  1. Not only is that park a Pitcher's park, it is a park that is specifically hard to hit opposite field HR as a RH hitter which hurts Posey more than most of their hitters.
  2. This hasn't been forgotten, it has been the formula for making the world series for a number of years now. Also I don't know about the timely hitting thing, they were a top 5 hitting team in the NL this year, seems like just good pitching and good hitting like all the other playoff teams.
  3. Yeah Lohse really scares me. His career ERA is 4.45, his career xFIP is 4.45 and his career SIERRA is 4.53. The past 2 seasons his ERA has been 3.39 and 2.86 his xFIPs have been 4.04 and 3.96 and his SIERRA have been 4.26 and 4.06. I can't help but think that a lot of his elite status has been flukey or at the very least heavily aided by playing with a good defense in a pitchers park. Low K guys in general are prone to wild swings in ERA because so much of their value is tied into not giving up HR at the wrong time, BABIP and LOB% and I just don't like the idea of Lohse in our park with our defense for multiple seasons.
  4. That isn't even true in the real world much less baseball. At every job I've ever held I've had a raise every single year and so has everyone I work with no matter how terrible they are. The difference is bad employees got smaller raises and good ones got bigger ones. really awful employees got fired.
  5. The NBA is awful, even worse than soccer or tennis or golf or NASCAR or UFC or wrestling.
  6. I expect us to pick up a mid range starter and a couple bullpen guys and a backup OF and walk into next year with 85ish win talent and hope we end up in playoffs. I don't think any Brewer will win an award for last year though. As for 3B, it is a not a durable position. It isn't quite as bad as say SS but you don't see many 3B stay healthy long term especially as they get older. He probably will have a couple weeks off every year from here on out.
  7. It makes me sad and disappointed that I'm hoping for Yankees vs Giants at this point. Probably 4 of the 10 teams I like the least in baseball left now.
  8. I agree completely but the voters just aren't very likely to agree. The playoffs mean a ton for MVP as does late season performance. It is silly that it works that way but that is just how it goes. It was a shock last year when Felix won CY with so few wins so maybe the voters are getting smarter in general but I still will be blown away surprised if the voters get this one right. It will almost certainly be Posey and Cabrera.
  9. I wouldn't expect him to get much support for the HOF but some of the people they have put in there lately make it plausible at least.
  10. Yeah I don't like either of them a ton but I don't see why you would rate RBI highly and ignore R which is what most people do. Even in fantasy baseball they do that.
  11. I agree, Park factors are just awful in general. Much more so for hitters than pitchers though since at least pitchers tend to face an aggregate group of players. It is very easy for park factors to favor a hitter but in reality hurt said hitter or vice verse.
  12. Regardless of whether you like WAR or not you shouldn't use games played as a negative for counting stats. If Trout has 150 runs, 60 HR and 150 RBI but only played 81 games and leads baseball in WAR, RC+ and all other 'counting stats' he shouldn't get dinged for only playing 81 games. It is like when people talk about the greatest QBs of all time in football and their number 1 criteria is number of Super Bowl's they won, just makes no sense at all.
  13. Yeah, discounting Trout because of games played isn't rational.
  14. Reread my posts, I didn't say anything even remotely close to what you think I did.
  15. Not only did Cabrera make the playoffs, he was the hot bat that got them there. I think the odds of Trout winning it are under 10%. Just like there is no way Braun will win it.
  16. Just to set things straight I'm not suggesting we should trade Braun with that post. I'm suggesting that we have to play for 2013/2014 even if it means hurting our future some because of how good he is and how hard he is going to be to replace when it comes that time. These are the types of players that give a mid market(by payroll) team playoff windows. We don't have the depth to constantly trade and replenish like say the Rays do. When we go out and overpay for a mid tier SP and some RP this season because we need depth and people come and complain about how stupid it is, this is the comment that I will point to.
  17. Yeah change is bad and if they move away from how it was 30 years ago to keep their fan base it is a big mistake. I get not liking the new format but don't say you don't like it just because it isn't how baseball has always been. They needed to expand the playoffs and they needed to shorten the series to keep today's fans interested in the game. Baseball is kind of in a tough spot because of the rich statistical history of the game so it is hard to modify much of the actual game but the playoffs have some room for changes.
  18. I know those were jokes but if we don't play for 2013-2014 we should trade Braun. It is either all in now or get value for him. The absolutely worst thing we could do is be conservative the next 2 years and hold onto Braun.
  19. 42 and I think any argument for Cabrera is just awful. Braun vs Posey is at least close, this one is a joke. But as I said earlier, a lot of years Cabrera would deserve the MVP, it just comes down to Trout having such an amazing over the top year.
  20. Cabrera will win, can't find a single reason he should win other than 'durr her won the triple crown'. Cabrera wasn't one of the 5 best positional players in baseball this year most likely though. He arguably wasn't a top 2 player at his position if you include defense. It still isn't a huge deal to me since he had a season worthy of an MVP so hard to be too upset.
  21. Nothing that the A's do this year has anything to do with bashing Beane, this was a pretty magical season that has very little to do with the full range of talent they put on the field. Having said that the Rangers had a great team that just slumped badly at the wrong time, can't blame the GM for that. Sometimes nobody is to blame, it was just bad timing. Dusty Baker is one of the 10 worst managers in baseball and his team might win the World Series, try not to read too much into these things.
  22. I don't know how you can hold that against Trout. It's not like he wanted to start in the minors. If anything, it makes Trout's stats that much more impressive. Yeah this seems like a slam dunk reason to give Trout the edge since he was more valuable in fewer games.
  23. Very little of this has to do with the playoffs dragging on too long. Most of it is because fans whose teams aren't in the race just don't care about the early games in these series. I'm not a big basketball fan and I could care less about the first 3 games of any given basketball series because they just don't matter to me. Adding more high profile games is nothing but a good thing.
  24. His season was driven almost completely by the bump in HR so the question is really whether he can repeat that or not. None of his secondary stats showed any significant improvement which would make me feel a lot better about his year. Take away 4 or 5 HR and he is more or less exactly at his career line. So is he really a 25+ HR guy year in and year out if he plays full time or not? I don't have the answer to that question. His defense probably keeps him as a positive value regardless, but if he goes back to the career line it isn't a very high value.
  25. Problem with that theory is that you don't get to pick what division you are in. Which is why the play in works better. The 4th-6th or so teams have about the same talent a lot of the time, just one usually ends up winning more because they were in an easier division anyway.
