  1. Are they really saying that Tyrone Taylor who as quoted in the full scouting report as "not a burner" is going to push an all-world CF like Gomez over to RF? I don't see that happening. They must not think a ton of Medeiros, either.
  2. Last season the 1st hitter had 743 PA for the Brewers. The 8th hitter had 614. Do you really want to pinch hit Segura for every single other hitter in the lineup 18 times each? Would you rather have the only hitter who doesn't strike out on our team besides Lucroy hit eighth the entire season and see a fastball one in every ten pitches? I like your calculation to make your point, but now calculate how much the current-leadoff scenario strikes out in there....
  3. Agreed. There are absolutely ridiculous statements being made in this thread. It shall now be known as the Clown-Thread. Arguing that Bryce Harper for Carlos Gomez is a realistic idea at this point is like arguing with that uncle you have that keeps saying stuff like, "Well, why don't the Brewers just get that guy Bumgarner."
  4. Things I've noticed in this thread: 1. Some people are looking for moves to be made simply for moves to be made 2. Some in this thread are completely unrealistic about the Brewers payroll forgetting that we're already overextended for our market size, cable television contracts, etc - I would count my lucky stars that our payroll is at THIS level 3. Some are comparing our lack of moves this offseason to teams making moves which are supported by cities with millions of people (Please, don't compare us to Houston - its a way different game taking on risk for them than it is with us) 4. I think people automatically assume that players WANT to play here when in actuality that's probably a pretty tough-sell to a player who's seen other markets 5. Many are using hyperbole and a complete lack of fact and statistics to make their claims 6. Most completely discount the fact that the Brewers WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO CONTEND LAST SEASON and COULD VERY WELL BE A BETTER TEAM THIS SEASON Stop freaking out people.
  5. Yes, saw this on Twitter just now. Doug's had a couple rough winter-meeting weeks the last couple of years!
  6. What would we have to give up to get Zimmerman and Ian Desmond away from Washington? Gallardo or Lohse/Segura/??/?? I'm guessing that would take Gallardo AND Lohse AND Segura AND another.
  7. I still think Middlebrooks and another for a Brewers SP makes a ton of sense.
  8. No, just no. I appreciate the passion, but no. We're not even sure the guy can start at SS on a consistent basis at double-A where he hasn't had an AB yet. A move like this would make the Brewers organization look foolish to the rest of the league and has about a .01% chance of success (and I'm not being hyperbolic).
  9. This type of money being spent on a relief pitcher makes me cringe.
  10. I've seen this thing being posted on social media. I don't mean to sound like a curmudgeon, but I want nothing to do with what's sure to be a totally biased poll which in the end is just going to make me mad. That being said, if we come in first, someone let me know.
  11. My fear right now is that Braun's thumb feels 100% now, and 90% in May, and 80% in June, and.....
  12. What's the probably that the Brewers go Catcher in the first round at this point as Coulter has moved off the position and Luc is really only signed through 2017? Although I would prefer us to continually grab pitching I would think this has to be an area of concern in the system right now.
  13. Personally, I just want to reiterate my preference to hit Segura leadoff. The guy will see much better pitches than hitting eighth.
  14. Am I reading this correctly? To be honest, I don't know how Kyle Schwarber is rated that LOW. The guy had an ops of over 1.00 and didn't look outmatched at high-A. I hate the Schlubs as much as the next BF but Schwarber's bat rates above Stephen Piscotty by a wide margin to me. This will be interesting to see how they reconcile this later on as I would bet good money Kyle Schwarber is a top 75 prospect when the master list comes out. Frankly, I don't see either Arcia or Taylor anywhere near there.
  15. I dream of a time where the mainstream stops referring to the Gold Glove at all. Congrats to Jon!
  16. We DO have enough of these guys. Khris Davis played in 144 games last season putting up a 2.1 WAR to Lind's 1.9 in 96 games. He provides you a better approach, and his numbers are probably favored to increase playing 81 at Miller Park.
  17. Agreed! I don't care if Lind has under 10 HR's. It's his K/BB and OBP that I'm looking at. I find it weird that a ton of the Brewers fanbase will complain about being too HR-reliant and then complain about a players potential power. We want to move in this direction...... I'm excited and it's a small-market-friendly contract. Signing LaRoche, would have been much riskier had he failed it may have ruined us for three years. This way, Lind doesn't perform? We look elsewhere next year.
  18. Breen's piece (ironic) on Lind from RotoGraphs in 2013: http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/patience-pays-off-for-adam-lind-kinda/
  19. This is an incredibly savvy move by Melvin in my opinion.
  20. Somewhere in the back of my head I could see the Red Sox offer up Bradley/Middlebrooks and a pitcher for Gomez.
  21. As much as I am FOR a Gomez deal it would have to bring someone at the major-league level I would think. I just can't see Mark A. giving Roenicke one virtual-last shot and then selling off his players. To me the Roenicke decision guarantees we're not in a conventional rebuilding mode at the moment. Disclaimer: Personally, I would prefer a Gomez deal that brought us controllable young talent back. This is just what I think will happen instead.
  22. One wouldn't argue that "that's fundamentals." That IS fundamentals. I for one would welcome a shift away from the HR to a more traditional NL-style club. From what I've read today he also had the utmost respect from his players during his long tenure.
  23. League reactions to Gardenhire's dismissal: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/09/reactions-to-and-fallout-from-ron-gardenhires-dismissal.html The article notes that Molitor would "possibly" have an interest in the Twins job. "Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports feels that Gardenhire should’ve been given a chance to oversee the next wave of young talent in the Twins organization, but he’s not surprised to see the team seek a new voice following another 90-loss season. He notes that Gardenhire could immediately pursue another managerial job, with current openings with the D’Backs, Rangers and Astros. He also notes that it’s possible the Brewers will fire Ron Roenicke, so Gardenhire could fit there also."
  24. If Roenicke does go, which I believe to be likely, there certainly are a couple of very intriguing candidates out there. Ron Washington is out there as well. Frankly, I wouldn't be totally disappointed with Gardy or Wash and see how they do.
  25. Could it be? Your 2015 Brewers Manager? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/09/twins-fire-ron-gardenhire.html
