  1. How can you say you know what you are going to get out of him for the next 4-5 years? He'll be 30 in June. That's no sure thing. Hart and or Cruz have to get a chance to play some time.
  2. Lee just isn't that great, though. He's an average player. If they can get a ton of talent in a deal for him, I think Mark A. and Melvin realize that would be wisest. Players with his body type and skill-set don't age well, and they certainly shouldn't be kept around a low-revenue team until they are 35 for $10 million a year. It doesn't make sense. Chances are that Weeks and Fielder will outperform anything Lee has done, and I think one of Hart or Cruz could match what Lee did for a lot less cash. This is a franchise that should be building toward a 6-8 year window of opportunity by spending wisely, not a team that throws a bunch of money at an aging player in hopes of taking one big shot at it. I'd try and deal him this offseason, and I wouldn't keep him past next year.
  3. Hey DHonks, have you seen Stephen Drew yet?
  4. I like Boyd Nation because I can go find out who leads NCAA in walks http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif - Mike Costanzo of Coastal Carolina last year, now with the Phillies (.274/.356/.473 in the NYPL this year, with 35 BB in 281 AB). Other than that, I don't really care for his writing or anything.
  5. If I were a Royals fan, I'd be pretty ticked that the scouting director had already essentially ruled out one portion of the draft class because they have already addressed the offense. He could just be saying nothing, of course, he does work in a front office.
  6. Wow. Four bombs?!?! Even in those environs, that's unreal.
  7. It probably prevents them from reaching their offensive potential, in reality. Look at the White Sox, even though they are lousy as is, if they would have drawn more walks (something I would consider a "fundamental") and sacrificed less, not to mention get caught stealing less, they would have been less lousy offensively. They hit 200 HR as a team this year, they should have scored more than 741 runs.
  8. I think that just because a manager or player or scout or media member says it's true doesn't make it true. Bunting is a perfect example of this.
  9. Tonight will be the night that Russ etches his name in the Brewers history when he propels them to win #82.
  10. Perez scares me. He's awesome, and he pitched pretty well in his last start. I'll bet this is a nailbiter and, sorry hawing, a ND for Doug.
  11. It's really nice that they added all these games to the TV schedule. They are going to get ratings. Now, about that regional network...
  12. This just in: According to Bill, Adam Dunn has a "pretty good eye at the plate". Apparently he just noticed this, though Dunn now has 459 BB in 2251 AB in his career and has walked over 100 times in three different seasons.
  13. I'd like to see them with an 8 run lead through the 5th and Cappy at 80 pitches so he can be pulled. He's definitely hitting an innings wall, and it's not really surprising.
  14. Does anyone know if tomorrow's game is on T.V.? Yes. It is. Brettac, great photo reference! When I see a spot where I can fit a Journey pic, I'm all over it.
  15. Steeeve Perry! http://www.photofeatures.com/journey/images/prevs/j15201a.jpg
  16. Stuff like W/L and the like would be used by Cappy's side in an arby hearing. Stuff like FIP, QS%, etc. would be used by the Brewers side. The arbitor would then decide on which of the sides has a better case. If he sucks next year and his luck evens out, he could be cheap when his arby starts.
  17. This sounds encouraging. Heck, research that yields this is always appreciated: In 2004, Yankees pitchers allowed 2,027 ground balls. Based on the amount of balls put into play by left-handed and right-handed batters against the Yankees, I expected Yankee shortstops to make 450 assists. Derek Jeter played 93% of defensive innings played by the Yankees, so I expected him to have 419 assists. Jeter actually had 392 assists, which puts him at -27 assists above average. Converted to runs, he's -16.
  18. Rick Helling is helping me lock up a fantasy championship, and for that I'd like to thank him from the bottom of my heart, as well as Maddux.
  19. Well, it was only 42 AB's, so it wasn't that much of a drought.
  20. Well, there's the token HR allowed.
