  1. Just that his FIP last year was 4.68, and he declined a little bit from 2005, and that he'd be a year older with a bad defense behind him, and he's just generally a marginal pitcher.
  2. I don't think a pitching acquisition should or shouldn't be made based on the defensive capabilities of an extremely young infield. I don't think so, either, that wasn't what I was saying. When a pitcher is bad enough that poor defense can lead to him having a 5.00 ERA, he isn't worth $10 million a year. Bad defense played a sizable part in Davis' 4.91 ERA last year.
  3. Prince had a .992 fielding percentage last year. As a rookie he made 11 errors the whole year. Sorry but he is far from a poor defender. I could care less what his fielding percentage was. It's an almost useless stat because of the fact that errors are ruled on by the official scorer. Like DHonks said - he isn't very good with the glove, especially when it comes to bending over and picking it. Unless you expect him to lose weight and gain flexibility as he gets older, he's probably not going to improve that. Using PMR from Baseball Musings, he was slightly below average.
  4. Our INF defense of Fielder, Weeks, Hardy, Koskie, Graffy, & Counsell is actually a strong group of fielders. IMO, the only one with a question mark is Weeks, who certainly needs to prove that the last 40ish games of 2006 were no fluke. Fielder and Weeks are both poor defenders, as far as I'm concerned. Even when Weeks wasn't making errors (a subjective stat decided by an official scorer), he wasn't good. I'd agree that Counsell is a strong fielder, as well as Hardy, and if Koskie comes back, so is he. Graffanino is average at best. I think the right side of the infield will be a sieve. If Koskie can't play, and Braun is at 3B, three of the four will not be good defenders.
  5. This is not a good idea. With the Brewers's defense behind him, this becomes a 5.00 ERA pitcher.
  6. So by that, I gather that you think Jenkins will either rebound or get no worse? Honestly, I don't really have a doubt. It's not just the $9 million for next year, it's the rumored 4 years that would scare me.
  7. There's not much of a difference between .791/.798 and .819. And Jenkins only played 67 games in 2002. Committing $9 million a year or whatever he wants for that small of a difference would be stupid. Just keep Jenkins and platoon him. Like others said, his defense is so much better that he's clearly a better player. His contractual situation is also way better from the Brewers perspective.
  8. This is just the usual familiar mediocrity obsession that teams have - it tends to manifest itself the most when they are signing relief pitchers.
  9. I loved "Clerks II", even though I'm disappointed that it was lacking the inside jokes that were kind of the hallmark of Smith movies (other than the epic classic, "Jersey Girl"). It seemed like he aimed more mainstream. He'll never match "Clerks", but that was such an awesome movie, I can't really blame him. I still like all his movies aside from "Jersey Girl".
  10. McPherson has had all kinds of injury problems, and he has walk problems.
  11. Clint Barmes is a bad baseball player. Why are the Brewers suddenly attempting to acquire bad baseball players?
  12. I would say to definitely get the prospect handbook. Everything is boiled down nicely and you get a good overview of a ton of prospects. I'd recommend getting a free issue of BA, too. www.baseballamerica.com/s...issue.html
  13. If you have TGJ leading off in MLB, especially at this point, you are indeed crazy.
  14. Considering that Pettitte got $15 million, I wouldn't be shocked.
  15. Yeah, if it weren't for the injuries, I likely would. The A's probably think they need a SS due to Crosby's total meltdown, so maybe the Brewers could trade Hardy and more for him (if he were to actually be available). Allegedly, Beane was interested in Mench last season, but I don't buy that, either. Maybe Jackson would interest them, or even Jenkins.
  16. Rich Harden is as good as Sheets when healthy. He is really, really good. No way I'd trade Hall for him, though. Milledge for him has been the rumor, but it's moreso because Buster Olney seems to have this idea in his head that the A's lust for Lastings Milledge. In all, I don't actually think Harden is available. Blanton, probably, but not King Richard. I'm not a particularly big fan of Blanton, though, I remember getting into a discussion last offseason with some who thought he had a higher ceiling than Haren, which he doesn't.
  17. I wouldn't go quite that far, but it's stunning to see them make a trade that actually looks good. They should have a decent offense with those two, and maybe Sanchez is legit. Still, with the Duffys and McClouths of the world, someone has to get on base.
  18. Haven't they soured on Tim Stauffer? Maybe it's still to soon for them to feel compelled to trade him, though. I'd take Matt Bush as a throw-in, just so I could follow more closely just how bad he is. I would've loved to have gotten Cla Meredith before he blew up last year.
  19. But for fun, look at the response from USS Mariner before they knew it was false . . . You just have to know that lil' Buzzie has something even dumber up his sleeve soon, though.
  20. No, but there's been more incidents than that.
  21. I know part of the problem with the Nats was that they (the FO and fellow players) were upset with his constant voicing of his religious beliefs in the clubhouse. Stuff like this: www.washingtonpost.com/wp...02093.html
  22. Yeah, they could always dump Vargas on some unsuspecting team and hand the 5th spot to Villanueva.
  23. Advantage way in favor of the Braves. I disagree whole-heartedly. LaRoche blew up last year - .285/.354/.561 with 32 HR. They're trading 140 games of solid performance, and a manageable contract, for 50 IP.
