    Nice to see Braun back. Nice to see Braun on base. Nice to see the Brewers' offense look like the Brewers' offense that bashed the first 4 weeks. Travis Shaw immediately delivers against his formers. Also, Eric Thames is good.

    I agree that Wily would be too expensive as a middle reliever, but what if he was a closer? Teams pay closers well. Peralta moves to the pen and gets comfortable in June, and then takes over the closer rolls after Feliz is dealt. 2 months of closing seemed to add a lot of value to Thornburg, I think it could make Peralta a somewhat of a valued trade peice too. I do think Wily would be a lights out reliever. I've always thought Wily would be a good closer option but it never made sense to give him that audition given our options the last few years. Once Feliz is dealt I wouldn't hate the thought..

    I agree. A million dollars is a lot of money. In terms of team salary it might be a drop in the bucket ... but maybe Mark A. can greenlight another upgrade at Miller Park because of the gift the Mets just gave us. Improving the ballpark with the million will help this franchise/city long term more so than if Milone pitched in our minor league system for 4 more months. Great day!

    I am kind of in this boat as well. If someone takes part of his salary from us mid summer when it is time to start looking at some of our AAA guys ... that would be a blessing.

    If they were going to walk Harrison, they should've walked Bell too. He's been hot. That would've been the correct move, no?

    This is old news at this point but did anyone else question why Harrison wasn't walked to set up the double play at the end? As he was stepping up to the plate I told my sister "Hey, have you seen the new intentional walk rule .. check this, they will walk him here." Then watched a first pitch walk off...

    Perhaps Sterns needed to wait to see where and how the PTBN would slot into the organization. Given the timing, I have to think that the Victor Roache trade was in part to open up a minor league roster spot for whoever the Brewers pick, with it being a position player at AA or below. That's a great point. My first thought when Roache was traded was that Monte Harrison was going to get bumped and push the line up one but this could be a better reason..

    If he keeps pitching they way he has, someone will offer something reasonable for half a year of Garza. Agreed. For the next 8 weeks my two favorite players are Matt Garza and Neftali Feliz. I'll be pulling hard for them to perform.

    Not really at all. He would still be our closer but when he hasn't pitched in 2 or 3 games and we are down 8-1 to someone ... slipping him the 7th inning against the bottom of an order isn't removing him from that closer's role, it is just adding an inning to his total.

    So I will start this out by acknowledging this might be the most asinine thing you hear today, but I wanted to hear a few viewpoints and discussion around the idea. We signed Feliz to be our closer … but also because he could be a good to possibly great trade chip this summer if he performs. So my question revolves around doing what is best to maximize his 2017 resume leading into trade season. There are two parts to this question. First, a team will only trade for a bullpen arm/closer if they think he is effective. What is effective? Obviously getting guys out, striking guys out, pitch velocity, pitch movement, etc.. but are MLB GM’s/scouts beyond digging deep into an ERA or exactly WHO that pitcher is striking out and when? The reason I ask that is to set up this part .. given Feliz’ start, would it benefit the Brewers to ‘cherry pick’ a few spots in games where we can get Feliz an inning against the 6-7-8 of a lineup and theoretically an easy inning, to pad his numbers a little? If his ERA at the all-star break will hypothetically be north of 4 with ~35 innings pitched.. wouldn't it be very beneficial if the Brewers can slip in an extra 7-9 innings of 3 h, 1 r, 10 k or something to pad those numbers .. could that be the deciding factor in a trade being made? Most of your baseball minds are better than mine is. I just wanted to hear your thoughts on the idea.

    I live a few minutes from the TRats stadium and go to a bunch of games every year. Am I wasting my time if I were to take video of a few of the higher prospects on the team for you all to watch? I always like seeing footage of guys throwing, batting, etc from places/teams that don’t get as much video availability. Is that valuable to any of you or would I be wasting my time?

    Likely, however if we were at home it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Derrick Turnbow was announced as a surprise first pitch replacement.

    A lot of great stories to start the season. Obviously Thames, Chase Anderson, Manny Pina both offensively but probably more importantly handling the staff/calling games, the Wily Peralta we have been hoping for, already looking like we have a 7th and 8th inning guy, the Feliz experiment looks (fingers crossed) like it will pay off at the trade deadline, etc. Lot to be thankful for to start this year. Really fun team to watch right now. Kudos Stearns.

    ...and what is the point of getting rid of Scooter, then adding another one? Who knows. This is a move for making a move sake. The Brewer problems are defense and pitching; two areas this guy won't help. Though he did actually pitch an inning at some point. It doesn’t matter and it is not worth fighting about, but I always smile at the thought process of some fans. “The Brewers need pitching and defense and he helps neither so this is a terrible move.” (paraphrasing) Packers fans are notorious (I am a GBP fan FWIW) for this … we sign Martellus Bennett and there is a contingent that gets upset “How is this going to help our pass defense?!” I half expect some fans to go crazy if the Brewers announce they are going to repaint the dugouts a lighter shade of blue because “How is that going to help our base running mistakes?!? Terrible decision!!” Stearns’ job (I’m generalizing) is to try to improve all aspects of the organization from a talent perspective, top to very bottom. Why get salty because the move he just made isn’t acquiring Clayton Kershaw? I'm not necessarily directing this at the quoted poster.. just the thought process in general.

    This is part of the process of simply giving guys a chance. Villar, Perez, Broxton, Pina, Guerra, etc. - good so far. Other guys were mediocre or outright awful. The nice thing is that we found quite a few keepers from the bargain bin. That's part of building the team into a winner. Of course, that means hundreds of ABs from Flores and Walsh and guys like that. But that's life. You don't win them all. I think we'll have a lot more of that this year - not as much - but still a lot of it. It's likely we'll actually see more sub .700 at bats this year than last. I checked the past ten years, last year we had 1,307 at bats by players with sub .700 OPS. That was actually the fewest in that entire span. We average 1,756 at bats by sub .700 OPS players each year, including an incredible 2,538 at bats in 2015 alone. Even in our playoff seasons of '11 and '08 we had 2,071 at bats and 1,692 at bats respectively by players with sub .700 OPS. It's easy to think that's a pretty low threshold and not expect new players to hit that low or for returning players not to repeat, but it apparently happens every year and a lot. Yunnnniiiiiiiiii!!! Sorry, anytime I get to mention his name I'm jumping on it.

    As an Appleton native ... should I be getting my hopes up of Diaz starting the year here or will he be shipped right to High A?
