  1. I did say full time. From 2008-2010 the worst offensive regular in baseball has been Jose Guillen at -1.1 WAR. The second worse has been Betancourt at -0.8 WAR. Players close to replacement level very rarely get a full time job year after year.
  2. Sure if he reverts to 2006/2007 form I don't mind him that much. If he gives us 2009 form he is the worst player in baseball though. Over the past 3 years he has been the worst defensive SS in baseball and hasn't really added anything offensively to the team. When you have to cite fielding percentage and RBI to try to find a reason for a guy to play you know you are in trouble. He'd have to be a 90 RBI, .990 fielding percentage guy to offset the terrible OBP and complete lack of range though.
  3. Betancourt very well may be the worst full time player in major league baseball. By far the easiest way to improve the team would be to release him and sign any garbage heap SS out there. At the very least I hope he loses playtime to Counsell on a regular basis.
  4. Yeah sounds like a nice stop gap for them before they make the big splash next year and sign Fielder.
  5. Yeah Gamel hasn't really been given a fair chance at anything though given how bad his defense is you can't blame the team all that much. An average defensive player doesn't kill you while they work through struggles but a bat only guy really causes problems if he doesn't come out hitting.
  6. Sure every team has some players who they are in trouble if they get hurt. Problem is with the Brewers it is every single position except maybe 3B with Gamel. We do not have a full time backup at any other position in the minors or on the roster. Closest would probably be at SS since our starter is below replacement level. The pitching depth isn't quite as bad which is an odd turn of events!
  7. An Edmonds type move would be nice. I think Parra is likely your depth at SP for at least the first half of the season at least. Veteran depth flops as often as not anyway, I'd just as soon have an up and coming player as my depth as some old guy who isn't good enough to hold a full time job. What i don't like is not having either and that is what the Brewers have for depth for position players at least.
  8. SS is a much more pressing need than CF.
  9. There was no chance that he would get a starting job for our team, there is no reason at all to expect him to be able to throw 200 innings. His best shot was as a minor league starter or a bullpen guy who could start in times of need, neither jobs he wanted at all.
  10. Do they happen to represent any FA SSs?
  11. Not a big surprise. I don't see how they could count on him as a starter for a full season and he doesn't want to be a depth move or a bullpen guy.
  12. I'd put them a little under .500. It isn't a good team and it is an old team and the division around them has improved.
  13. I think the most important thing to know about the bullpen is that it should pitch fewer innings than last year. Having 4 pitchers who can go somewhat deep into games on a regular basis is just huge. The past two seasons we have had way too many pitchers leaving in the 4th and 5th inning and not enough in the 7th inning or later.
  14. I'd rather they sign a defense oriented OF who can play all over. I'm in the minority probably but CF doesn't bother me that much. Gomez brings enough with his glove to have some value and Dickerson has shown some good things at times as well. SS is a much more pressing concern to me since Betancourt is replacement level.
  15. I hate it when the talking heads say this. You mean they learned something new about baseball in the playoffs that they already didn't know? I have never got the meaning behind this saying at all. I would guess a playoff atmospere is a lot different than normal season games. You hear players talk about it so much that there has to be at least a little something to it. Kind of like how a lot of rookies get overwhelmed by the majors their first few months.
  16. Sure it is a concern but again we did better vs RHP than LHP last year, it isn't like there is a huge tangible effect at play here.
  17. It is probably important but the Brewers had a higher team OPS against RHP than LHP last year so I doubt it was that huge of a deal either.
  18. I also didn't realize it was a 3rd offense which makes it seem more reasonable.
  19. I really don't agree with the sentence to be honest. There should be extremely harsh consequences but you see pedophiles and people who sell crack to minors get smaller sentences. This is one of those cases where I think the guy actually can be rehabilitated and I don't believe most criminals can be.
  20. Braun has a pretty strong arm, he just has the worst accuracy of just about any OF in baseball~.
  21. I really hate option 1, our defense is downright terrible now, we cant' take another huge hit. At the very least I hope Dickerson and Counsell get a lot of playtime. I'd like to sign another LH utility type if we can find one.
  22. I think the Reds will get better this year so I think we are contenders with them. I think the Cardinals will fall short this year though.
  23. I think last year we had an 81 win team that underperformed and I think we've gained about 5-6 wins with the moves we've made so put me down for 87 wins. We can get that up to 88 or even 89 if we sign a new SS.
  24. Betancourt costs us $1M this year and then $2M next year(to not be on the team) so I could see him saying that was worth it. I don't agree with him but I could see it at least.
  25. There is no reason we can't contend in 2012. Weeks and Fielder are nice players but they can be replaced for sure. If we have major injury issues that would be the reason we worry about 2012. 2013-2015 are the years that I really worry about.
