  1. The only thing that could have made that stat better was if Nelson was the only one with an at bat.
  2. Beat DeGrom. Beat Wheeler. Might as well knock off Kershaw, right?
  3. Not that I want to trade him ... but Knebel might have sneaky good trade value at the break.
  4. So this Sogard thing is starting to make me curious. I know guys go on hot streaks … but his first 50 at bats here with the club he has been on base just under 60% of the time and he was hitting really well in AAA before the call up … so this is now 2+ months of great production (with the caveat of the beginning being in AAA). Can anyone think of another example of someone putting together a full season of all-star level production, after age 30, for the first time, after over 1,000 at bats of sub-par offense before? Another way of asking that … someone give me an example of another big leaguer doing this to make me believe he can sustain this for the full season and beyond…
  5. That’s about as left handed as we can get. Really pleased to see Sogard back in there, he deserves 20+ at bats a week right now. Had I told you when the season started that Guerra would leave his first start and miss 2 months, that Wily Peralta would pitch his way out of the rotation, that Feliz would pitch his way out of the closer’s role, that Braun would have 2 stints on the DL and that Villar would start the season in a 2 month slump… what odds would you have given me that we would be leading the division on June 1st? Baseball is a weird game… Let’s get back on a little streak here boys..
  6. I understand that Villar needs to have his ABs to work through this because he has claim to 2nd base for the immediate future. I also know Sogard has a LOT of MLB PAs that say he will come back down to earth... but I just can't see any reason why he isn't starting 5 out of 6 games right now until he cools off. All he does it get on base. We need Villar to have success in the lead off spot ... but isn't it equally important to get Thames, Shaw, etc at bats with runners on consistently? Sogard is the guy for that right now... *post edit: I typed this up and posted before reading the prior two posts.. sorry for being repetitive
  7. I think Brett Phillips laugh is exactly what this team needs to loosen up a little bit… (conjecture)
  8. Not really buying Counsell's explanation much. He had a full 10 days rest to cover, returned for one day, got another day off on Monday, played 1 more game, and now needs another off? How much time off does this guy need on top of what he's already sitting for injuries? Won't sugarcoat it, very frustrated with this guy, his inability to stay healthy is hurting this offense badly, and if it's this bad at 33 I hate to see what it'll be like at 35-36. I'd check the numbers. When he was on the DL the offense thrived.
  9. My thoughts are that Attanasio would be a fool to go start telling Stearns what to do with the ballclub. Other than a Prince/Braun/Gallardo run a few years back we are currently in the best position we have been in as a team, in nearly 3 decades. Furthermore, the team salary is 50-60% of what it was when we made that run years ago. Mark A is making great money, fans interest in the team is on the rise, and the valuation of his investment is clearly ticking up. He made a great decision in bringing in Stearns. Sit back and let the man work. This is kind of crazy conjecture if you ask me.
  10. I'm of the understanding the Brewers have had limited off days up to this point in the season so the extra arm in the pen is necessary to help alleviate stress. Once we hit mid June I think our off days will come back to normal and I'm expecting an extra bat to come up to provide more match up options at the plate offensively late. Can anyone confirm that?
  11. Jhan Marinez claimed by Pittsburgh. No longer a recall option, not that I think he was in queue anymore at this point.
  12. Do you think the Brewers will option Arcia in favor of Sogard?! I need to double quote this to emphasize it. I know you are just creating conversation ... but optioning Arcia to keep Sogard is stuff of soon to be fired GMs. Sogard and Nick Franklin are the same player. One of them can go and given Sogard's revival it will be Franklin.
  13. Why do hitters in situations like this even bother to swing when the pitcher can't find the strike zone to save his life? Because it goes both ways. A pitcher who is struggling to hit corners and walks a few guys can think the batter might be in that exact thought process.. so the first pitch very well might be a "get me over" strike. If that is the case you just let a batting practice fastball go down the middle when it should be bouncing off a outfield wall somewhere and we should have two more runs. The other thing I will say is that it is always easy to notice when it doesn't work "Why was he swinging?!" .. and not notice when it works. Had Sogard smashed a 2 RBI single right there the box score would have shown a single with 2 RBI and we would have been praising Sogard for keeping his hot streak going ... but no one would mention the awareness Sogard had to hijack a struggling pitcher who was trying to steal a strike to get some momentum. For the record, I actually agree with you in that I wouldn't have swung... but when you are swinging as well as Sogard is I just shrug and say "that's too bad" that it didn't work out.
  14. They just said on the radio that if the game is called all stats will count. So Eric's single and the double error cetera. They also said under these conditions that Paolo would be credited with the win and Rob would get a save. I would like to know rules on that one..
  15. Rain delay talk .. the Pirates just claimed Jhan Marinez off of waivers from MKE per multiple Twitter handles. Best of luck to you young man!
  16. Almost all of Broxton's value comes from his defense. I'm not sure what you are talking about... is this just based on your eye test?
  17. I think Sogard’s OBP might be over 1.000 .. I know that isn’t possible. I know it. But I think it might be true. I need to redo the math… I don’t think he has gotten out since 2015.
  18. Butler's lack of control is making me a bit nervous though. How are game conditions? 40 pitches and only 18 strikes is pretty alarming? He had a 3 ball count on 5 of the 7 hitters he faced and at least a 2 ball count on all of them. I hope Espino can get a decent grip on the ball.
  19. The Cubs don't play night games at home anymore. No snafu, just bad luck.
  20. Well that answers the question if Sogard can handle left. Poor Franklin.
  21. The crash is coming and I get the general point of your post... but until further notice Sogard should be playing over everybody.
  22. This is crazy.. what an at bat. Down 0-2. Stretches it to 12 pitches then gives us the lead. When did we get Tony Gwynn?
