  1. If this is true it means steroids weren't a big deal because almost everyone used them so they didn't matter in the long run. Steroids are a much bigger deal if 10% of player used them than if 80% did.
  2. Playoff odds up to 21% without adding in the Brewers win, gotta be up over 25% with it I would think. Starting to get 'real' now.
  3. Nice job letting Jackson look like the CY when he pitched a pretty bad game. Smaller park and fewer dumb mistakes and we have 5 or 6 runs.
  4. I can't see any reason to think Bianchi is more than minor league depth next year or to be honest at any point in his career.
  5. Peralta but to be honest I'm going under the assumption that 5 years from now one of them is good, one is a #5 and the rest are in the bullpen or out of baseball.
  6. That is a bit of a stretch. Guys get hurt and other guys get their chance every year on every team. This isn't something unique to the Brewers. Half of the players you listed probably aren't good enough to be in the majors full time next year anyway, we still don't know which ones will stick.
  7. Brewers are 4th in baseball in wOBA and 4th in wRC+. They are 3rd in runs. They are about average in BsR which is supposed to measure baserunning. While we are aggressive it isn't really helping or hurting us much statistically. You would have to look a lot deeper to know if it is helping or hurting situationally.
  8. No it isn't. The talent level in AAA is higher than AA. Yes there are more prospects in AA but that is because AAA also has MLB fringe players while AA doesn't and AA is where prospects loose their prospect status. I'm not sure I agree with this. AA is where you put your talent, AAA is where you put your low upside depth most of the time.
  9. If they keep swinging at the stuff out of the strike zone Peralta will be one of the best pitchers in baseball. That just isn't all that likely. Marmol has some of the nastiest stuff in all of baseball but when the umps don't give him breaks and the players don't swing at the 75% of his pitches that aren't for strikes he ends up struggling.
  10. There is no way to ever measure how much a manager matters to a team outside of maybe game time decisions. This isn't something new. RR seems like a decent manager to me but there just is no way to quantify it.
  11. The season will be a disappointment but not a disaster. There will be a lot of positives to pull from it.
  12. I like the 1 game wild card because it gives division winners a clear edge in the playoffs. If it is a 3 game series you pitch your best guy in the 1st game and he is rested by the 1st game of the 'real playoffs'. This system makes it harder on wild card teams and I think that is how it should be.
  13. Yeah Witrado is awful. Braun never said anything concrete in any of this, he just isn't a moron and realizes that you can't attack the results in a case like this, you can only viably attack the procedure because that is how the rules are written.
  14. Weeks has been underrated from day 1 and has been injury prone from day 1. it is an odd combo.
  15. The one thing that bothers me in all of this is how the media seems to be painting the Phillies as some huge story about how a good team will eventually persevere if all of their stars just keep working hard but the Brewers are just some afterthought who isn't even in the race yet.
  16. 9 games against the nationals and braves. Not sure I buy that it is much easier. Brewers have 4 seriers against awful teams (yes the Pirates are awful regardless of the one hot month they had putting them over .500). Then they play the Nats and the Reds. I'd still say the Phillies have a tougher schedule.
  17. Well if you only look at teams that are somewhat in the playoff hunt and sort by WAR/wOBA you get the following names as candidates. Braun McCutchen Posey Aramis Yadier Molina Holliday My guess is out of that bunch that they will go with Posey unless someone really steps up that is on the fringe. Braun should win it but I don't see it happening.
  18. It is more important and less predictable than people think and that is really the problem. Every year there are a few teams that are said to have great bullpens who are just terrible and teams who had terrible bullpens that are amazing because the sample sizes of a single season of RP are so tiny that you have no idea how good anyone but Rivera is going to be pretty much.
  19. 1 to 1.5 WAR means above replacement and should be starting on a major league team, it is almost average major league player which means could easily start for almost any team in baseball. Narveson is a completely viable #5 starter, no reason to think he is a future bullpen guy at this age at least.
  20. I can't think of a FA I want less than Josh Hamilton. Easiest way this team could throw away cash is to go for him. I don't want Wolf either mind you~
  21. Gallardo is 25th amongst starters in WAR since 2009. He is probably misclassified as an ace. He is 58-37 in that time frame with a 3.42 xFIP which is 12th overall for full time pitchers in that span so he should be classified as a very good pitcher though. He can't help that he has been on poor defensive teams in a hitters division in a hitters park.
  22. He either figured out how to hit righties or he is just getting a little lucky against them. There hasn't been huge changes overall in his K rate or BB rate so I'm guessing this is more fluke than breakout. He still hurts the team anytime his defense isn't adding value and I'd rather not go into next season with him locked in as a full time starter.
  23. Given the owners willingness to go for it, I doubt 2016 is the next time the Brewers are in contention. They are in contention now and will be in 2013.
  24. The Pirates were never in the playoff race, regardless of what the record said. They had a hot streak that put them in position but they were never good enough to really be in it.
  25. No. I don't mean go all in and trade away the farm. I mean don't trade away established players. It means probably signing a free agent pitcher and letting one of the young guys act as depth instead of a must start. Revamp the bullpen obviously. The lineup is mostly fine, maybe let Morgan go and sign a more power hitting style 4th OF that could add depth for Gomez/Aoki since we don't know what they will bring next year.
