  1. With the amount of money that is coming in from the new TV deal this shouldn’t be a problem.
  2. Need to keep Lopez off of Horford. Lopez is just not fast enough to cover the paint and get back on Horford at the line.
  3. I disagree while Cain’s numbers now are bad teams definitely have players who are below average on offense in their team and are serious World Series contenders. Orlando Arica was on the Braves WS roster I believe. I don’t believe the Brewers have the prospects to get a Mullins/Reynolds/Laureano. If you want one of those three be prepared to empty the farm for them. I just don’t see that as being a good idea. Laureano maybe the more realistic option but that is still Frelick, Mitchell, Small and a lottery ticket. The Brewers top prospects are just not worth as much as some are thinking they are worth. Even Wiemer is on the low end. The Brewers have a bunch of $20m surplus value players but three or four of them would need to be able included to make some of these trades work. That is why Cain and Taylor are fine in CF. The better return would be to go after a Bell or J.D. Martinez type. Chasing after one elite player is just a recipe for disaster. I would rather just part with lower end prospects and get a rental like Martinez or Bell or both.
  4. Hiura in a trade to the Nationals for Bell wouldn't surprise me in the least. I don't think it would be Hiura for Bell but Hiura would be in the trade package going back to the Nationals or Kemp for Hiura+ from the A's.
  5. I think the Brewers will also not sacrifice defense especially in CF where it is extremely important for the Brewers. In LF you have a below average to average LF in Yelich and in RF you have an average to above average in Renfroe. The Brewers really need a good defensive CF to cover ground that Yelich and Renfroe are not able to cover. This is probably why Cain is still getting starts in CF because of his top notch defense in CF. I am not sure how well Turang grades out in CF but Frelick and Mitchell have looked adequate in CF. Both Frelick and Mitchell are not at the level of Cain in CF though there are very few players who are that elite in CF defensively. Preferably in the OF it should be LF Renfroe, RF Taylor and then Mitchell/Frelick in CF. That gives the Brewers the best OF defense and offensively there is not much of a difference than what is there now. I think the Brewers just ride with Cain and give Taylor more starts in CF. I just don't see a trade out there that makes sense. The Brewers would have to include a lot to get someone that is going to be a significant upgrade.
  6. The Brewers will trade Hiura before they non-tender him. I wouldn't be surprised if he is traded during the deadline this year or even before that. There are plenty of teams that will take on an Arb-1 player as a DH. I wouldn't be surprised if that team is the Nationals or A's.
  7. I think Horst is going to be fined with his comments about the officiating.
  8. I don't see the A's trading Laureano as he would be at his lowest value. That is just not something the A's do even if they are cutting costs. If the A's trade Laureano it won't be during the season it will be during the off season. I just don't see the A's selling low on someone like Laureano who hasn't even played a game yet this year.
  9. The last Spider-Man and the new Doctor Strange movie are basically setting up the next phase for Marvel.
  10. The Bucks need to have Lopez off of Horford. Defensively the Bucks have to rotate way too much when Lopez is guarding Horford because Lopez can't get back to Horford fast enough when he is sitting on the 3-pt line. The Bucks also need to pick Horford more so he is not switching and defending Giannis. Whenever Horford is on Giannis, Giannis is having a hard time scoring as Horford can match him inside the paint when Giannis goes for the power moves. Whenever Giannis is scoring in the paint it is when Horford is not near or around Giannis. Williams is not strong enough to guard Giannis but can make an occasional stop or two against Giannis but Giannis is winning that matchup the majority of the time. I think the Bucks need to go back to screening for Giannis with Lopez when Horford is guarding Giannis.
  11. Similar to last year I think whoever wins this series wins the East. Nothing against Miami but I don't think they are as good as their record says they are.
  12. I don't see why the Orioles would want to trade Mullins if his value is low. It will cost a lot to get Mullins I just don't see the Orioles coming down from the price he was at before this season. The premium for Mullins is going to be extremely high and I just don't see why the Brewers would want to pay for that.
  13. Not even close enough for Mullins. You are about $40m short in surplus value for Mullins. Lets say the values for Mitchell and Small are a more than what they are now but even with an increase there you are still about $20m short. If it is $20m that needs to be filled then Frelick, Mitchell and Small would be the price for Mullins. I don't see that happening and I don't see the Orioles trading Mullins for anything less either. It will cost a lot to get Mullins a lot more than what your trade is at right now.
  14. If the Brewers do trade a starter it will probably be this off season and it maybe perfect timing. The Tigers and the Rangers went on spending spree this off season and both need starting pitching especially the Rangers. Will the Rangers give up their top prospects for Woodruff or Burnes? I am not sure they will but I have already posted what I think a Rangers and Brewers trade would look like for Woodruff. I don't believe the Rangers have the prospects to get Burnes. I wouldn't be surprised if the Brewers trade Houser. I still believe Houser is a solid #3 or #4 pitcher. I think a trade to the Angels or Mariners makes the most sense here. The ballparks play into what Houser is as a pitcher and both teams need to fill in the middle of their rotation. The Brewers won't get back as good of a return for Houser but someone like a Gallo (value wise) should be coming back in the trade.
  15. The production in CF is fine especially as your 8th or 9th hitter. I don't believe there is anyone out there that will significantly improve the production that the Brewers are currently getting in CF. I think the best the Brewers can do is add to the bench as the trade market looks rather weak. Possibly improve the bench against RHP and LHP is really the only option out there. Bell has started out hot but has cooled down a bit since his hot start as to be expected. Bell or J.D. Martinez would be good adds to help secure some punch in the lineup. I think Stearns would prefer Bell as he can play multiple positions 1B, DH and some OF. Actually I think Bell will be Stearns #1 target this trade deadline. If Tellez cools off or is not as good against LHP as he has been Bell wouldn't be a bad add as he can platoon with both McCutchen and Tellez if needed and give Yelich a day off in the OF if needed also. I think Gray and a lottery ticket or even Hiura and a lottery ticket would be more than enough to get Bell from the Nationals.
  16. Way to early. When I lived in Milwaukee I wouldn't even be able to get to the game on time let alone go home and get changed after work and then get to the game. Plus anyone from out of town wouldn't even be able to make it. If your goal is to reduce the amount of people in attendance this would be a good way to go about it.
  17. I think that is too much for Bell. I think Gray and Brown for Bell would be more than enough.
  18. I still believe MLB missed an opportunity when the Marlins were sold to move the Rays to Miami and then move the Marlins to another city. I know MLB wanted to keep two teams in Florida but as of right now it looks like the Rays will be moving out of Florida as they are not going to get a new stadium. The Rays in Miami would just be a better franchise for that city than the Marlins.
  19. Definitely missed Middleton in this game.
  20. So lets go back in time a little bit it is 2008 and the Brewers are a competitive team but they need a 3B!!!!!! Unfortunately according to rickh150 if the Brewers would have started with Ryan Braun at 3B that year the Brewers wouldn't have been serious about competing because Braun was a rookie. If there is a rookie on the team then that team is not serious about competing by rickh150's definition. Coming back to current times the Mariners are trying to compete and have a rookie in the OF. But according to rickh150 they are not really serious about contending because of a rookie in the OF. Also the Angels in 2018 were not serious about competing because Ohtani was a rookie that year. Also the Astros this year are not serious about competing because they have a rookie starting at SS. Nope the Astros are not serious about competing this year because Jeremy Pena a rookie is playing the majority of the games at SS. Sorry Astros and Mariners fans but your teams are not seriously competing this year because of a rookie.

  22. It looks like the BIG Ten is getting ready to sign a new media deal that will pay them up to $1 billion per season. That is not a typo. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/big-ten-aims-to-have-new-media-rights-deal-worth-up-to-1-billion-in-place-around-memorial-day/#:~:text=Bowl Schedule-,Big Ten aims to have new media rights deal%2C worth,in place around Memorial Day&text=SCOTTSDALE%2C Ariz.,told CBS Sports on Monday. According to the article above that is about $71 million per school. I think that can cover any sports budget for the Badgers. Even with the new deal for the Brewers I think that maybe more than what the Brewers are bringing in per season on their new TV deal.
  23. Teams compete every year with rookies on the roster. I don't see an issue with relying on one or two in the lineup and competing. Heck Woodruff and Burnes were rookies during the 2018 team I guess the Brewers were really not competing then. They must have been wearing the wrong baseball hats I guess.
  24. Also drafting a player who doesn't fit into a 3-4 defense or your blocking scheme is just a recipe for disaster. The players you draft have to fit into what you are trying to do as a team. If they don't fit then it is just a wasted pick. There maybe players who are available at the same time you are drafting someone who is better than you are drafting but they don't fit into the team. There are some players that it just doesn't matter and their athletic ability can overcome the scheme the team is using but those players are normally 1st round selections not 3rd, 4th or 5th round selections. Take Tarik Cohen for example a perfect fit for an offense like Andy Reed's. He is a RB who can run a little bit but is better out of the backfield catching. If you have a run first offense a talent like that would be wasted on that team especially if you are not throwing to your RB's and you want them to block. The offensive threat of the RB is now just there as a PR or KR and the occasional breakout run plays. Players have to fit into the system or scheme that the team is running. If they don't then that is a wasted pick especially late in the rounds where you are picking players specifically to fit into your teams system or scheme. Any player after the 3rd round are basically system or scheme players unless someone drops that would have been available in the 2nd or 3rd round.
  25. There was definitely a gap between Gallardo to Nelson and an even bigger one between Sheets to Gallardo though some of that was due to injuries. Then a small gap between Nelson and Woodruff. I think the philosophy changed a bit after Melvin left and Stearns took over. I think the Brewers during Melvin's tenure looked at taller and bigger fastball pitchers and Stearns looks more for guys who already have command and who could possibly add some MPH and spin rate to their pitches. Also apparently the old saying of you can't teach power for pitchers was wrong. A lot of the players Stearns has drafted have either added MPH or have added spin rates which makes the pitches look faster than they are. The only downside currently to Stearns is the lack of international pitching prospects but that looks to be improving now also.
