  1. That sounds like below slot value? Haven't looked at anything for 2nd round picks and their slot values but that looks a little bit low?
  2. I agree that it significantly played a part. Especially if we end up not receiving anything for him. If we can't trade him this year, what is the chances he is a type A? There are no longer Type A or Type B free agents only players who are offered a qualifying offer and those who are not offered a qualifying offer.
  3. Not really thrilled with this pick but it may just be a money saving pick by the Brewers here. He is definitely going to be a bullpen arm if he even makes it to the majors that is.
  4. I would rather see the Brewers take Ward or Puk but I think both would be impossible signs right now. I believe they both will go to college and up their stock so they can be taken in the 1st round. Nate why do you like Puk so much? Just the big body LHP thing? He's already 220 lbs at 6'7" is it certain he'll add more velocity? I'm sincerely curious. Colby can correct me on this but what sold me on Puk was someone at PG comparing him to Sabathia. Puk should add some more velocity and will then sit in the mid 90's. He should also become a 200+ IP a year pitcher. He is going to be workhorse like Sabathia. You just don't find that many pitchers like a Sabathia any more. I believe this is just his 2nd year focusing on basedball as he gave up football last year. If he doesnt make it as a pitcher you are looking at an Adam Dunn like player at the plate. There is a lot to like about him.
  5. I would rather see the Brewers take Ward or Puk but I think both would be impossible signs right now. I believe they both will go to college and up their stock so they can be taken in the 1st round.
  6. Manaea might drop to the 2nd round due to injury concerns. I would definitely look at taking him with the Brewers pick in the 2nd round.
  7. Nate, apparently the Royals front office liked him also. Dozier went with the #8 pick, first big surprise of the draft. That was an extreme reach by the Royals and I am not sure why they took him there.
  8. A player to watch for would be Hunter Dozier SS from Stephen F. Austin State (that almost sounds like a made up school). He will probably end up being a 2B as he doesn't have the athleticism to stick at SS but he does have a good arm. He can hit very well for a SS or a 2B but I am not sold on him being able to hit enough to be a regular at 3B. I think his stock will slip enough that he will be around for the Brewers to take him or he will be gone just before the Brewers pick. Another player to look out for is Cody Reed LHP Northwest Mississippi JC. He has a low to mid 90's FB which is where he will stay at. He has some control problems but I believe he can get over that. He projects to be at a best case scenario to be a top of the rotation starter but will probably be more along the lines of a #2 or a #3 with a floor of being a solid contributor in the bullpen.
  9. I wonder if Travis Demeritte will fall to the Brewers at the 54th pick. Another HS SS who is probably more of a 3B than he is a SS but he can hit for power and has an absolute cannon for an arm. I believe he was clocked in the low 90's throwing from the mound. He definitely has the arm to play either 3B,SS, or a corner OF spot I believe he is athletic enough to be a SS I just don't think he will translate all that well as a SS once he fills out. He could be another Tulowitzki but I doubt he will ever become as good as him but 3B is definitely not out of the question. I have fallen in love with him and Puk but I think Puk has shot up enough charts where he will be taken before the Brewers pick.
  10. As someone has already alluded to about the books is really why I don't like her.
  11. I don't believe it is the GM that is trading away the veteran player that is hesitant in trading within the division it is the acquiring GM that is hesitant. Are you willing to give up a prospect or two to your rival that is going to hurt you in the future? I don't believe the other GM is going to want to or even offer one of their best prospects to a team within their division.
  12. Yes especially Ramirez as there doesn't seem to be that many bats that will be available to trade for. Even if the Brewers have to take on some of Ramirez salary for next year it would be a huge win for the Brewers. Either the Brewers are going to have to pay for all of his salary next year and get no prospect or pay some of his salary next year and get a prospect. Which would you choose? I know I would choose the pay some of Ramirez salary and get a decent prospect in return rather than paying Ramirez next year when the Brewers won't really need Ramirez. Gallardo has some value and if you look back at what the Dbacks got for Haren who was having a similar year to what Gallardo is having when he was traded from the Dbacks to the Angels. I don't see how the Brewers can not get at least one good prospect for Gallardo. The Dodgers and the Red Sox make the most sense in trading partners. It doesn't really matter if the Dodgers will be in it or not as they are going to try to win now even if they are not in the race for a playoff spot. I believe Gallardo fits in perfectly with the Dodgers and would be able to slide in as their #3 or #4 pitcher. Gallardo would then replace Beckett or Billingsley next year for them. The Red Sox would be the ideal trading partner for a Gallardo trade. Bogaerts or Bradley won't be available but Cecchini, Barnes, and others will be available. If Bogaerts is not available I would definitely want Cecchini, Barnes, and Ranaudo for Gallardo. That is actually less than what the Brewers got for Greinke last year as Cecchini will be an average to an above average 3B offensively probably closer to average nothing special and Barnes and Ranaudo both have control problems though their stuff is top of the rotation. As for Ramirez again the Dodgers make some sense here. I am not sure the Braves are a good fit for Ramirez but would be for Gallardo. The Reds would be a good fit for Ramirez but I am not sure Melvin or the Reds GM will trade within the division. I still believe GM's don't want to trade prospects to a team in their division and these trades are very rare because of this notion.
  13. Same except I don't like Daenerys.
  14. As much as I like Garfield I don't believe he is going to be a good defensive C. Offensively Garfield probably has more power than Lucroy in his bat but he just swings at anything and everything. He has very little plate discipline but I do agree that the Brewers are not void of talent at the catcher position and moving Coulter off of catcher is a wise decision. Coulter could easily transition to 3B and I am not sure why the Brewers have not done this already. It is not like Coulter would be blocking anyone at 3B or impeding anyone in the minors if he is moved off of catcher and to another position preferably to 3B. Coulter may ultimately become a corner OF but I just wish the Brewers would try him at 3B.
  15. I am not sure why you are being short sighted in just looking at playoff contenders. The Dodgers would have Gallardo for two more seasons so it doesn't really matter if they are going to be making the playoffs this year or not as Gallardo wouldn't be a half year rental. If the Dodgers are interested in Cliff Lee there is no reason they would not be interested in Gallardo also. Again you are being very short sighted at looking at playoff contenders.
  16. Not unless he develops at least a third pitch. Nevermind that as he still needs to develop his first and second pitch still.
  17. I don't believe he will stick at SS but he will definitely stick at 3B. He has an absolute cannon for an arm. Probably as good as Hardy's was. A real 5-tool player and if it wasn't for his draft eligibilty concerns he would have gone in the top 10. Just recently he was cleared as eligible for the draft I believe.
  18. I like this team because it means a top 10 pick in next years draft. Maybe the Brewers will get even worse and will somehow get the #1 pick and get Rodon. One can dream can't they?
  19. The more I think about this the more I see a Dan Haren type trade. The Dbacks in 2010 were about in the same situation as the Brewers are in now going nowhere really. The Dbacks got Corbin, Saunders, and Rodriguez when they traded Haren to the Angels. I think something similar to this is what the Brewers are going to receive in return. I don't really like the idea of getting a veteran starter in return but this might be the best the Brewers will receive for Gallardo. The Dodgers would be a team that would make the most sense here for this type of a trade and their record really wouldn't matter as Gallardo would be around for more than 1-year. Capuano, Zach Lee, and Chris Reed would be comparable players to what the Dbacks received in the Haren trade.
  20. #54 - Drew Ward SS, 3B #72 - Blake Taylor LHP #90 - Josh Hart OF 4th - Akeem Bostick RHP/OF
  21. The talent is insufficient and the pitching staff is no where near as good as the 08' team even with Suppan in the rotation. People forget that Sheets was the best pitcher in the NL for the first half of the year and Parra actually was rather good in the first half of the year. Right now there are three Dave Bush's on the team and not a single Sheets so your W/L expectancy is going to go down. I don't think this team was going to be this bad but they were a .500 team at best to begin the season and leaning more towards a team that would finish below .500. How far below .500 is debatable as a lot of things can happen between the start of the season and the end of the season. A team can go very cold in the beginning of the year and then warm up for a month or two. This team right now doesn't have the pitching it had in 08' and it is not even close. This is where there is a huge discrepancy of talent between the two teams the pitching is bad in the rotation and it is killing the bullpen. The bullpen maybe better than what the Brewers had in 08' but it is absolutely getting killed by its starting pitchers who on a normal basis can barely make it out of the 5th inning everyday. The Brewers bullpen has already thrown a total of 173.2 IP so far this year!!!!! only the Astros, Blue Jays, Twins, Pirates, and Rockies have thrown more innings than the Brewers bullpen. Only the Pirates and the Rockies have a winning record of those 5 other teams. There is not much an offense can do when your pitching fails to go longer than 6 innings on a consistent basis. If your starters are only going about 6 innings every game that means you are putting out your worst relief pitcher more than you should be. The manager is not the problem it is the roster construction that is the problem. MA made a mistake and went with Lohse this off season and thought he would put the team over the top or make them more competitive. Lohse is not that kind of a pitcher to be leaning on to do that as he is not an ace nor is he a #1 or #2 type pitcher. He is not going to carry a team to victory by averaging 7+ innings every start and keeping the team in the game. Lohse is not a Sabathia, Sheets, or even a Greinke type of a pitcher and this is what this team is missing. Without a pitcher like that you are looking at a best possible outcome of a .500 team maybe a little bit over if everything goes right. Now everything is not going right for the Brewers and this is the scenario where if everything does not go right for the Brewers they are a sub .500 team and you are looking at a team that is probably in the discussion of being in the bottom 10 of the league. The offense is great but the pitching is not and your offense is only going to take you so far. I believe Roenicke is actually perfect for this team that has been constructed and going forward Roenicke is the answer as he is a perfect manager for younger players as he manages to their strengths. You need a manager who has an aggressive approach for younger players as they play more aggressive. Roenicke would be a bad manager if you want to keep on doing what the Brewers have been doing and that is adding more and more veteran players.
  22. I would as Carp and Gomes are worth nothing. As much as I like Cecchini he is an average at best MLB 3B. Barnes and Bogaerts are the only two good players the Brewers would receive in this trade scenario. Definitely not enough for Braun. The Pirates would be more likely as they have more talent to give up.
  23. Yes, he will be the manager until the end of the year and possibly even longer. I don't see MA changing mnangers this time around. The team isn't even as good as the team that Yost had when he was fired. I also believe MA really likes Roenicke as the manager of the team and will have him kept even if there is a new GM.
  24. Who is this Cy Young candidate they added? I hope you don't mean Lohse because that would just be silly. Look this team was just barely a .500 team this off season before adding Lohse and probably closer to a sub .500 team. After adding Lohse not much changed. Withe Gallardo regressing this much this season you get a really bad team as there is no elite level pitching in the rotation. I expect Peralta to pitch better as the year goes on but that wont be enough to move the needle past a sub .500 team. Gallardo needs to pitch like he was in 2011 for this team to even have a better record. I am sorry but this rotation is rather bad especially with Gallardo performing like he is.
