  1. Patriots a wild card? Raiders have been mentioned. Nothing stopping Surtain from being part of the deal, right? If Love is the real deal (HUGE if), Surtain plus two future #1s wouldn’t suck. Still, I hope cooler heads prevail this weekend.
  2. I’m hoping the Broncos take a QB to quell some of the Rodgers to Denver rumors.
  3. I like Trey Lance, but his 16-game FCS career would scare the bageezus out of me. That’s too small of a sample (and I swear that’s not my UND bias).
  4. If all of this is true and the damage is irreparable, then the price for the reigning MVP is 3 first rounders.
  5. They can’t acquire Jimmy G. Between his salary and Rodgers’ dead cap hit, they’d be way over the cap with very little recourse for getting under.
  6. I don’t think they could absorb Rodgers’ dead money hit from the trade and Wilson’s current salary.
  7. This is exceptionally hard to believe. They know what the cap hit is. They spent all off season bringing back all of their team from last year to make another run at it - I don't think they did this thinking they'll have Love starting at QB. I’m with you there. Money was pushed out to extend this team’s window. Plus, Aaron Jones received a second contract that defied conventional wisdom and cost them a future comp pick.
  8. Paraphrasing from Andy Herman’s Twitter: Point: It’s always best to draft a quarterback before you need one. Counterpoint: No, it’s not.
  9. Yes, but didn’t they trade their FRPs from ‘21-‘23 to get this year’s #3? Also, I don’t think you can trade picks out further than 3 years.
  10. Rodgers is well-positioned for a Super Bowl run this year. The Packers are 26-6 over the past 2 years and are returning 21/22 starters. I’m far from an optimist when it comes to the Packers because I’m just conditioned to believe something will eventually go wrong; however, if I’m being objective, this is largely a good situation for Rodgers.
  11. Rodgers’ dead money for 2021 is similar to his cap number (~$38mm) - meaning they’d get no cap relief this year by trading him. His dead money number drops significantly next year (<$20mm), making a trade much more feasible in 2022.
  12. The 49ers are gambling that a team will want one of those three and will give up a lot to get one. If not they will probably go OL or DL with the pick. Rumors are there that Fields is dropping like a rock and could be available in the 15-20 range. Fields is going to make a team regret drafting him. He will be as bad as Trubisky as he is a very inaccurate passer. I would actually take Trubisky's arm over Fields'. But they traded #12 plus two future first rounders to move up to #3. I’m not sure a team makes that move for anything other than a franchise QB. They could have gotten a very good lineman at #12.
  13. Adam Schefter is reporting that Aaron Rodgers is so disgruntled with the Packers that he doesn’t want to return to the team.
  14. I wonder if SF is getting cold feet about picking at #3? They gave up an awful lot for Mac Jones, Trey Lance, or Justin Fields.
  15. I wouldn't be shocked. Hopefully with a 6th or 7th and not sooner. Of course, the punter's importance is greatly reduced in this era of going for 4th downs more often... maybe keep drafting offense instead. I saw one one mock draft that had us drafting a new long snapper... That I hope to avoid (find a replacement if needed, but not draft one). Same - neither would bother me if they’re drafted in the 6th round or later
  16. That’s pretty much it - they are enjoying a pandemic inspired renaissance. Most cards are still worthless (even the ones you buy brand new), but the market has never been stronger for high-quality rookies, serial numbered cards, and other rare variants.
  17. Happy Draft Day, Everyone. In the words of Michael Scott, ‘I am ready to get hurt again.’
  18. How did it go? I’m a little nervous about Round 2 next week. I was fatigued after the first poke, so I’ve preemptively blocked off a sick day following my next one.
  19. I’m with you for the most part. The NFL wants fans to be invested in their favorite team because it drives $$$. With that emotional investment comes a lot of joy and a lot of disappointment. This BF group is pretty grounded, which makes for good chatter. However, Packers’ Twitter can be toxic.
  20. I agree with your post, but I want to note that I doubt the pick will be viewed as for the future by the media/fans- that guy will be expected to produce immediately, and if/when he doesn't, he'll be called a poor draft pick by same a year from now. I hope they take a receiver or two this weekend, but I don’t view it as a glaring weakness. If BPA at #29 is a WR, then they should take a WR. However, I still view OL, DL, and CB as greater needs.
  21. I agree wholeheartedly that OL is their biggest need. I’ll be disappointed if they don’t take a tackle in the first two rounds. But putting the NFC Championship Game loss on OL depth? The writer was reaching to justify their selection. It would have been easier to state the Packers have questions on the OL due to the departure of Corey Linsley and late season injury to David Bakhtiari. I thought they re-shuffled the OL masterfully last year after losing Bulaga in free agency, Linsley for a stretch, and then Bakhtiari in the playoffs. Turner and Jenkins each started at 3 different positions over the course of the season. There’s just no way to have a backup All Pro left tackle in case of emergency and they ran in to one of the few teams who could exploit the injury to Bakhtiari.
  22. This mock draft from nfl.com has the Packers taking OT Jalen Mayfield (which would be a solid pick), but their rationale is that the Packers ‘lack of depth’ on the OL was exposed in the playoffs. I’d argue their depth was pretty solid all year, but they were short their All-Pro left tackle against the best front seven in the NFL. That’s not really a depth issue. https://www.nfl.com/news/bucky-brooks-2021-nfl-mock-draft-3-0-49ers-pick-trey-lance-najee-harris-to-cardi
  23. I don’t get the wide receiver obsession some fans (and the media) seem to have. Rodgers was the MVP of the league throwing to the current bunch. If they want to ‘get Rodgers some help’ (media term), I’d prefer they draft an OT who they can plug and play on the right side and eliminate some of the shuffling that may occur until Bahktiari is healthy. Now if the BPA at #29 is a WR, I hope they take him, but only because I’m a BPA guy and it addresses a need (but not a glaring hole). Edit: Demovsky took WR Rashod Bateman in ESPN’s beat reporter mock draft. I thought the local guys would have a better pulse on this team, but then again, who knows what will happen tomorrow.
