens the door for Lou palmasano to move to AAA, as he's having a terrific start to the season. Also, Rottino has been getting alot of starts behind the dish. Are they starting to think Rottino is a real catcher? That would be great.
  9. In the last link report that Jones pitched in, the local writer commented that Jones fastball was 88-91, and that his breaking ball was tight. He also said that was the best velocity he had shown thus far this season. Hopefully he adds another tick to that fastball. I wonder how hard he'd throw as a 1 inning releiver just blowing it out? Hopefully, hard enough to get to the bigs? As for now, good to keep him in the rotation working on command and throwing that curve for strikes. I wonder if he has added another option year under the new rules?
  10. Unless I missed him getting traded, injured, or called up, I definitely hope Capellan is the next guy up. He deserves it, having been the Brewers best and most used reliever last year. The fact that they kept Aquino over him should have made him mad, so I don't see why everybody is so up in arms about that. Capellans ERA was just .07 better than Aquinos, and Aquino pitched in Arizona, the 3rd toughest to pitch in park in baseball. Aquino also had a better K rate, and didn't show up to spring training fat like Capellan did. Aquino deserved a spot over Capellan, and will be back with the Brewers when he gets healthy.
  11. This must be an injury or illness, because if he was called up, it would be announced already. Hope its not serious, as last nights game clearly showed the need for Braun, when Houston pitched around batters to get to Counsel numerous times.
  12. he's dominating AAA like rickie weeks did now....i think the brewers might not be able to wait until june...its becoming clear that braun could be one of the best hitters on the team this season... Well, at least the Brewers were able to do the most important thing here, making sure they can get 6 and 5/6 seasons from Braun before free agency instead of just 6 like they would have gotten if he opened the season with the team. Braun having 4 years of arbitration isn't the worst thing ever. The increased revenue of making the playoffs would easily offset what they'd have to pay Braun as a super 2 Arby case. Now, does having Braun as a Brewer in May significantly increase the teams chances of a playoff spot? We'll have a better answer in 2 weeks.
  13. If the Yankees offered a package involving Hughes or Tabata I would at least consider it. Thats a good package for a rebuilding team, but niether of those guys wins the Brewers a playoff spot. Anyways, my question is more as possibilities. How much can a legit ace bring in trade at the deadline? Who was the last true Ace dealt at the deadline? Do we go all the way back to when Schilling was dealt from Philly to Arizona?
  14. I am willing to leave this be as a difference in opinion between someone who is in the game, and someone who enjoys it. Can I ask, do you have any success in the game? Your posts have been sloppy and filled with mis-used information, those aren't usually qualities that lead to success. Your baseball views are kind of 1970ish, no offense. and not in line with what statistics suggest is true. I think it would add something to your viewpoint if we knew more of your backround.
  15. Capallan should be moved to TB for some of thier young Players Cappellan for Cantu would be very logical. Similar age and career production, both not needed by there present teams but would fill needs for there new team. Cantu as a 3B is similar to Graffino, but with some breakout potential. Theres no chance Graff becomes more than he is.
  16. Cameron Maybin is listed as the top candidate for Minor League Player of the year, with niether Gallardo or Braun being mentioned. The winner of this award generally goes on to be a pretty decent major leaguer. Braun and Gallardo aren't mentioned because they are expected to spend to much time in the Bigs to warrant a minor league award. Both will likely be better than pretty decent major leaguers before Maybin gets his 1st MLB at-bat.
  17. Um.......why are we even talking about Todd Walker? If my memory serves me right, we still have Graffy and Counsell. Because Counsel doesn't hit anywhere near as well as Walker, and Graffy doesn't hit righties as well as Walker. We'll face righty starters in 2/3s of the games, and Walker would be the best available bat to start those games.
  18. To put this in perspective, last year the Brewers traded there best hitter to get a closer, despite the fact that they would have gotten a 1st round pick and a sandwich pick as compensation had they held on to him for the remainder of the season. So yes, I'd consider a college closer. Obviously this only works if the closer turns out like Street or Cordero, but thats the case with any pick. Hansen, Wagner, and Aardsma (arrived in bigs the year he was drafted, now on 3rd team) are all disappointing, but all 3 still have a chance at success. I'd flip Mike Jones for any of those 3 right now. As GagneCY03 mentions, there are tons of guys out there with closer stuff. What you get when you draft a college closer is a guy who has also demonstrated the mental toughness to close.
  19. Two points about Braun versus Maybin: 1. Maybin signed for a bigger contract than Braun despite being a lower selection. If you prefer Maybin, then you should probably list the Brewer selections than year you'd throw away to get within the teams budgett. 2. Why is Maybin given the edge defensively because he plays CF? Maybins speed is good, but not great. Some suggest Braun is actually faster, and he would likely be a CF if he was switched to the OF. Its very possible Maybin loses speed and outgrows CF as he matures. He doesn't have the arm for RF, so doesn't he lose some luster as a possible LF?
  20. Count me in for Walker. He is only slightly less than what we'd expect from Koskie.
  21. What about the gent who was too good to be included in any deal for Sexson? A certain character named Gregory Miller? Miller's injuries have lead to shoulder surgury, and reduced him to a reliever. He has dropped his arm slot to avoid further stress on his shoulder, and he's lost velocity. As far as relievers go, I'd rather get the guy Tigerbrew mentioned, Kuo. He really has an outstanding arm, and has shown flashes at the big league level.
  22. Clark For Mackowiak is almost too logical. The Sox aquired Mackowiak to give them depth at 3rd when Crede was still fighting back problems. Since then, Crede conquered his back problems, Josh Fields has become MLB ready 3B, and the ulta-versatile Pablo Ozuna developed into a legitimate hitter.
  23. TSN reported, for what its worth, that the A's turned down an offer of Rios for Blanton. I'd have a hard time believing Blanton is worth more than Capuano, considering Blantons weight issues. If that really happened, I think the A's really missed out on a great deal for them.
  24. The thing that gives me hope about Brauns defense is that a huge majority of his errors are throwing errors. He has no problems fielding the ball, he has soft hands. Its pretty common for SS turned 3B to struggle with throwing, because they have to position themselves different for throws from 3B. While many do adjust to it in time, a few don't. I've often wondered if Brauns best position would be 2B? He has the hands for it, and it would likely reduce the throwing errors. He's big for a 2B, but no bigger than Chase Utley. He's every bit as athletic as Utley.
  25. The Orioles signed Jay Payton to play LF. TSN had a blurb that the Orioles are still in the market for 1 more power hitter after the signing of Payton. I'd give the link, but I read it in the print version.
