  1. My credit union pays 4-6% dividends on my checking account balance, as long as I use the credit card option instead of debit card option with my card (at least ten times per month to qualify). So, while I can understand the added costs for businesses to accept credit cards, I'm going to look out for my own best interest first and keep paying with the credit card option over checks or the debit option. To the other subjects, I haven't balanced my checking account since 1990 (but I don't have to share my account with anyone else, and check my on-line account weekly). And with automatic bill pay set up for all re-occurring expenses, I average less than two checks per month (usually stuff through the mail). But I do carry one check in my wallet, in case of running into some place that doesn't accept a credit card or has a glitch with the processing equipment. Wouldn't mind seeing some of those self check-out options work their way up to the northern part of the state for those low volume purchase trips.
  2. ESPN also has an article giving the Cy Young lead to Webb, but giving CC a better chance at the MVP...hmmmm. http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=22022 "Q: Which is more likely, Sabathia wins the NL cy young or the NL MVP? And does he still have a shot for MVP if he doesn't win the cy young? A: Oddly enough, the MVP is a possibility (however slight) while the Cy Young isn't, because Brandon Webb's got that locked up. Speaking of whom, is the MVP in play for Webb? What if he finishes 22-6 and none of the hitters comes out of the pack? Nah, I guess not."
  3. Anyone ever call out someone with too many items in the express lane? I've noticed a few places change their signs to "about" ten items (or 12 or 15) to give a little leeway. But still there seems to be that person that knowingly exceeds the limit because they don't want to wait in the standard lines. Of course, I just scowl and think bad thoughts to myself, but wondering if anyone has ever confronted someone about abusing the express lane priviledges (or had it done to them).
  4. Anyone know the history of this happening? I recall this being done with Bonds years ago (maybe even back to his Pirates day), but how often does this happen vs. how often does it turn out the desired results?
  5. And now this poll shows up on espn (their bias makes me refuse to capitalize their name any further): Which was last week's Baseball Tonight Web Gem? R. Baldelli: Diving catch vs. A's A. Cabrera: Bare hand pick up, throw across body C. Granderson: Diving catch vs. Blue Jays A. LaRoche: Diving stop/throw from his knees J. Rollins: Jump throw deep in the hole Aren't those clowns missing: G. Kapler: Leaps into bleachers to bring back homerun Even Cameron's diving catch in a tight came was more impressive than some on their list http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  6. I caught USA comeback againt Canada yesterday afternoon, but can't remember which of the 4-5 channels showing events that it was on.
  7. Did Brian Anderson almost call that shot? "0-2 count. Some of Braun's biggest homeruns have come with two strikes".... BAM! Good thing Manny is no Gabe Kapler in left field http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. 7 of the 8 were World Records, the 8th was "only" an Olympic Record.
  9. I've only gotten to know who the actual owner of a bar is at only a handful of locations, so don't really know who is who when visiting another town. But, one of the local ones did actually tell me himself, "you don't tip the owner". The others are usually sitting on our side of the bar, or only briefly jump behind the bar for a few moments during the occasional rush periods - disclosure: my frequent stops are rural bar & grills (sponsors of softball and pool league teams) where you don't have to fight to get the server's attention and can carry on a conversation with the person next to you (and the bartender) without having to shout. I've only ordered delivery once in the seven years in my current location, so I can't help you much with the original question.
  10. I've got it listed on mine up in Wausau on channel 669 at 9:00pm
  11. So you're saying they are exactly alike? And to ESPN, please stop sticking a camera in this guy's face... you are only contributing to the idiocy.
  12. I interpreted the Sabathia trade as an indication that winning in the playoffs was expected... no need to trade LaPorta to go "one and done" in the playoffs (I felt they were in pretty good position to win the wild card without Sabathia). IMO, Mark & Doug went "all in", expecting to more than just make the playoffs (especially with the high probability of losing both Sabathia & Sheets this offseason)... so, I'm with them in expecting to win playoff series.
  13. Sure this could go in the 'vent thread' , but Rickie just reminded me again that I want the rule changed that "you can't assume a double play". Why does another player forcing an out, preclude him from being charged with an error for not being able to throw the ball to first? (Sure seems to often be a guy on third with less than two outs when he botches those throws this year)
  14. Man, that would be great, I can hear it now: Uke: Pujols up to bat now, the Brewers can be a little more aggressive since they have yet to use their mulligan this game... I can't take all the credit, as there are already some casual softball tournaments that already use this - one on offense and one on defense per game; plus a few other novelities like designating that the last guy in the batting order counts as two runs, or only one guy can be designated to hit homeruns with any others being outs, or getting 2nd base if 'intentionally' walking, or one-pitch (walk, strikeout, or in-play).
  15. I think #2 is an awful idea. This is the only thing that allows small market clubs like the Brewers to succeed. There is no way we could afford to pay market value for JJ, Rickie, Prince, Hart, Yovanni, Manny and Villanueva. I like the arbitration system as I feel it makes players go year to year and really earn there keep (at least in those first 6 years). If I originally had included the note that I don't agree with paying market value, would that change your interpretation of my suggestion? Using real generic figures, my problem is spending "only" $6Million combined on the aforementioned JJ, Rickie, Prince, Hart, Yovanni, Manny and Villanueva; and the "market" dictating $10Million for Gagne alone. I'm not suggesting spending more, but distributing more appropriately based upon performance, not tenure. Even if he had regained his Cy Young form, is Gagne's worth to any team 15 times greater than Fielder's, cuz that's what their 2008 salaries would indicate?
  16. Mulligans - give up a grand slam, call for a do-over
  17. Are you willing to propose a maximum on owner's profits? Why should they make more than six figures? Dropping the ticket prices to single digits, making parking free, having the team pay for their own stadium, putting all games on free TV/internet, and beer & merchandise costing no more than at the local grocery or retail store should help keep the owners in the six figure range. 1) I'm on board with the international draft suggestion. 2) Pay guys based on current worth (balance), don't hold back the pre-arby guys like Hart & Fielder and overpay guys like Counsel & Mota 3) Get rid of guaranteed contracts, let guys get cut that aren't holding up at the tail end of contracts like the NFL 4) Replay for fair/foul homeruns, with the review coming from the booth like Big Ten football 5) Stadium design requirements that reduce the freak rulings - get rid of flag poles in centerfield, fences that zig-zag up & down in height, seats that let fans reach into fair play, offsets that cause balls to ricochet off at bizarre angles, and more than a foot of foul territory down the outfield lines (injury prevention).
  18. Having this weekend's softball tournament cancelled late on Thursday afternoon, too late to get into other ones (feel even worse for the guys we had driving from 2-3 hours away that had already planned to take Friday afternoon off work to make it in time). Love catching up on bf.net overnight stories... but should be playing ball right now http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif

  22. And Lt Van Buren on Law & Order orginally appeared as the mother of a shooting victim
  23. 12) Don't hurt or offend anyone with the Brewers on the verge of being at home by the Cubs and stuff starts getting thrown or yelled around the house.
