  1. We generally just bring our own food, I agree that the prices are outrageous. I know that it is just the norm when buying from that type of venue but I personally refuse to pay it.
  2. It will be the Cubs coming back from a 0-3 defecit ala the Red Sox or it will be the Blue Jays winning it all on a Bautista walk off ala Joe Carter. I know this because these are the two worst results possible in my mind and that is what always ends up happening in the playoffs. The less I like the team the more likely they go all the way.
  3. There are all kinds of stats that suggest it won't be the Cubs. 1 of the past 14 teams to win 100+ games won a World Series. In the past 21 years the team with the best record in baseball has only won the World Series 4 times. Most likely some goofy team like the Giants will win it all.
  4. I'm just glad it is an even year so we know the Giants will win it all somehow even though they are probably the worst team in the playoff field~. I'm also really happy the Royals and Pirates tanked, both teams I don't like at all.
  5. He wasn't. He had the same season for us one year. No reason to question it unless he is great again next year which is probably unlikely. But if you want a simple answer, likely a sophomore slump followed by his son dying and messing him up.
  6. And I fully support this. He could be a surprise like 3.60 ERA starter who came out of nowhere and has value and we trade him high which would be great. But the serious reality is he is more like a 4+ ERA backend guy who nobody wants to pay for and just had one great year for us and added almost nothing else.
  7. LOB% of 79.4% which clearly isn't sustainable. BABIP of .250 which isn't sustainable. Especially considering the high 33.8% hard contact he is giving up. His xFIP is a full 1.50 higher than his ERA which screams fluke. If I personally had to project him next year giving him the benefit of the doubt I would place him at like a 3.70 ERA and that is assuming some of what looks lucky is a skill which some pitchers do display sometimes. I'd be more surprised by a 3.30 ERA than by a 4.50 ERA though.
  8. If you look at his deeper stats it screams almost certainly a fluke. If I had to project him for next year and I had to round to the nearest run I'd go with a 4.00 ERA over a 3.00 ERA.
  9. Lets be realistic here, Davis has been a roughly league average player this season and is getting payed peanuts, we almost certainly lost value in this trade. A league average player is worth roughly $15M a year right now and he got payed under $1M so Oakland theoretically gained $14M in value on him this year. Now to be honest some of that is given back by the fact they aren't making the playoffs but there is almost no scenario where the A's didn't get a huge win by having him on the roster. If we knew he was going to repeat last year even with a hit on walks we would not have traded him for what we got. We obviously didn't know he could repeat so we added some regression into our offer.
  10. I love getting something for Davis too, but not when the return is looking not so hot and Davis arguably has more value now than he did Obviously the return isn't great right now but Davis doesn't have more value than he did. Sub .300 OBP, to go with power and bad defense. We picked up Carter for $2.5 million to provide exactly the same thing Davis does except more OBP. I have to disagree. I was iffy about the Davis trade but it is a clear failure at this point. He easily would get more today than he got when we traded him. I think he is overrated because what he gives is flashier than the value it gives in reality but teams still gladly trade for power. Khris Davis is worth more today than he was when we traded him and it isn't even close.
  11. Braun has actually been pretty close to average defensively as a LF over his years at the position. It was just in RF that he lost some value and hurt the team defensively.
  12. The Royals starting pitching was awful last year and they won the World Series just to answer a question above. There is no perfect way to build a world series winner. You make the playoffs and hope you get hotter than the other teams. It is rarely the best team in baseball that wins it.
  13. Color me unimpressed, oh well. Still not an awful trade but definitely not a good one for my money.
  14. I don't really trust it in partial years and I'd rather pick it apart some to see where it comes from. He has a huge bonus in baserunning and from his position on the field. The offense isn't really doing all that much and his fielding is bad. I'm guessing him having the 9th highest Bsr in the league in a half season isn't sustainable by any means. Translated to a full season only Billy Hamilton has more value on the bases and I just don't believe that is true.
  15. In a season where he performed over expectations he has still not even played at an average major league level and to be honest given the BB rate and K rate I don't see him being significantly over replacement level going forward. If we are lucky we can trade him for a 20% chance to hit prospect down the road.
  16. A single season is a small sample of BABIP. It jumps around wildly year to year. There is almost no way Villar is a .290 hitter much less a .300 hitter in reality (without improving which is plausible at his age). This would be a great time to sell high on him but I think most teams realize this and aren't going to buy too high.
  17. I don't know what we will do with him but he is having a sneaky improvement year at the plate that nobody is really noticing because of the low average. His K/BB rate has improved, he is pulling the ball less, he is hitting the ball harder on average, he is popping out less. For whatever reason it is translating into the lowest BABIP of his career when these things should be improving it. If he were hitting even the .234 of 2014 he'd have a roughly .365 OBP and an OPS in the .725 range. It won't surprise me if he is a Carlos Ruiz type who suddenly has a couple decent offensive years in his early 30s after being a no hit catcher most of his career.
  18. There are many reasons for Weeks low average but one that hasn't been commented on yet is his extreme number of popups. For his career he had an IF/FB rate of 12.1%. In 2007 he popped up on an amazing 17.4% of all balls put in the air and he was a pretty heavy flyball hitter at 41.3%. That year he popped out 21 times and struck out another 116 times in 409 AB. So 33% of his AB turned into plays where he was always going to be out. That is what drives the low .287 BABIP that year.
  19. Differences in fielding metrics. Bref has him at 2.7 and 3.4 those years.
  20. That is a really wide range of talents there. So he is not somewhere between average and potential HOF? I expect Arcia will probably match Weeks 11 career WAR.
  21. If Arcia consistently matches Escobar's 2011 and 2012 he is a star player though. Escobar just hasn't been able to do it consistently.
  22. Yah except JJ Hardy was actually hitting decently in the minors when we called him up. Arcia on the other hand was having a pretty bad season considering he was in a hitters paradise. Hardy, Fielder and Weeks were all brought up at least half a season too early to try to get fans in the seats. They are not a good example to follow.
  23. Yost is the only manager I really disliked. Given option A or B you can usually argue which one is best, too many times he went with option F which was so clearly the wrong move that it was indefensible. If you are routinely making the only move you could have that makes no sense at all, I'm not happy. Counsell just seems kind of like a vanilla manager. The time to assess him is likely at the end of next year or 2018 though. If you are bringing in a new manager it should probably be while the team is ready to consider winning and not in the middle of a rebuild.
  24. 15 games? That seems really high. That's way more than the difference between the most valuable player in the league and a replacement level player. I have a hard time thinking I'd rather have Maddon than Mike Trout. It is like 5 games or so at best.
  25. The time to make a decision one way or another on Counsell is likely the first year we are actually thinking about winning at the big leagues as the primary goal. The timing just seems really odd to change managers right now. We aren't maximizing wins in 2017, it is 2018 or beyond.
