  1. Football Soccer Hockey NASCAR (driver vs pit) Lacrosse Water polo To be honest almost every single competitive team sport outside of basketball and baseball. No matchup in sports is as lopsided as the pitcher hitting vs another pitcher. The closest you can find is probably a kicker tackling in the NFL. Even the best hitter in baseball would struggle to hit effectively if they only got to bat every 5th game every year. The pitcher hitting in major league baseball is just absurd. One of the dumbest thing in all of pro sports. When you consider a pitcher being 1/3 as effective as an average hitter to be a 'good hitting pitcher' you know your system is flawed.
  2. I'd definitely vote for it. Watching a pitcher bat is probably the least entertaining part of a baseball game for me. I'd rather have no DH than have the two leagues stay different though since it keeps the NL at a disadvantage overall.
  3. Ishikawa also elects free agency.
  4. To be fair there were a ton of scrubs in that world series too. Terry Steinbach, Glenn Hubbard, Walt Weiss, Alfredo Griffin, Jeff Hamilton etc. Outside of game 1 that was a really boring World Series too. Giants vs Tigers was a particularly boring matchup for me as well so I didn't watch much of it either.
  5. With the new run scoring environment pitching just isn't as valuable as it used to be so they are adjusting to the new system.
  6. One more minor league suspension. He is safe from those as long as he is in the majors I believe.
  7. Unfortunately for Jenkins he played in an age where CF won all of the gold gloves so he never stood a good chance.
  8. Jones also has the whole switch hitting thing going for him and his stats are suppressed by injury so he will get a little bit of a mulligan, he is also an adored player and played a more premium position. I think Braun has a really good shot at the HOF personally assuming he is never linked to steroids again. Obviously nobody has a great shot at it at his age since the odds are they will get hurt before they play long enough, but his odds are better than most.
  9. Also I don't think the baseball going deep into the NFL hurts them anymore now than it used to. Week 5 of the NFL season is just as popular as week 8 so I don't see how that really matters much. There is no way they are going to cut it down to where it finishes before the NFL and you really don't want the playoffs in the first few weeks of the NFL when everyone is all pumped that the season is starting.
  10. Between innings limits, unknown production and injuries you just can't rely on young pitching, it is pretty important to have 2 or 3 well known commodities in the rotation. Then you can supplement those with 2 or 3 young guys.
  11. I guess my point was that Braun is the perfect situation to stay productive into his mid 30s. He isn't a big muscle guy who tend to start having issues in their early 30s. He isn't playing 3B, 2B, SS, C or CF which all wear a body down a lot faster. If I had to pick a handful of under 30 guys who would stay productive a long time he would be towards the top of the list. I expect him to stay productive longer than any other player currently on the Brewers roster for sure.
  12. He has the body type to stay productive a long time and he plays a position that isn't very demanding on the body. He could easily play his final years in the AL as a DH as well. I think it is a stretch to expect him to break down before his late 30s barring injuries. The constant intercostal issues are a very serious concern for his longevity though.
  13. There is a difference between thinking the 30 odd R+RBI that Cabrera has over Trout is the difference and thinking the games played are the difference. The games played should be completely ignored, the counting stats shouldn't.
  14. Trout isn't the best defensive CF in the AL, Bourjus is who plays on the same team. Adam Jones beating him out for GG is just voters being dumb though, but that isn't anything new for GG.
  15. ARam had a great year defensively but he didn't deserve a GG. Braun was much closer to deserving it. Nice to see Hardy finally get some love as he has been one of the better SS in baseball for a long time now.
  16. Fantasy football, gambling and the fact every single football game matters is why this happens. Baseball is not a TV ratings sport, it just isn't. single games don't matter, fantasy season lasts way too long and the games are too variable to bet on. The playoffs themselves are complete erratic because they aren't played just on weekends etc, they are played at different times every game and the early games in a series just don't matter at all. If you compare the sports by overall viewers/attendence baseball blows the NFL out of the water and it isn't even close, if you compare them by individual games TV ratings the NFL blows MLB out the water and it isn't even close, they are just very different sports.
  17. Batting .192 in the three playoff series before this year isn't exactly "solid." No but the OPS he put up is very solid and not really worthy of big complaints, thanks for the snarky comment though, it shows you have really put a lot of thought into this.
  18. To be fair a large part of football being so popular is gambling and fantasy. Another major factor is they only play 16 games. If baseball had a much shorter schedule it would get much higher ratings but not be as good a game. Football is the perfect format for ratings, you won't compete with them on that front without completely revamping the game. You are welcome to your opinion but this is completely false. Over 60 million people attended games in person this year in baseball which will be more than 20 times as many attend an NFL game, they expanded the TV market and the internet market has exploded. Baseball is still right there with football for most popular sport in the US. The long season, slow pace and erratic schedule just doesn't lend itself to playoffs. I'm a huge baseball fan and I mostly just watch the Packers and the sometimes the Thu/Mon games if I have nothing else to do for NFL, but even I ended up watching the football game instead of game 1 on Thu. I just didn't care about the teams at all and game 1 of 7 doesn't have enough meaning to compel me to watch. If that had been game 5 6 or 7 I very well may have watched but the first few games of a series where I don't care about the teams just isn't worth it.
  19. Samples are too small to mean anything, especially for Prince. He looked solid in the playoffs until this season, anytime one small sample of games in one seasons can completely change a perception it means the perception is flawed in the first place. To be fair to Prince he got a number of hits and a HR stolen from him in the AL games. I've never been one to harp on ARod for post season numbers either though.
  20. More playoff series is not really the problem, the problem is unless you are a huge baseball fan or fan of the specific teams playing there is no reason to care about any game until one team has 3 wins. Moving to a 5 game series is a definitely must to begin with. The most interesting playoff games this season were the 1 game play-in games and the least interesting were the World Series. 1 game wild card, 3 game divisional/championship and 5 game world series would make the playoffs much more popular. It wouldn't make them better, just more popular.
  21. Yeah I could help but chuckle the other day when they said not only can Fielder hit but he is a good defensive 1B and is athletic so he is a good base runner. He is a passable defensive player but he is a pretty awful base runner.
  22. I would cheer on the team I actually like if there was a team I liked in the playoffs. Given that two bad choices made it I have to find something to cheer for. I would understand if our ace lost in a big game though because no matter how good a pitcher is they still have bad games, some people just don't seem to understand that.
  23. Loving this. Detroit is one of my least favorite teams and I love seeing an 'ace' lose in a big game situation since it shuts the mouths of all those people who think that an 'ace' means a perfect pitcher which just doesn't exist. Same way I like to see crappy QBs win super bowls.
  24. Young is a Carlos Gomez quality CF, one of the best in baseball. Crisp is likely to be traded, he just cant' stay healthy enough to rely on.
  25. Definite sell low on Young, pretty terrible move by DBacks. Though not as terrible as the Reds giving Baker 2 more years when he has taken a .550 style team to a .515 record over the past 3 seasons.
