  1. I knew we have an option on Cameron for $10mil, but I was speaking of the year after, when he would be coming "hopefully" off of a good season. Honestly, I don't know if spending $10mil on Cameron would be the best use of the funds, but considering the lack of options behind him, I would be down with it. The question ultimately becomes, would you offer him arbitration the following year, when he would be old but could probably still entice some club into offering him a contract, substantially lower than his $10mil salary would be next year (and hence, the reluctance to offer arby AFTER next year). Sorry for my ambiguity.
  2. The Battle of Suppan-Sanchez, won by the good guys. Go Brewz!
  3. Rube Baker and Jake Taylor, hanging out on the bench... sign me up.
  4. The line that stood out to me was- "Reyes also is prone to making youthful mistakes in the field, though part of that stems from his exuberance." Let's hope the similarities continue (sans the defensive "deficiencies")
  5. C-Kendall 1B-The Regal One 2B-Weeks SS-Escobar (if we can trade a package revolving around Hardy for Cain/Greinke) 3B-Hall/Branyan platoon LF-Braun CF-Cameron RF-Hart The question becomes, is Cameron worth his salary? His defense has been a revelation, and if he continues to produce, he may elicit some picks, though we would also run the risk of him accepting and having to pay him a comparable salary to his $10mil.
  6. Honestly, if you look at what the ScRubs put out this year for a rotation to begin the year, it could be very comparable to our rotation next year. Carlos Z.-Yo! Both are ace-quality pitchers. Lilly-Soup Quality-Innings-Eaters. Hill-Parra Young stud lefties. I would hope Parra won't suffer the sophomore jinx (though Hill has had control questions throughout the minors while Parra's pimple was always health) Dumpster-McClung Relievers-turned-starters, though McClung would seem to have a more recent track record (though the Dumpster has obviously proven himself, thus far) Marquis-Bush Frustratingly inconsistent, though give me the Bush every time. And then you also have the ability to trade from our treasure chest of prospects for an ace, a la Harden. Our window is not shut after this year.
  7. I know this already has its own thread but when are the umps going to begin being fair with Gagne? Xenophobia is NOT cool! He has a strike zone the size of a pea, and if he tries to slightly brush the best hitter on the opposing team, he's accused of throwing at him. I was seriously waiting for the ump to toss the entire battery, along with Yost. If these types of calls persist to the end of the season and through the postseason...well I won't be happy.
  8. 2009 NL Cy Young Winner....Rich Harden.
  9. Considering what the 'Stros and Rockies have done to get to the postseason, not even mentioning why the Phils found themselves in the playoffs last year, it would seem no lead is safe in baseball.
  10. 'Tis but a flesh wound." Utter collapse averted.
  11. I guess the teachings of Obi-Won can only get you so far before you have to seek out the true Jedi master, Yoda.
  12. I think he was just saying that IF the ScRubs had traded their farm for Oakland's prior ace instead of their latter ace, they would stack up well against the Brewers. But seriously, this series hurt. It could have easily been a sweep either way, but we still came out with the short end of the stick. It would be a lot easier to make a scapegoat if the losing pitcher wasn't my favorite reliever.
  13. He absolutely smoked that double to begin the game. I seriously hope to see him in the lineup in the very near future because without him, our 2-headed 2-bagger becomes Dunsell...which somehow sounds BETTER than what it actually is.
  14. The third best player on his own team wins the MVP... Good choice voters (that applies more to Morneu than Rollins, who would be my fifth choice on the Phils behind Utley/Howard/Burrell/Hamels).
  15. Especially when all the Dodgy Fellows do is hit HR's to beat your team at their own game. And against Villy, who WAS lights out as a reliever before he entered Chavez. I don't even know what hit me. I was sitting there, imagining how we were going to beat up on Hong and the next thing I know... Well at least we get the "contending" 'stros coming into Miller. Honestly, I just hope Rickie is ok, because you know that if he's not, there's going to be a lot more Weak CC action at 2B.
  16. Well as I always answered when people asked me what I wanted in a catcher (drunk bar patrons, when I criticized Estrada), "I like a catcher who bats cleanup and DH's on his days off." I always thought there could be but one man to fill that definition, but now, it would seem we have three. But with Salome, you have to keep hoping he just gets it. Geovany Soto was at AAA for three yeatrs before he got finally broke through his barrier and I have no doubt that Angel is better at the plate than the would be ROY or, according to some Wrigleyvillers, the NL MVP. Also, what would be the difference between Dunn's defense and Angel's defense in a corner outfield slot? I don't want to give up on him behind the dish for another three to four years, but if the cards didn't fall altogether in line with the expectations, wouldn't he be just as passable as the Dunn Monument or the Manuelito statue in left?
  17. Petco is to relievers, what Jeff Tedford is to college quarterbacks. Can you imagine if Trevor Hoffman and his straight change was being launched semi-daily at Coors or Arlington? Even Citizens Bank would have probably ended his career. Seriously, they must use some weird smoke machine and mirror system there when they introduce the reliever. Heath Bell, Mets retread or the most valuable set-up guy in the NL?
  18. Perhaps his Howitzer could use a decent missile guidance system, hence the comment that he needs to get "on the radar"? Seriously, if his defense becomes passable, he could become the answer to who takes Prince's position in the lineup when he inevitably leaves for greener pastures of Mota money (ie. money not well spent).
  19. Fuentes is probably going to be a Type A FA... Using a waiver claim on a player that will cost you less than a million $ the rest of the year to guarantee two good draft picks... He won't make it to the waiver wire, and if he does, there is absolutely no way he makes it to the Cards.
  20. When Yu Darvish is posted, his fee will likely surpass Daisuke's $51.1mil fee, so I'm thinking it would have to begin with Prince Fielder for them to give a thought about a straight-up trade. (And I still say NO to trading the Regal One)
  21. Can we add Matt Wise here as well? I was a big Wise supporter, with the Bugs Bunny changeup that made hitters look like my 2 year old nephew at the plate. But honestly, the 'stache sent him away and it has looked very...wise. I will never forget the day when we were up 5 to the Phils going to the ninth. Walk...HR. No recorded out by the Wiser. Send in our exalted closer... At least we made it to extras...where Pat the Bat sent me home scorned with an L. The Scarlet Letter than cursed our season last year. Good Riddence, and I hope you had the time of your lives here, boys.
  22. I would have rather traded for Joe Nathan (as we were rumored to be doing this past offseason) than sign K-Rod to a monster deal, but also remember that the deal for BJ Ryan was considered ludicrous....for about a year or two. Then the Brewers were offering a similar deal to Coco because the bar has been set. The word I'm hearing right now is $15mil, which is a great deal of money, but at least then you have no doubts about the last inning. The reason the Brews are considered the front runner in the hypthetical race is because it has been 25 years since the Brews have had a sweatless ninth (I was probably in the minority in not believing Coco was a truly ELITE closer, in the Rivera/Nathan/K-Rod/Saito mold). But all of that said, give the money to a starter, be it Sheets or Sabathia. Honestly, I think this offseason is going to see K-Rod signed by Arte (unless he breaks the bank for his switch-hitting HOF) and the Brews reupping with Sheets as Sabathia signs with the Dodgy Fellows. Then again, the Dodgy Fellows could end up signing Tex and the Angels could end up with Sabathia as K-Rod is signed by Boston (putting the lowest ERA in the modern era into their rotation). But instead of speculating on this offseason, I prefer to speculate on this postseason, as in, "Brewz over Angels in 6 as K-Rod blows back-to-back saves."
  23. If Prince viewed Parra's swinging of the coat as an attack on himself, then he was well within his rights to defend himself.
  24. Much like Yankees, there's always some fan willing to overpay for their favorite homer, so picking a DLee or an ARam isn't a bad bet, if you can quickly flip him for something worthwhile, like a bag of balls or a goat.
  25. I have no problem with Counsell seeing time at 3B, just NEVER starting. He is, at best, a late defensive replacement at the hot corner. Hall's defense has improved and the Shaded One needs to be seeing a righty or two a week.
