  1. Re: Scooter's blurb - someone should probably tell SI that JD Martinez didn't win the MVP last year
  2. If it were under the character limit, this should be copied and pasted in reply to every player complaining on Twitter. If you don’t understand why fans aren’t up in arms over the current state of free agency, then you don’t understand fans. Fans don’t care about how ownership and players split their millions and billions of dollars. At all. We just want to see our team win.
  3. Man the season really can't start soon enough...
  4. They don't necessarily want games to go faster - they want games to have better pace. Less time waiting for the next pitch, waiting for the next pitcher to be ready, waiting for the next ball actually put in play, etc. More offense and better pace are not mutually exclusive. I've resisted the notion of the DH for awhile, but I think I'm over it. I absolutely love the strategy of the NL (and yes it is absolutely "strategy") and would prefer the DH to stay away, but I understand the notion that pitchers suck at hitting so why make them. And I hate watching our pitchers get hurt trying to swing or run or walk slowly. MLB wants it, the players want it, the players union wants it. It's going to happen, better get used to it.
  5. First time On-Decker here... Any advice for bringing an 8-month old? Is there enough room around to navigate with a stroller? Better to bring a baby bjorn or something?
  6. Stop ruining my small market fan, we get no attention/respect narrative!
  7. Man I hope you are right. I am very worried that Jimmy will never be near the guy he once was, based on little other than years of being a pessimistic Brewers fan. No one nationally talks about it, but if Jimmy comes back to his 2017 form, and Burnes is what we think he might be, all of a sudden the one weakness everyone wants to talk about on this team becomes a legit strength.
  8. Seems to me, for years teams were shelling out huge, long, and terrible deals (A-Rod, Pujols, Giancarlo, Heyward, Fielder...the list is long). Even if the player performed reasonably well, it was a huge albatross to the team on the hook. But it was the going rate, so if you wanted a star free agent you had to pay up in both years and money. Those deals were hugely in favor of the players and agents. Now in the age of analytics, teams and GMs have wised up. Maybe it will happen, but I'd be surprised if Machado or Harper pull in the 10+ years, $300m+ they are likely looking for. It just doesn't make sense, and it never really did. But it was the norm for years, so those players and agents are holding out for their big payday, delaying the free agency market, and complaining that there's some conspiracy because teams don't want to hand out high-risk, low-reward contracts. There's plenty of money still being paid to the players, they just can't have it all in one huge guaranteed lifetime contract anymore. And that's not unreasonable. If I'm a player just recently drafted, my biggest beef is the 6 years of non-negotiable team control and low pay before hitting arbitration. As a Brewers fan I obviously don't want that to go away, but for example Travis Shaw's salary last year probably wasn't quite fair, especially if teams aren't going to pay out once he hits free agency either.
  9. I’m sure players aren’t happy, but it seems that teams just simply don’t view large/long contracts as wise investments. Especially for smaller markets, they’re right. Something will probably need to change, but I don’t think it’s a conspiracy, just teams/GMs getting smarter and more efficient. But don’t want to derail the topic - love the short deal for this team, and am anxiously awaiting who we are about to trade for Bumgarner.
  10. Dozier 2018: .215/.305/.391/.696 Schoop 2018 total: .233/.266/.416/.682 Schoop's Brewers numbers that got him run out of town: .202/.246/.331/.577 At worst, Dozier's 2018 numbers are comparable to Schoop's (a bit less power but significantly better OBP), and nowhere near Schoop's horrific Brewers numbers. He also came off of back-to-back years of OPSing >.850 with 76 total HRs. He's not THAT old at age 32 next year (1 year younger than LoCain), certainly not old enough that his numbers should suddenly plummet based on age alone. Seems more likely to me his injury took it's toll. As with any buy-low candidate, there is risk or else you wouldn't be buying low. But count me in for sure on a short-term deal for Dozier to bridge the gap to Hiura if he is medically fit.
  11. Considering malls everywhere are dying - including Grand Avenue years ago and fairly recently-renovated Bayshore actively losing multiple stores - a mall in Miller Park, in a non-residential area, would almost certainly follow that path. And as someone who attends Brewers road series yearly, when looking for hotels proximity to the stadium isn’t #1 on the priority list. Being near entertainment, restaurants, etc is most important. Uber can get you to the game easy no matter where you stay. I wouldn’t stay in a hotel at the stadium if there’s nothing else to do around there. And for all but 81 days a year, there would be little reason to stay at that hotel. If they wanted an entertainment center, they should’ve built it downtown. They instead opted for parking lots/tailgating. And there’s nothing wrong with that, Miller Park is great for what it is - an area to go tailgate and watch a game.
  12. I find Tim Dillard very likeable...just not very funny. I found his guest spots on FS Wisconsin this year very cringe-worthy. If he stops trying so hard, he could be a decent on-air personality. But he should try being a baseball guy who can be funny instead of a funny guy who can talk baseball.
  13. Meh, feels underwhelming. As such, based on Stearns’ history, I fully expected him to dominate next year.
  14. I love the idea of Kimbrel. Brewers last year had an average offense and average starting pitching, and nearly made the World Series with an elite bullpen. You’d like to think the rotation gets an upgrade with Burnes and Nelson, and Kimbrel keeps that bullpen elite. I do not, however, like the idea of what it will cost to sign Kimbrel. If it’s reasonable, or at least a short contract (which I doubt it will be), I’d be all for it.
  15. FIFY I’m not sure which is nuttier - the Twitter masses, or people that respond to the Twitter masses as if they are truly a representative sample
  16. If you can get Kluber while keeping Hiura and Burnes, you do it now. If you can get him while keeping Peralta and Woodruff too as some are suggesting (but I doubt is realistic), you do it yesterday.
  17. Every single player in sports is available for a price - regardless of team control, importance to their franchise, salary etc. Some prices are just higher than would ever realistically be offered.
  18. Lemahieu is a solid 2B, don't get me wrong. But I think people are overrating him with the Coors Field stats bump. Last year on the road he hit: .229/.277/.422/.698 For his career on the road: .264/.311/.362/.673 He did have better road splits in 2016-17, good but not great in the low to mid .700s His career OPS+ is 92. Last year it was 88. These are around or below league average for a 2B. Again, league average overall for all players is 100. I'd take him, but I certainly am not chomping at the bit to go get Lemahieu.
  19. I wonder the same. This front office under Stearns has showed time and time again to be smart with their investments and ahead of the competition in terms of analyzing players and strategies. While I am certainly concerned about DJ's departure and wish he were staying, until proven otherwise I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they know what they're doing with their assistant coaches as well.
  20. I’m all for loosening the “unwirtten rules” and letting the guys play withouth bench clearing brawls because a guy pumped his fist or watched his 450-foot home run for an extra second. But if a guy rounds the bases giving the entire crowd the “suck it” gesture on national TV, I also have no problem with him getting a fastball in the ribs next time we play.
  21. Really like Moustakas as a guy, seems like a great personality and teammate. And he might love Milwaukee. But if he can get a multi-year deal elsewhere, he’s gone. And understandably so.
  22. If we grab an early lead, I would love to see us hold on Hader as long as you can. Very short leash to bring him in, don’t get me wrong, but we have the luxury of a number of other really good relievers. The Dodgers know Hader is coming in at some point. So the longer the game goes with no Hader, the shorter and shorter the game gets and the more the pressure rises on the Dodgers.
  23. I am impressed by your Brewerfan.net formatting skills. Edit: I even had to edit your quote because when I did it, it posted the ginormous picture which you so deftly hid.
  24. Mildly interesting side note: This is the Brewers 3rd 7-game series in their history. In each series, the road team has taken a 3-2 advantage. In the previous two, the Brewers were the home team once and the road team once...and they lost both. Time for the law of averages to start averaging.
  25. Everyone is down because we need to win two, and remember this exact situation in 2011 all too well. But we really just need one today first. After that, the perspective will totally change. In a 7-game MLB series, home teams down 3-2 are 11-8 in game 6. Those teams that win game 6 are 8-3 in game 7. Win today, and we get one game at home to go to the World Series. Let’s goooooooooo!
