  1. It's going to be strange to actually have some offense in Huntsville. And I think that pitching staff could surprise.
  2. I can understand and respect Crean's decision to leave, but the way he handled it stinks. So he goes and calls Travis Deiner to tell him the news, but he lets his current players and coaches find out from the media. Just lets everyone get blindsided. What a jerk. Also, it appears the Mbakwe was planning on transfering due to family issues, even before the Crean situation.
  3. Not just since he left, but in all of the non-Wade years. He only had 3 NCAA appearances in 7 years without Wade (1-3). There's no question he left the program in a better state than when he came, but the NCAA results have not been there.
  4. Maybe he just felt that he took Marquette as far as he could and it was time to move on. He'll always have the stigma that he couldn't win without Dwyane Wade. And 9 years is a long time for coaching. Only 2 coaches were at MU longer.
  5. One of the game reports indicated that he was having trouble with his footing, with mud in his cleats.
  6. It's interesting that the best road record in the Yost/Melvin era was the first year. Home wins have gone up every year (last year was the team's 5th best home record of all time), but road wins have been up and down. 82 had the best road record (47-34). But road wins have been hard to come by. Even 1992 had a losing road record (39-42) Road record: 2003 - 37-44 2004 - 31-49 2005 - 35-46 2006 - 27-54 2007 - 32-49 I'll take the under on 40 wins. Edit: But we should do much better this year since we don't have Cordero's 6.55 road ERA and 6 blown saves, right? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. I love the Sheets quote. I recall Mota shaking off a few signs. I'd imagine it will take a bit longer for Kendall to get in tune with the relievers, since he didn't catch them much in spring training.
  8. Time for some pitchers to step up this year. The top of the last Power 50 was largely void of pitchers. Parra could graduate as soon as next month. Jeffress, Braddock, and Rogers may not be pitching right away. That leaves Hinton, Jackson, and Seidel as the only pitchers in the top 25.
  9. From Haudricourt's blog. No word on a corresponding move. http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2008/03/31/brewers-claim-pitcher-for-nashville.aspx
  10. How could I forget that one, especially since my name is Mike? But the regular Life is nasty.
  11. I love cereal and I still like some kids cereal. We usually have over a dozen boxes open at one time. It's funny that I love chocolate, but I'm not a big fan of chocolate cereals. I got sick of Lucky Charms and Peanut Butter Capn Crunch because my mom bought them all the time as a kid (only "good" cereals she would get.) Does anyone eat Grape Nuts? I can only stand it warm, when it gets soft. Otherwise, it's like gravel. Some of my favorites: Caramel Nut Crunch - All-time favorite, but it's pricey and you don't get a lot. Cracklin Oat Bran - ditto Raisin Bran Crunch Frosted mini Wheats - Mainly original, but also like Vanilla. Not a big fan of others like Strawberry or Maple Brown Sugar Cinnamon Toast Crunch Honey Nut Chex Raisin Nut Bran Basic 4 My 3.5 year old's favorites (go figure): Rice Krispies plain hot oatmeal
  12. If you break down the drafts, it's actually: 2 Bando (Hall, Sheets) - People forget that Hall has been in the organization longer than Sheets. 4 Taylor/Jack Z (Hart, Hardy, Parra, Fielder) 4 Melvin/Jack Z (Weeks, Gwynn, Gallardo, Braun) So Melvin inherited a quarter of the roster.
  13. From McCalvy. So 13,000 for tomorrow. It's going to be close.
  14. Marquette outdrew the Bucks this year for the first time. Who's the number one tenant at the Bradley Center?
  15. Because of the day off between Sheets opening day start and Suppan's start. Ned wants to keep them on a 5 day schedule, as much as possible. Suppan Friday. Bush Sat. Maybe Villaneuva on Sat as well. Not sure about Parra, since he doesn't pitch until April 6th.
  16. Could Narveson be the starter today? I'm guessing it won't be one of the 5 starters, since it lines up with the off day.
  17. And why are they a manager instead of a coach?
  18. Here's a timely article about Riske thriving as a one-pitch pitcher. http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=732591
  19. Well, I see it both ways. It's a fun game to play, but it has to be the most boring game to watch.
  20. Dependability has to count for something. Suppan has thrown 30+ games at close to 200 innings for 9 straight years. Bush has done that 4 years in a row. They'll keep you in the majority of games and won't kill your bullpen. Vargas has never pitched more than 168 innings (2006).
  21. Probably not. Yost mentioned skipping Parra at times, but I don't think the others will get skipped. So Sheets probably won't be pitching every 5 days, with the days off. It could be Bush on the 15th if they keep the top 4 lined up, with Parra filling the gaps. If Gallardo gets 3 more starts in the minors, the last one would fall on the 11th. So he could be ready to go on the 16th or so.
  22. There's a big thread on this in the Minor League forum http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=8727
  23. He's only around until they're certain JJ is ready to go. Sounds like JJ should start tommorrow, so Escobar probably gets optioned then.
  24. I saw another interesting fact. Jack Z drafted all of the position starters, except Hall. He drafted Kendall in Pittsburgh.
  25. So the Brewers are now paying $5.65 million for 3 guys not playing for them (Jenkins, Capuano, Vargas).
