  1. Looks like Feliz has found a new home... http://www.foxsports.com/kansas-city/story/kansas-city-royals-sign-former-milwaukee-brewers-closer-neftali-feliz-dfa-chris-young-062317
  2. I have no idea if this is the right place for this, please move/remove this if it shouldn’t be here. There have to be enough regulars on this board who will be going to the TRats this weekend to watch Braun/Villar. Is there any chance we can get some volunteers to videotape their at bats each day so we all can see the approach/swings, etc? Is that a weird request? I’m extremely interested in how Villar handles his return against his early season struggles/Sogard’s grip on the 2nd base job. I really only see two avenues 1) Villar accepts the challenge and battles every at bat, swings at good pitches, focuses on the base paths, and wins his job back or 2) Tries to do way too much and swings at everything trying to hit a 600 ft home run every time. I’m going to try to get to the 2nd game of the DH tonight if I can … anyone else going that could tape and allow us to do some scout work?
  3. Are Belonis and Wilson just guys or is there reason to go watch them in Appleton?
  4. Someone pulled up the stats and Knebel throw the second most pitches for a closer. Not saying 18 is terrible, but it is up there for an ever age. Yum was the worst. Not only did he swing first pitch, but he popped it up what felt like once a game at least.[/quote I pulled those stats. I only took the top 8 closers in terms of saves … I didn’t look at the other 20+ guys. I don’t care to do the math on everyone else but I’m guessing Knebel is middle of the pack if not slightly above average if compared to every closer.
  5. A very costly thing he does often. It doesn't show up in value based stats, but such short ABs really hurt the team. Someone else in recent memory was prone to short ABs too. Someone mentioned in another thread the high pitch counts Knebel racks up and that is another costly thing that many don't notice. If it costs him a few outings every month that can translate into an extra loss or more because someone lesser has to pitch because he needs rest. That or he gets fatigued and pitches worse. I remember Yuni never seeing a lot of pitches. Also, I don't buy the Knebel thing. He is averaging less than 18 pitches per inning.
  6. Just opened the box score to see that Sogard is being Sogard, Shaw went deep and Nova is at 44 pitches through 2. Not a bad start. How many at bats does one need to be considered for the batting title?
  7. What would you have said on opening day if I told you that by June 22nd … Braun had spent over a month on the DL, Villar had slumped so badly that he had been replaced by a castoff that hadn’t been in the majors in 2 years, Feliz was released due to terrible baseball syndrome, Guerra would get hurt that day and miss 6 weeks, Davies ERA would be north of 5, and Peralta would be removed from the rotation due to Neftali Feliz syndrome… What odds would I have had to give you for you to place money that we would be a first place ballclub?
  8. Not to be snarky but… Broxton currently has a 7 game hit streak. In his last 10 games he is .333 (9-27) with a .400 OBP, 4 HRs, 11 RBIs. Brinson, meanwhile, has been outhit by Nick Franklin since he has been here. I’m guessing those are two of the reasons. I know we need to give Brinson his chances to figure things out … but we are also a first place team closing out June and need to win games. Broxton (surprise!) still doesn’t have 162 career games under his belt … so as much as we need to give Brinson a chance, we need to do the same with Broxton. Still a possibility that Keon is our CF of the future and not Brinson.
  9. I don’t know that I would call him inefficient. He is missing a lot of bats, more so than other top closers in the league. His pitches per inning (ppi) is on the higher end of the saves leaders in baseball, but the difference isn’t terribly drastic: Rodney – 17.9 ppi Knebel – 17.8 ppi Kintzler – 16.1 ppi Kimbrel – 15.8 ppi Colome – 14.8 ppi Holland – 14.74 ppi Jansen – 14.45 ppi Osuna – 13.89 ppi But he also is striking a lot more guys out … almost at a Craig Kimbrel level, per the topic of this thread. (Ks per inning -> kpi) Kimbrel – 1.89 kpi Knebel – 1.77 kpi Jansen – 1.71 kpi Holland – 1.32 kpi Osuna – 1.27 kpi Rodney – 1.18 kpi Colome - .93 kpi Kintzler – .67 kpi If pitching to contact is going to save him only two pitches per inning, I’d rather he keep doing what is making him elite and missing bats and I’d be hard pressed to call it a deficiency.
  10. I am abnormally excited to have 2 LHP options in the bullpen. Without any stats to back this up, I would assume our bullpen gets 15% better simply by NOT having to throw Drake and Torres out there against a left handed lineup.
  11. For starters, the elevation in Fresno is 308' as opposed to 6,035' in Colorado Springs. Our pitcher's confidence won't be shattered in Fresno for artificial reasons...
  12. The anti-Tim Tebow movement is crazy to me. I get that Charleston was messing around. But if you read the message boards on this story posted anywhere there is still a lot of hostility towards Tebow (probably mainly because he continues to get a crazy amount of coverage). HOWEVER, I was in Columbia, SC a few weeks back and stopped in for a double header at Spirit Communications Park to watch Tebow play. Does he look stiff in the box? Yep. Does he take crazy routes to baseballs in left field? Yep. Is he going to make the Majors someday? Very likely no. But I will tell you two things… Tebow probably signed autographs for a combined 35-40 minutes surrounding the two games while his teammates signed 5-10 autographs each? Tebow took pictures with basically everyone that asked. He was also bombarded CONSTANTLY with little kids screaming his name while he was in the field and whenever there was an extended break in action he would acknowledge/wave to the kids which would send them into hysterics back to their parents. I really tried to think cynically about his attitude/demeanor that day and try to convince myself he is doing this for the attention and to stay in the headlines but I just couldn’t do it. He is an ESPN personality … if he wanted to stay in the limelight there are 300 different ways he could do it better than play minor league baseball. I think he is just a genuinely good person and is taking advantage of opportunities where they are falling. Hard for me to be mad at him.
  13. I don’t get the Franklin stuff anymore. He is never going to play the infield again .. so why not just replace him with Kyle Wren? The 4th OF job is what Kyle Wren is going to do in the future… just do it now?
  14. It hurts my brain a bit that Chris Bosio has the 2nd best WAR season by a RHP in our history. Come on guys!
  15. I have no idea why this question just popped into my head as we struggle daily to find a preferred batting order... If you had your pick of Brewers over the last 30 years to start today.. what does your lineup look like? Does Hamilton lead off against the righty? Is it still Molitor? Does Yount bat #2? #5? What platoon lefties did we have that crushed RHP but couldn't play full time because they couldn't hit lefties? What is our optimal lineup against righties in this scenario? Obvious guys like Braun and Fielder are in this lineup but I'm looking for some non obvious guys that smoked RHP that I may have forgotten about...
  16. Wasn't Cole at the center of the Gomez thing a few years back?
  17. The ERAs of the 3 starters the Pirates are throwing in this series are 4.54, 5.61, and 5.16 respectively. I’m not suggesting anything… but let’s go boys.
  18. He finished tied for 40th on the Brewers all time saves list, one ahead of Graeme Lloyd and a few others. Can’t tell if that stat makes me happy or sad. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/stats/sortable.jsp?c_id=mil#sortColumn=sv&sectionType=sp&playerType=ALL&statType=pitching&season=2017&season_type=ALL&game_type='R'&elem=%5Bobject+Object%5D&tab_level=child&click_text=Sortable+Player+pitching&league_code='MLB'&page=1&ts=1497903139565
  19. Jeffress, JeffRESS, JEFFRESS...
  20. Sogard by himself won't bring much back I would imagine ... I could see him being a nice sprinkle on a different deal though as an add on. If some team wants Guerra, they could take Sogard in the deal too and it would increase the value of that package. However, if we are contending Sogard needs to stay. Whatever pixie dust he has found in Milwaukee is a huge benefit right now.
