  1. Some of us really look forward to the power-50. Can I get a July edition please? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. Fixed. I don't realistically believe we have a shot to get the number one offering out there. Harden at least would come cheaper and has tremendous upside. I don't think he's pitched badly this year and certainly knows how to miss bats. I don't see us getting anyone substantial for Hardy alone. His value has simply gone down too much.
  3. Buster Olney claiming the Rays still want to move Kazmir and Crawford. Not quite sure if they mean this year or this offseason. This was written after the deadline so a waivers deal?? Confused. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/08/olneys-latest-padres-braves-indians-rays.html
  4. Checking the 2010 potential SP free agents (Link: http://www.mlbtraderumors...12/2010-mlb-free-a.html) I am officially getting on the Rich Harden bandwagon. I think this would be a great opportunity to get a strikeout-pitcher with upside, while taking one away from a division rival. Health has always been a concern for Harden and he currently pulls around 7-million per season. I see him signing for around ten-million per year. Thoughts on Harden or any of the others on the list? Starting pitchers Brandon Backe (32) Miguel Batista (39) Josh Beckett (30) - $12MM club option with a $2MM buyout Erik Bedard (31) Kris Benson (34) Daniel Cabrera (29) Chris Capuano (31) Bartolo Colon (37) Jose Contreras (38) Doug Davis (34) Justin Duchscherer (32) Adam Eaton (32) Shawn Estes (37) Josh Fogg (33) Freddy Garcia (34) Jon Garland (30) - $10MM mutual option with $2.5MM or $1MM buyout Tom Glavine (44) Mike Hampton (37) Rich Harden (28) Mark Hendrickson (36) Livan Hernandez (35) Tim Hudson (34) - $12MM mutual option with a $1MM buyout Jason Jennings (31) Jason Johnson (36) Randy Johnson (46) John Lackey (31) Cliff Lee (31) - $8MM club option with a $1MM buyout Braden Looper (35) - option Rodrigo Lopez (34) Jason Marquis (31) Kevin Millwood (35) - Rangers can decline $12MM salary for '10 unless he reaches 180 innings in '09 Brian Moehler (38) - mutual option Brett Myers (29) Vicente Padilla (32) - $12MM club option with a $1.75MM buyout Chan Ho Park (37) John Parrish (32) Carl Pavano (34) Brad Penny (32) Odalis Perez (33) Andy Pettitte (38) Joel Pineiro (31) Sidney Ponson (33) Mark Prior (28) Horacio Ramirez (30) Jason Schmidt (37) John Smoltz (43) Tim Wakefield (43) - perpetual $4MM club option Jarrod Washburn (35) Brandon Webb (31) - $8.5MM club option with a $500K+ buyout Todd Wellemeyer (31) Kip Wells (33) Randy Wolf (33) BOLD = Boras Client
  5. I would be completely stoked to get Kaz despite his struggles this season. No one doubts that the guy has some of the best stuff in the league. Hart for Kaz? One year ago, had this been mentioned on a message board, you would have thought the original poster would have been crazy. This is a high-level talent that could be acquired at a virtual discount because of some of his struggles. Let's also remember, Kazmir is still super-young.
  6. I have to agree. I would much rather see Escobar stick around than Gamel. If Hardy isn't involved in a deal for Halladay he could be used to replenish something else later on.
  7. I would be ecstatic to get Morrow but like said previously; good, cheap, young arms are like gold in the bigs. They would require a top hitting prospect for Morrow. Maybe not Escobar, but probably someone like Lawrie.
  8. Also agreed time and time again. No reason to deal him now less the opportunity to get a Madison Bumgarner-type comes up (which it won't). You deal him at the last possible moment and make sure that you get more than compensation picks for a talent of his type. I am going to miss a couple, but the only minor leaguers that would make me think of dealing him away now would be Bumgarner, Tillman, Stanton, or Heyward but I would have to really, really think about it. Prince hasn't shown any signs of a decline in his trade value and plays a position with the lowest risk of injury on the field.
  9. This. Prince is far better and more valuable than Matt Cain, I've never understood the fascination with giving Prince away that some people on this board have. Agreed! Even more so than his 50 home run season, he is showing how special of a hitter he truly is. He is Pujols-lite. (No pun intended)
  10. Another solid start from Maholm. 6IP 2ER 2K 2BB and got the win. Again, not saying he'd be my first choice in the bigs, but at least this kid has upside.
  11. Way to little for Halladay. And remember, the key is the No Trade Clause. Escobar (or Hardy) Lucroy (Some insurance in case Arencibia is hurt or doesn't pan out) Peralta Gillespie (I would only hope!) They were quoted saying it's going to take a "slew" of young prospects to pry Halladay away. The Cardinals were in the mix as well. Let's just hope if we don't get him he stays in the AL.
  12. Katin's having a great year, but he's just too old to be a tier-one or two prospect. He missed the window where he really would have had some great trade value. The reason I say Maholm is because he's a lefty, and if Gamel and Escobar are truly off the table, then we'd have to look for a guy like that instead of a higher profile pitcher. I would way rather take a stab at Maholm, who may still have some upside than a guy like Washburn.
  13. Maholm has shown some huge starts for a team that probably put up 3 runs of support on average from him. He was also very good last year indicating he wan't just lucky. Besides a couple of bad starts I believe the others were quality starts and this is a former first rounder with some upside still. DOB: 6/25/82
  14. Seems like he'd be a pretty good fit right now. Thoughts?
  15. Oh please let him string a couple of these days together. Three doubles too today!
  16. I wish! Adding Johnson and an upper-tier second-baseman would be really nice. But I don't see the Marlins trading Johnson. Right now Johnson is worth more than Escobar and Jeffress combined. Especially as Jeffress has been blowing chunks (walks) all season so far.
  17. As I am checking my afternoon Minor League Box Scores I again notice that Gamel goes 3-5 and is currently hitting around .500 for AAA-Nashville. I know we signed Prince for two years, but everyone and their mother knows that was a economic move to avoid a potentially expensive arbitration year. Gamel, who is not a relatively "young" prospect is now showing he can't be held back. His defense, however, does not seem to be improving. This leads me to believe that a move will happen around THIS YEARS all-star break. Gamel is almost certainly not going to stick at Third. Although the outfield is rumored, I don't see him sticking in left/right and really the future depends on how Lorenzo Cain develops and whether we'd have to try to move Hart to center. If we deal Fielder next offseason, or during the 2010 trade deadline, what happens to Gamel in the meantime. Also, next offseason is a particularly shallow pitching free-agent period I belueve, highlighted by John Lackey (if I remember correctly). The Brewers will certainly be looking for starting pitching in return for Fielder and I don't see them waiting until we have to deal Fielder (1.75 years away) to obtain some help there. So, I ask, do you agree that a deal will happen sooner or later and if you have any potential scenerios I would be interested. Thanks.
  18. Fine by me! Thank god I wont have to pray for a single through the right side all those times.....
  19. Duffy is good defensively but does not get to balls that Cameron is waiting for. Cameron is top three in the NL and takes better lines. I think they just need to let Cameron play.
  20. It's going to get weird around here if Hall actually has a good season.....
  21. I, for one, am not comfortable with a 6'6" hitter batting leadoff. If there's one thing that Weeks has shown is his ability to draw the walk.
  22. Sometimes I think that National Beat types like Rosenthal or Gammons make these picks to create discussion. Yo is my guy, but it couldn't have been is ST performance that Rosenthal is taking into account. This is the same thing as Gammons picking Kris Benson back in the day. I hope Yo does it though!
  23. I don't think any of them said Salome wasn't going to be an important part of the team, just that his defense needs improvement to be so. I was also surprised that no one said much about Caleb Gindl. I think Gindl could certainly establish himself as a mainstream prospect. His bat has played well. It also may be me, but I have a hunch we'll start to see more "Let's move Brent Brewer to second" sentiments toward the middle of the year. Even if Lawrie has set that pace....
  24. Braun yanked in the first after the ball hit his thumb on a fly ball that ultimately led to an error. HoLD your breath as they are taking X-Rays.
