  1. I hate to even bring this up, but because this deal will cost the Brewers $1 million+, could this be a sign that Corey Hart's playing time will get cut back a little? Cameron and Braun have been great, Corey... well, he hasn't been. Last year they docked Weeks when he wasn't hitting up to par, could the same happen to Corey?
  2. No. Jody Reed played for the Brewers in 1994.
  3. Who leaves? Hernan? Duffy? Kind of funny that Nelson and Gwynn got shipped out within a week of each other. I guess Melvin wanted to give the message boards some closure.
  4. This seems premature. There have been many guys who have turned down deals when they have no trade clauses, including a Padre last season (Brian Giles, apparently San Diego is a nice place to live). I hope it happens, I enjoy trades, but I'm not sure it will.
  5. That was a great interview. I miss Brooks.
  6. I feel like they should leave Alcides at SS. I don't like this idea at all. 2nd appears to be covered by the 4 guys they have now that can play there, or they could sign a vet. No need to start moving top prospects around at this point.
  7. I don't think the Brewers regret losing Nelson. Wouldn't he have rather signed with the Brewers to re-take a spot on the 25 man if they were offering it instead of signing a minor league deal with Seattle where he'll be 5th or so on the AAA 1st base depth chart? If the Brewers regretted losing him, they could have just re-signed him. Similarly, if anybody thought he was a good bet to be a "decent" LH bat, wouldn't someone have claimed him on waivers? Or maybe offered him a major league spot? losing Nelson isn't like losing a $20 bill. It's more like throwing out an old washing machine. Can it be salvaged? Maybe. Will anybody lose sleep over the fact that someone else is getting some use out of their unwanted old washer? Doubtful.
  8. I think a platoon can make some amount of sense. Hernan is a lefty so he can't platoon with Counsell. I agree that Gamel every day would probably be preferable but if they want to still give Bill playing time at 3rd to lessen the impact of Gamel's defense, using McGehee some at 2nd does seem like the way to go rather than playing Counsell full time.
  9. I think that the roll and pose last night was a little bit showboaty, but I enjoy that kind of thing. I hope he keeps doing it and I hope other teams keep getting upset about it. It would be nice to be the team everybody hates instead of being the fanbase known for impotently hating the Cubs.
  10. Apparently Nelson signed a minor league deal with Seattle. I'm not sure that's the best fit for him given Tacoma's plethora of 1B types, but good luck Brad! link: http://ussmariner.com/200.../19/ms-sign-brad-nelson/ edit: I see that this is being discussed in the Gamel/Nelson thread.
  11. I'm pretty sure that there is no minimum amount of days that a player must spend in the majors. Remember a few years ago when Chris Saenz was called up for just one game? Some teams do that kind of thing pretty routinely, bring a guy up from the minors to start 1 game and then immediately option him back down and call up a reliever.
  12. I hadn't considered that. I hope they look into it if Rickie's injury is serious. I think Iribarren getting the call if Rickie is DL'd makes the most sense for now. Also, I'd prefer to have Gamel rather than Counsell being the guy getting AB's against lefties, so I hope they move the whole Counsell/Hall platoon to 2nd.
  13. Milwaukee on the road jerseys would be great. I've long thought MLB and NBA teams should go back to that.
  14. But surely he knows that too. He's not likely (imo) to take a (say) 3 year, $20 million deal when he knows he'll get $7-12 million next year and then be a free agent. Also, he's already 29, buying out 3 years takes him through his age 32 season, meaning he's probably not likely to get another big contract after that. I think he'd really want a 3 year contract to be for big money (otherwise he'd probably want a longer deal), which means I'd rather just wait to make sure he stays healthy.
  15. I'd usually prefer to sign a pitcher in the offseason just because that means less time for him to hurt himself. There's no real point to signing him now, I don't think, unless you think he'll break out between now and the end of the season. I'd rather wait to make sure he doesn't get hurt this season before trying to sign him to a multi-year deal. Also, the price would be very important.
  16. According to a post on bcb, Cutter Dykstra's been demoted to Helena and Taylor Green is being activated for the Timber Rattlers. edit: here's the link for the large amount of roster moves Mass speculated about (turned out to be 6). Green, Almonte and Bowman to Wisconsin. Dykstra, Dabrowiecki, and Sherrill to Helena.
  17. But Sweeney is a righty. That means he can platoon with Griffey at DH, which he's been doing this season so far.
  18. That's cool. I'm not interested but I just wanted to post to say that this is very nice of you, logan.
  19. I wonder if Seattle is interested in Nelson. I would think they would be because of the Zduriencik connection but Brad would face the same problem there that he has in Milwaukee: lefty hitting first baseman and no playing time available in the OF/DH. The Mariners offense is atrocious but their corner and DH spots are filled with guys they like (Ichiro, Chavez/Balentien) or who can't conceivably be cut yet (Ken Griffey). Plus, one of their top prospects is a first baseman (Carp) and they have two backup DH/1B types in Mike Sweeney and Chris Shelton (Shelton's at Tacoma). The Mets situation seems good for Nelson if Delgado has to go on the DL. He might be able to get two weeks of pretty much uninterrupted playing time if the Mets are interested in giving him a shot.
  20. Sid Vicious. He's usually the answer to these types of questions (least talented, worst musician, worst singer, etc.).
  21. What marginal prospects have been screwed by the Brewers? I don't agree with that viewpoint at all.
  22. #2 wasn't really too good either, imo. Everything just seemed a little off. Anyway, between this and "Moneyball", there are a couple inexplicable baseball movies coming out.
  23. Yes, the fans should not have booed Looper yesterday. I know I've defended booing in the (recent) past but that took it to a ridiculous extreme. Anyway, I've never felt like Brad was a real option at the major league level but now I find myself feeling bad about him being cut. I guess it's because we've followed him and cheered for him all these years. My wife got his autograph at an Iowa Cubs game, I think 4 years ago. He seemed nice. I hope he catches on with another team and does well. Good luck Brad.
