  1. At this point I'm just shaking my head at this horrendous pitching staff. I can't get too frustrated with scrubs like Burns since he probably won't be here next year...if he is, we're in trouble. Part of it is I just love watching baseball, the other is it's like the plane crash that you just can't turn away from. I'm not sure, but I'm still watching. I'm looking forward to the offseason to see what DM can do to get some pitching. This should be an interesting off season. It's also fun to watch the Cubs collapse. I can't stand the Cards either, but my disdain for them is no where near the Cubs. With how bad we are, can you believe we're only a game and a half behind them? That's funny. Not sure if I want to pass them or take the higher draft pick. It's like watching the Bucks after a couple months...it's all about racking up the ping pong balls.
  2. Any other former Brewers underachieving losers going to tag off on us tonight?
  3. My bad...that should have been in blue. It wasn't like Rick Manning getting getting a game winning hit with Molitor and his hitting streak in the on deck circle, but at this point I wouldn't mind seeing Trevor rack up the stats so maybe he'll want to come back here next year. Sure was a sight for sore eyes to see the bats wake up...and for Braden to only give up one dong.
  4. Poor Hoffman...I was hoping he'd tack on save tonight, but those Brewers bats are waking up at the wrong time.
  5. I wouldn't trade Prince until they are out of it in 2011. Having two special hitters in Braun and Fielder is the reason they have a very solid offense. Trading him for pitching or something else would just transfer the hole to a big one in the middle of our lineup. Prince will be the runner up to Pujols for MVP in the NL this year...it's tough to see Gamel reaching that level.
  6. I'd have him on a pitch count of 80 until the rosters expand, then just shut him down. At this point it's just a waste. I also wonder about Parra. I'd have him on a lower pitch count too, although he may need the outings to work on his mechanics. Just throw our crummy AAA scrubs out there and let them throw batting practice, they can't be any worse than the non-Gallardo scrubs we've been throwing out there the last 6-8 weeks.
  7. From what I have heard on Flores - He has a live arm and was used as a closer in low A. He's got a solid attitude, but his problems have been more mental. Sounds like a long shot project. They get a free look at him, then he's an FA at year's end. Seattle was unlikely to resign him.
  8. It's getting close to time to shut down Yovani for the year. I'd hate to see him out there throwing 100+ pitches in September.
  9. 6 yr FA so the M's were going to lose him anyway.
  10. I just don't think you can trade a guy like Hoffman. They may want to bring him back and they may want to attract guys like him in the future. They could only do this if they were approached by Trevor himself.
  11. Back then they expected to stink by July, these guys sound shellshocked.
  12. Nats, Padres & Pirates...I have seen the worst team in the NL and it is us. Remember the good old days when we owned Jesse Chavez?
  13. Looks like Manny didn't leave all his meatballs in Nashville. That pitch to Milledge was horrendous.
  14. Mets & Cubs for sure. Their outlooks for next year aren't much better given the age of some of their critical players. I'd even add the Reds in there...some people had them as a sleeper in the Central. The Brewers are probably a bigger disappointment to us than they are the national media, although even there they probably thought they were an 85 win team, not a 75 win team. If Boston doesn't make the playoffs that would be a huge disappointment.
  15. It certainly did draw attention...my guess is it put even more focus on how broken the draft is. No doubt this is topic 1A in the next collective bargaining agreement. It will be comical pitting the players & owners against the agents.
  16. Given how awful our pitching is, it is amazing we are anywhere near .500. Braun & Fielder are darn near the entire team. Todd Coffey in a blowout? Why not put him in when it was a game? Nice Macha...you are an idiot.
  17. I'd agree with Stevo. He's been exactly as advertised. He's a really solid leadoff hitter with good speed and a little pop. The guy can flat out hit. He's also prone to mental lapses in the field and on the basepaths and that probably gets old after awhile. He seems to have a problem focusing at times. That really makes me wonder if they bring him back. I can't believe I used "and that" in a sentence...I've been hearing way too much DM lately and that caused me to use it.
  18. They seemed to indicate that CC would have an additional revenue impact. It's tough to see them selling more tickets than they already had, but maybe they could have raised the prices a little and gotten away with it. The Fox deal was also up and there could have been a merchandise bump. Maybe that helps bump the overall payroll up $5-10mm allowing them to make a couple of (but not all) additional moves. That being said, I still think they are just marginally better than where they are now.
  19. The Cards are one of the better teams in the NL right now. A healthy Carpenter and the addition of Holliday puts them as the class of the division. If we get rolling, I could see us passing the Cubs...they really aren't that good with a bunch of tired arms in that rotation. The Brewers just don't have the arms. The only thing that will help our overworked bullpen is a long offseason. I wouldn't say we're completely out of it, but it's close. We'd need to get on a serious tear in the next two weeks...11 or 12 of 13 to get back in it. Not impossible, but highly doubtful.
  20. As much as losing Paulie was perhaps the darkest memory of my Brewers fan life...the pitching falling apart after an awesome 92 was a bigger part of the demise. Robin can do no wrong on my book. The club was starting to rebuild, all the small/big market stuff was big on Bud's agenda and Robin's physical skills were tailing off. All valid reasons he hung it up.
