  1. Davis is probably gone, but Clark is one of my personal favorites, so I hope he sticks around. But I wonder how much Gutekunst might be cleaning house from TT? Given the amount of young development WRs we have right now, how in the world do you give each enough time to see if there is anything legit there?
  2. Lebron James was actually known for disappearing in big games when he was younger. Then running off the court.
  3. Seems like we have a systemic problem with starting poorly in Q1. Sometimes we recover, sometimes we don't.
  4. My $0.02 evaluation of our draft picks. Please don't complain that I overcharged you... Jaire Alexander - I'm still not sold on shorter CBs, but certainly has the speed to back him up. I'm a bit concerned about staying healthy in the NFL, but should be Week 1 Nickle/Dime CB to cover the slot. I assume Jaire was a possibility at #14, so a great use of draft pick capitol to squeak out a 2019 1st rounder by basically burning a 3rd round pick this year. Josh Jackson - A gift of a CB dropped to us that you can't pass up. Compared to Richard Sherman, he also evokes (to me) comparisons to fellow 2nd round pick Al Harris. Tough and physical CB that is capable of starting Week 1 if necessary. Excellent value pick here. Oren Burks - So what is he? Well, athletic to start. Safety coverage skills are there, but lacking some LB instincts. If they plug him in at Nickle/Dime LB and let him figure that out they will maximize his rookie impact. Then see how he figures out run coverage for 3 down LB duties as he grows. J'mon Moore - Moore will probably compete with Allison, Yancy, Davis for the 3rd and 4th WRs. I see a lot of Davante in him, but less polished. Similar sized hands give him the same catch issues. But Moore has better speed/3-cone numbers that could give him better route potential. There will be a LOT of WR competition. Cole Madison - Typical 4th/5th round Packer selection of an OT turned G. Even has the hair-do and facial hair to remind of Josh Sitton. Some possibility at RT, but probably more of future at G. Like WR, there will be a LOT of competition to backup G and RT this year. I'll give him 50/50 odds of sticking. JK Scott - The "what the ...???" moment of the draft. Beyond starting QB, I thought Punter was the lowest need on the team. Vogel did really well as a rookie. Really, really well. Not only in results, but showed nerves of steel when pressured or backed up to the goal line. But Scott looks like he has better overall skills and a bigger leg. Including the all important kick-off and place-kick holder positions. Punting competition is coming.... but it should be the good kind (with two viable choices instead of our previous kind where we had to abort and grab someone from waivers). Marquez Valdes-Scantling - Taller version of Davis. With all the WRs on this team, I'm not sure how he makes the team. Can't teach speed though. Equanimeous St. Brown - Winner of Most Pretentious Name of the Draft award. Another huge potential WR that lacks strength to compete right away. He will have to show something to stay on the team with all the other WRs picked this year and last. James Looney - Another heads scratcher for me. Seems like a 4-3 DE only. Too small for a 3-4 DE without much chance to grow. Too slow for an OLB. I don't see how he fits. Hunter Bradley - 6 year college student due to 2 ACL tears. Probably the worst kept secret of the draft? Might be working with Scott and Crosby for future FGs. Kendall Donnerson - Workout warrior red flags flying high. Special teams will be his ticket on the team, but probably a practice squad candidate while he figures out football. Overall the draft started well, but the end of the draft ended oddly. Some talented guys, but a good chance that 3-4 of them will be cut or need time on the PS.
  5. I also felt better after reading a bit about him, but it was still a surprise. The rounds 5+ did seem very weak this year. I remember a punt that Vogel had last year when we were backed up in the endzone and he blasted back to the 30 or 40 yd line. I thought, ok, there is a keeper. He was 11th in punting net last year. And for kicking in GB through Nov/Dec, that is really excellent.
  6. And Gutekunst says, "Hold my Beer!" - And with the 35th pick of the 5th round of the 2018 NFL draft, the Packers pick, JK Scott, Punter from Alabama. He actually looks really good. But we just had a very good season from Justin Vogel (11th in net punting). Probably the position that we LEAST needed. That was really unexpected...
  7. I scratched my head a bit to trade up for Burke. Interesting physical guy, but didn't think they needed to trade up to get him. Lack of any OLB is also a bit surprising, but there didn't seem to be any great players there this year...
  8. With the hair/beard combo, he reminds me a bit of Josh Sitton. Hopefully he actually plays like him.
  9. If used alone, I agree. If used with 3-cone and shuttle, I think the three stats give a good profile of a players speed/agility. Jordy had a 4.5 -40 yd dash, but mediocre 3-cone (7.03) and shuttle speeds (4.35). He always did need a bit of time to get going, but out ran many people when he did. Adams had a 4.6, but better 3-cone (6.82) and shuttle (4.3) speeds. He doesn't outrun people so much, but does it more on routes. Nice to hear Moore had 4.5 -40 at his pro day, because his 3-cone (6.56) and shuttle (4.05) are crazy good. Time to work on those hands...
  10. I was thinking more of an Adams clone. Slow 40 time, but excellent 3-cone.
  11. Tyrell Crosby dropping?
  12. Given how our draft has gone, Fugamali is really the only one left that makes sense. Jamerson maybe if they REALLY want to go DB deep.
  13. Jacobs, Jamerson and Dooley have a shot too.
  14. I was just thinking about Sweat too. Doesn't look like there is much else in the 3-4 EDGE category unless you mine a gem in Div II.
  15. With all this "hurt Brees" talk, you guys don't seem like "Packer people"... in fact more like a Saints' coach.
  16. Fourth round comes tomorrow. Time to draft the annual T turned OG (or surprise LT). Plus we need a couple TEs. A WR would be nice touch too.
  17. NFL.com has him listed as a weak side OLB (WILL) in a 4-3 or an ILB in a 3-4. At 6'3" and 233lbs, he surely isn't an OLB in a 3-4. But functionally probably more of a nickle backer to cover TEs and RBs. It does seem wise in today's game to have more coverage LBs than our traditional ILBs. I'm getting a little concerned about drafting a couple very inexperienced players (neither Burks nor Jackson have much history). Good physical numbers though. Hopefully, he makes it worth trading up for.
  18. If the draft pick valuations are accurate, I'd rather stand pat and pick first in the 4th. Probably better having so many 4ths and 5ths than a 3rd.
  19. Maybe then we can then hire a championship caliber manager like Ned Yost? Dang... CC has been Yosted!
  20. But I'd also pump the brakes on Dubon hype. Hype is a big overstatement. Just another option. I'm sure he could do better on offense (118/182/358) and defense right now. That isn't a high bar.
  21. The other two.... Well a FS reach with plans to convert to CB & a basketball player who had barely played football.... Randell did have moments though. Rollins had never been healthy enough to show anything. I just have a gut feeling that Randall breaks out in Cleveland as a safety... Lots of talent that was handled wrong and then showed some immaturity. Rollins probably should be a FS as well.
  22. I never quite bought into Jackson at #14. I saw an early mock draft that had him going to the Packers in the second round. I think it makes more sense there with his speed and lack of experience. House and Williams will have quite a bit of talent to mentor this year.
  23. Sorry, but I need to throw a flag. Please don't be "that guy" you're better than that ; ) You can wear a regular Packers jersey, otherwise wear a sweatshirt or something. But it is against fan rules to make up your own jersey, look it up. I'm an owner. I make the rules! Plus, Packer fans have no unwritten rules. Only Cardinal fans.
  24. Actually that crossed my mind watching the game today as I saw Dubon hitting 300+ at AAA (granted that is mostly in Colorado). And that was even before Sogards gaffs at SS. Frankly, I'm not sure why Sogard is at SS over Villar either...
  25. even if he needs help over the top covering someone like Julio Jones....so would guys who are a half-inch taller. Kevin King says hi! I mentioned it elsewhere, but I read that Pettite likes a tall CB on one side and shorter/faster on the other. Probably just for that reason. Covering different types of WRs. I doubt we will see the CB A on the left and CB B and the right scheme as much. I'd guess they start following WRs more often now.
