  1. I don't remember when it was, but I remember getting killed by Boston years ago and catcher Rick Dempsey came in to pitch. Actually did better than some of the pitchers. Edit: It was 1991. Apparently, he pitched 2 times that year, according to baseball-reference. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/MIL/MIL199107020.shtml
  2. Don't like to hear that term again, but it sounds mild. It also could explain why he failed the drug tests, taking a supplment from GNC. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080312&content_id=2422199&vkey=spt2008news&fext=.jsp&c_id=mil
  3. Haudricourt reported that Braun was a late scratch due to a sore achilles.
  4. kgbaseball mentioned a Orton Rodriguez signing in Dec. I guess I assumed he was a 6 year free agent, but maybe he's a Latin America signing? Edit: Baseball America note http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=673

  6. They also have minor league free agents Munhall and Rodriguez. Then there's the organizational soldiers like Hopf and Corredor. Nothing too exciting, though.
  7. Ned did say a few days ago, that he wouldn't have a problem starting his backup catcher at 1B because he could get moved to catcher if something happened to Kendall.
  8. I thought Yost mentioned that defense will be the main thing they are looking at from the backup catchers. There was a quote by Yost about how well Rottino is doing behind the plate. Rivera's never been known for his defense, not sure about Munson. Also, Yost said that the backup catcher may end up being the backup 1B. Rottino may have a slight edge, if Dillion doesn't make the team.
  9. He's the only guy left from Jack Z's first draft and that was the first draft class I really watched from the very beginning. It's been fun watching him develop.
  10. If the current rotation holds, Villaneuva and Capuano should be pitching on the 12th.
  11. There was a quote by Yost saying that Gwynn and Kappler are good defenders, but Gross is still a work in progress, defensively. So that would seem to give the edge to a Gwynn/Kapler platoon, if defense is the deciding factor.
  12. I think Hart is going to stay in RF. Kapler starts in CF against lefties, Gross and Gwynn split time against righties.
  13. Really? I'd say it's more 50/50 between AZ and FL. I'd much rather go to Florida than Arizona.
  14. Some article mentioned that Yost is seriously considering a 13 man pitching staff, since the starting position players will be playing so many games (few games for the bench). Could that mean Villy or Parra getting a spot over Dillion?
  15. So far in spring training, the defense seems pretty good, outside of Weeks and the bench players. And with a quicker outfield being able to play in more, how many hits will that take away?
  16. Haudricourt had a comment about Yost wanting to give everyone a chance to start. So it would appear that Capuano and Villaneuva are piggy-backing and Parra/Bush. I hope the current rotation doesn't hold because here is how the starters line up as of today, going on 4 days rest: 3/31 - Sheets 4/1 - Off (Villanueva/Capuano's turn) 4/2 - Suppan 4/3 - Vargas 4/4 - Bush 4/5 - Sheets 4/6 - 5th starter
  17. Guess we won't have to worry about that until the 4th inning.
  18. James is currently 6th on Marquette's all-time assist list. In another year, he could finish ahead of Deiner for 2nd on the all-time list, though Deiner was only a 3 year starter. But James assist numbers have declined every year. McNeal is only 13 assists behind James this year. James is great when he can drive the lane and then get a layup or an assist. But when teams pack the middle, he can't do anything.
  19. Beer. Blech.
  20. You're absolutely right. I know he's a talented player, but I can't stand him. I'm an MU alum and I love MU basketball, but I've barely watched them over the past 3 seasons because of James.
  21. I think you're right. It will be tough as an MU fan to have to sit through another year of watching James.
  22. Bluegrass music
  23. Will Farrell. He's not funny. The Eagles were much better in their original lineup, pre-Walsh, when they were country rock.
  24. The Brewers have consistently been near the top of the league in what they pay 0-3 year players. Teams in the past have complained because the Brewers paid more than most.
