  1. Guessing the walk probability in a 3-1 count exceeded the likelihood of a hit. Caught my eye as well.
  2. Players weekend jerseys died for this. I like the grill...but that's about it.
  3. How have we not used this thread in 5 years? Season 4 came out on Friday, so I felt obligated to binge-watch over the long weekend to avoid spoiler things....and I'm really glad that I did. I've seen a number of people complain about the episode lengths, but while not every storyline has equal importance, even the less-important parts don't feel like a drag. (Which is a significant improvement over, say, the Erica arc in Season 3.) Netflix held the final 2 episodes of the season until July 1st....albeit the last episode is reported to be over two hours long.
  4. Welcome back Keston! Nice to take 2 of 3 with Adames on the mend.
  5. Assuming the schedule leaks are true, no bye week after the London game is a bit surprising (insert joke about playing the Jets being like a bye). Finishing with 3 of 4 at home is always nice.
  6. They’re watching Sam Raimi movies, as there are directorial flourishes to how certain characters….end their fight scenes….which would not be out of place in the Evil Dead trilogy. The film is not gore-y, but it’s not like any of the other MCU films in that respect. As to the post-Thanos part of things - GETTING MORE SPOILERY HERE - the only part that’s really related to the snap is Wanda’s story. The Doctor’s romantic arc is certainly affected by his having been dusted for 5 years, but there’s a multiverse full of evidence as to how things work out between them. I’m exceedingly curious as to which direction the films go after this one, particularly the interplay between this movie & the Loki Disney+ series.
  7. Really liking this draft! Get a safety & some special teams core guys yet today and figure out if they need another veteran WR.
  8. I said GB needed to get in front of the Saints for Olave. Curious to see who the Lions traded up for.
  9. Colorado (Bakh) Oregon (Hanson) Mississippi State (Jenkins) Ohio State (Myers) Mississippi (Newman) Virginia Tech (Nijman - UFA) Michigan (Runyan) Wisconsin (Van Lanen) Just looking back year-by-year on ESPN, the last time the Packers drafted an O-Lineman from outside of the power conferences was Kofi Amichia in the 6th round...way back in 2017. He and J.C. Tretter (Cornell) in 2013 are the only non-BCS OL guys the Packers have drafted in the past decade. At least part of the profile has to be acknowledging where the guy played, and the Packers don't often roll the dice on guys facing lesser competition.
  10. Finally saw it tonight; I enjoyed it more than any of the Best Picture nominees from last year (that I got to watch…sorry CODA). It uses content and ideas from pop culture, and repurposes them to tell a remarkably relatable story. ….and I hate to admit I didn’t recognize the auditor until the closing credits.
  11. Personally, that's a no for me, since I don't think the Packers need to move up that far to get one of the better WR prospects in the draft. Olave is the guy I see as the safest, "take the cover off the defense" WR threat; someone with MVS speed, but enough versatility in the other routes to be an every-down player. I don't think you need to get into the Top 10 to get him; my gut says you just need to get past New Orleans at 16 to get him (if you need to move at all...I think you do, but there are Mock-writers who keep him on the board until 22). Looking at the value chart, 22 & 53 would be enough compensation to move up to 13 (HOU) or 14 (BAL). ...and yes, that's pretty much trading Adams for Olave straight-up...but it's what we're left with. As things stand, if the Packers do nothing, they would have the option of a receiver like Burks or Dotson in the 20s, plus the ability to double-dip at WR with a 2nd round pick (plus the ability to address other needs at 28). The question is whether they're better off with 2 good potential receivers or one really good prospect. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if they moved up from 22, and then moved down from 28 to restock draft picks.
  12. Productivity (not to mention number of targets?) has fallen off for Watkins over the past 2 seasons, but he's at least a veteran option who, along with Cobb, can provide a veteran presence while the rookies get up-to-speed. While he only had 27 catches last season, he took one of them for 49 yards, so there's still some speed there. Knowing they were going to bring someone in, hard to be too disappointed with a "re-prove it" year for Watkins. EDIT: Acme Packing Co. story notes Watkins played for LaFleur with the Rams in 2017.
  13. That’s the type of contact you hope to see from Yeli.
  14. Not a surprise, but Johnny Davis is officially declaring for the NBA Draft.
  15. Easily my best results from the simulator- would be thrilled if the Packers pulled off something similar.
  16. I feel similarly about Nightmare Alley. The film started slow for me, but the ending justified a lot of that world building. No spoilers, but that ending stuck with me…a lot more than the other best picture nominees I’ve seen. Speaking of which, I’ve now seen 5 1/2 of the nominated films (West Side Story is a bit much to get through in one sitting….which I say acknowledging my enjoyment of the musical that just missed the cut). Disappointed I didn’t see more, but life got in the way. Never actually posted about Licorice Pizza, but I appreciated it for being light & fun. Didn’t know all 3 of the Haim sisters were going to be in it. (At my theater, they played the band’s new video - also directed by Paul T. Anderson - before the film.)
  17. Having paged through the thread since the trade, the name I haven’t seen discussed is Robert Tonyan. He’s a free agent, coming off a torn ACL, but is a guy who has Rodgers’ trust, at a position which isn’t an easy upgrade in this year’s draft. I would be excited to see a guy with DK Metcalf’s top end speed catching bombs from #12. Regardless of who the Packers get to replace Adams, they need to upgrade the speed of the receiver room.
  18. Friday night tickets @Fiserv are crazy expensive right now. Anyone have experience on the secondary market for events like this? I have a room booked for Thursday & Friday night at a hotel with a shuttle running to the forum….but it’s looking like I’ll pay more for my ticket than the room.
  19. 1) Grew up between Central Wisconsin & Green Bay. Lived in Madison (College), and spent a few years in SE Wisconsin before settling back in the Greater Mosinee area. 2) Age = early 40s 3) Joined BrewerFan shortly after it started, having migrated from Fastball.com's Brewers forum. 4) Quit playing organized baseball before high school. 5) Kolten Wong may well be my favorite current Brewer, and as someone who used to be a catcher, B.J. Surhoff is probably one of my favorite underappreciated Brewers players from back in the day. 6) @kenpomeroy / @BarryistheDon / @TheAVClub 7) I'm a club curler, who also enjoys gaming, movies / TV, alt-rock music, plus Packers & Badgers sports. 8 ) The community here is the reason I keep coming back. Reasoned and thoughful, rather than the "hot take" crowd you sometimes see for sports discussion.
  20. Seems to work.
  21. I enjoy watching, but I'll echo stoutdude04's thoughts on catching the show in reruns. Back when I was TiVo'ing the show, it was really inconsistent about recording full blocks of programming...meaning the "main event" match they would promote throughout usually got cut off. So far as I could tell, recent seasons seem all about a wedge-shaped bot with a high-power vertical spinner. I like the hammer/saw combo design, but the combination doesn't seem durable enough to win.
  22. Regardless of whether the Badgers get the 2/3 seed I think they should have, I would be highly disappointed if they're not playing in Milwaukee next week.
  23. The rumor of Joe Buck going to ESPN for Monday Night Football - and thus only being subjected to him once a week, at most - is simply too good to be true. It will also make me an even bigger fan of the Manning-cast on ESPN 2.
  24. It's also not helped by a broadcaster that used to devote three or more full-time networks to covering the games (the "Olympics Triplecast" of decades ago), scaling back to one full-time channel (USA), with one more during prime time and late night (NBC), as part of a strategy to steer traffic to its new streaming platform. NBC Sports Network folded at the start of the year, niche sports do not seem to be airing on CNBC like they have in prior games, and NBC has an "Olympic Channel" that is only airing highlights rather than actual competitive events. Aside from Curling, I'll probably end up sticking to NBC proper, since I anticipate the prime-time coverage will have the anticipated *stars* of the games. I'm not paying for Peacock just to watch things which would have been on cable in prior years.
  25. Finished my self-imposed homework last night, with "Don't Look Up." I will stick by the rules of this site with respect to politics, and simply say that the connection between the Trump-ian President and the Steve Jobs-inspired donor muddles any satirical message the film tries to convey. (Also, I guess Big Tech doesn't follow the science, or at least not a peer review? Kinda loses the thread in the back third.) The film also disturbingly American-ego-centric, since apparently the U.S. is the only entity able to identify a comet, and the International attempt to deal with the comet fails because...reasons. Having not seen a single thing I could describe as enjoyable, I'll give this my best Gene Shalit, and simply say Don't Look It Up. I had watched "The Lost Daughter" a few days prior. I think Olivia Coleman is a tremendous actress, would recommend "Broadchurch" to any fan of TV Drama, and thought her prior Oscar nominations were well-deserved. I just found her character impossible to relate to; if the backstory that slowly comes out about the character is supposed to make her sympathetic, it failed. Likewise, her motivations in concealing a key piece of information from Dakota Johnson's character for most of the film didn't make sense, and didn't have any meaningful resolution. Ed Harris' character was interesting to me, but I just didn't feel like I "got" this film. Nothing about "Tick Tick ...Boom" should work for me, as someone who self-describes as not a Broadway-musical type. That said, it was the only one of the films out of the three that I could actually enjoy. Andrew Garfield's character actually felt like a real person (which shouldn't be surprising, considering the nature of the adaptation), as did the supporting characters. I'm sure musical theater fans have plenty of nits to pick, but if I were asked to recommend any of these three films, this would be my choice. Having gotten all the Netflix out, I might try to see some of the Amazon film(s) before next week's nominations.
