  1. What is more alarming the Brewers only scoring 2 runs against the Phillies best pitchers or the Phillies only scoring 7 runs against the Brewers worst starting pitchers? I think it is the Phillies being the biggest worry here. They only scored 4 runs against some really poor starting pitching. The other 3 runs were scored off the Brewers bullpen. The Phillies offense scored 0 runs off of Rea and only scored 2 runs off of Ashby and Wilson each. The Phillies offense looked just as bad if not worse than the Brewers offense in this 3-game series against worse pitching.
  2. I believe they will be having a stock split on Friday for 10-1. But I don't think that is what is driving the price going up. Well it is driving it just not the primary reason.
  3. I don’t see the Marlins having any interest in Turang or Ortiz. This also doesn’t make any sense for the Brewers. This is just digging in the hole you are to fill in the hole you are in.
  4. No. I don’t see the Marlins accepting that. Wiemer and Mitchell have very little value they are basically throw in players right now. I am not sure the Marlins would want Crod either. Black is interesting but I think they would want Wilken or Quero over Black. If you want Luzardo you are going to have to give up one of Quero, Misio or Wilken and then a couple of other pieces and no Wiemer or Mitchell are not one of those other pieces.
  5. There were some on this board who were calling for the Brewers to sign him and then calling the Brewers cheap because they didn't sign him. There were plenty of predictions about him not living up to the contract. The Mets and White Sox both gave out huge contracts like candy on Halloween and neither team is all that competitive now. Unless you have a generational player (Judge, Ohtani, Harper, etc.) then spending a lot in FA and for a long term contract is not a wise decision. It is like signing an aging RB in NFL FA you may get something nice once in a hundred times but ninety nine times out of a hundred you are getting a flaming bag of poo. I bet the majority of long term contracts for non star players and even some star players (Pujols, Rendon) are just absolutely horrible and not worth the trouble of even signing these players to long term contracts.
  6. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is the Brewers trading for Alonso and I don’t think they will have to give up anyone in their top 5 to do so. Bauers also sounds like someone Stearns would target in return. He wouldn’t be the headliner but someone who would be coming back to fill in at 1B for the rest of the year. Something like Brown, Bauers and O’Rae for Alonso. Probably have to replace Brown with someone better like Pratt/Lara/Yophery Rodriguez.
  7. Luzardo would be the best but you are right he would cost a lot in prospect capital and I am not willing to give that up for 2.5 years of control. Another option if you want to go down the just for this season route would be Yusei Kikuchi from Toronto. If you want to go big Braxton Garrett has also been rumored to be available though I think I would wait on the Marlins and possibly talk with them in the off season and see if they would be willing to deal Alcantara in the off season. He won't have as much value in the off season so the Marlins may hold on him to get a better return or just keep him going forward. If I were to deal with the Rays I would see if they would include Arozarena in the Littel deal. Arozarena has been bad this year offensively but the Brewers have picked someone up from the Rays who was playing poorly before and it worked out (Adames). Maybe something like Wiemer/Lara, Wichrowski and a DSL player for Littel and Arozarena could be close? If you want Luzardo I think the Marlins would ask for a Quero/Black/Misio/Wilken + deal. I don't think you will need to give up more than one of the Brewers top 10 prospects and I think the Marlins would be more interested in a bat than pitching. I know the bullpen has been great so far but I wouldn't mind picking up Puk. I think the Royals will splurge on Luzardo and I wouldn't want to get in a bidding war for that. The Cubs or Cardinals may also get in on Luzardo. I would rather get Kikuchi or Verlander if the Astros falter but it looks like they are playing like expected recently.
  8. Nightengale is wrong. The Mets never offered CC anything.
  9. The Mets weren't even willing to meet the Brewers numbers let alone get anywhere close to the Cubs numbers. The contract the Brewers offered is what CC shopped around. Cleveland didn't want to get into a bidding war and they bowed out early. The Cubs came around at the last minute. It was a take it or leave it type of deal and well we know what CC did. The Brewers had a 0% chance of matching the Cubs offer and I don't think they would have even had tried. That is just way too much to give to a manager.
  10. If Culpepper has to move off of SS it will be to an OF spot and probably will be in CF. I don't think he will need to move off of SS. Culpepper should be able to hit enough it is just how much power will he generate? Similar to Yelich he has a more flatter swing so he doesn't get much of a launch on his hits. A lot of line drives and will probably have problems getting to the lower third of the strike zone at least getting enough lift on the ball there.
  11. I wonder how much MLB had to pay him to retire?
  12. If you look at the Blue Jays they are kind of in the same situation the Brewers were in during the 2010 season. For the Brewers it was just Prince but for the Blue Jays it is Vlad and Bichette. Bichette has a lot of value and it would take a ton to get him and I am not sure there is a team out there that would put up the prospects the Blue Jays would want in return. So the Blue Jays are stuck in a division that doesn't look winnable for them at least not with the Yankees and Orioles built like they are. You are not getting top 15-20 prospects and another piece for those relievers. While they are good relievers they are not closer level relievers who normally get top 15-20 prospects. If you mean a teams 15-20 prospects then sure but those are normally lower level prospects.
  13. They are not that far off from Wilken. Wilken only had more walks than K's in his last year of college. White may need to move to 1B but I am not all that worried about that. He may have to hit more to be more valuable but the Brewers are picking 17 not in the top 5 so problems like that are going to be there for anyone the Brewers takes at 17. Cam Smith if he even lasts to 17 would be an absolute steal. White or Smith at 17 would be a good start to the draft for the Brewers.
  14. Low and just out of the zone but right down the middle of the plate.
  15. Oh no Adames swung 3-0!!!!! Watch out the baseball purists are going to come in and say this is not how you play baseball!!!!! You must take 3-0!!!!!
  16. Megill probably has the most value beyond Hudson maybe. I think you will get AAAA, Rookie or DSL players for anyone else in the bullpen.
  17. Unlikely. The Brewers probably only have 1 AS this year in Contreras though Turang has been as good as Arraez and Marte. If there is an alternate maybe Hudson but that is even more unlikely.
  18. I think it is his delivery as he is able to hide the ball really well. His pitches don't have elite movement and velocity wise he is just average. So it has to be how he hides the ball that hitters are just not able to pick it up.
  19. It is up to the schools to do what they want with it. They could allocate it all to one player if they wanted to. There are going to be a lot of legal challenges with this. Football and men's basketball will get the bigger share of the revenue. UW will have a harder time than Marquette in terms of who to pay and who not to pay or to pay very little. Marquette will just have to divide its revenue up between the Men's and Women's basketball teams getting the majority of the share with the other athletics getting whatever is left over volleyball probably getting a bigger share than the other sports. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/college/2024/05/25/ncaa-lawsuit-settlement-revenue-sharing-legal-questions/73843373007/ I am wondering if Marquette will start to have a flag football team as this has been increasing in popularity and it will be a sport in the LA Summer Olympics. Would need a Men's and Women's team so that could possibly cut into the revenue a bit but I don't think it would be all that much.
  20. MLB controls the Apple TV+ rights so you will have to complain to Manfred on this one. The Brewers have no control over this but they did get some money from the agreement with MLB and Apple. There are very few teams that actually own their own stadium. Actually I think you can probably count all of them on one hand and still have a finger or two left.
  21. The Big East should be fine. While they don't have a huge TV contract right now it is about $4m per team. That TV contract ends after the '24-'25 season. I think they could easily top the 12-year $500m contract the Big East signed previously. UConn and Villanova are the two biggest TV draws in the Big East for TV ratings. I think the Big East could get a rather large TV contract and it should be more per school than what the schools are getting now. Though this could be lower as the schools will need to share this with the players now. The Big East won't get the same money as the B10 gets because of the football TV contracts are far more lucrative. The Big East should be in the middle somewhere and should be fine.
  22. The umpires are just awful this year. Not just calling balls and strikes but things like the above. Some of these umps need to be fired or something. MLB needs to make these guys more accountable for their extremely bad calls. I don’t even know how you can call interference on that. The runner has the right to go back to the base there. The infielder wasn’t interfered with and was clearly able to make the play. If anything the fielder interfered with the runner getting back to the base. That isn’t even clear there either but if you wanted to call interference that is what should have been called not on the runner but on the fielder.
  23. The Brewers have only scored 3 or fewer runs this month 6 times. They are 1-5 in those games. Where the Brewers have scored 4 or more runs a game they are 9-5. They could improve a bit on their 3 or fewer runs games this month and they probably should have won one or two of those games. The 4 or more have been bad bullpen games or bad starting pitching where they have lost. If you are scoring 4+ a game you should be winning more than you are losing even with a bad pitching staff. The Brewers have won 8 games so far this month by 2 or more runs. If we expand that to 3 or more it is 4 games. By comparison the Brewers have only lost 4 games this month by 2 or more runs. The offense hasn't really been the problem this month it is the pitching and it has been the bullpen a bit this month that has melted down a few times and have cost the Brewers a few wins. I think some are forgetting the Marlins have a really good pitching staff it is their hitting that has been the problem but they scored 8 10 and then 3 off of the Mets coming into the series against the Brewers so their offense had been clicking a bit. In the series the Marlins scored 9 runs and the Brewers also scored 9 runs. Offense wasn't really the problem and the Brewers ran into a really good Luzardo.
