  1. Maybe if the MLB actually put a player's current numbers next to his name, it would help in picking deserving All-Stars.
  2. I don't remember anything immediately after being drafted, but I know as he produced and moved up the ladder, he was firmly in the top 5 area. He was the MVP at AA. I'd compare him to Kh Davis and Erik Komatsu. Both were drafted higher than 11th round, but they were kind of overlooked and continue to produce. Komatsu has a different skill set than Hart (OBP and better defense, less SLG), but if he continues at AA, he could easily be the Huntsville MVP and at least contend for league MVP. Davis seems to be very similar to Hart in offense and defense (except in arm strength, which limits Davis to LF).
  3. What do you think? Who deserves the awards for May? Wisconsin: Pitcher: Tyler Thornberg has been dominant in May (0.51 ERA and 11BB/30K in 35 innings with a WHIP of 1.09). He has to be promoted soon, right, Mr. Nichols? Batter: Michael Walker for two months in a row, although he slowed down a bit and was neck and neck with Chris Dennis (fresh from A+), but still hit 292/400/491/891 (nice OBP numbers there). Brevard: Pitcher: Last month, I picked Bucci over Heckathorn and thought it would be an anomaly going forward. Bucci is looking like the real thing and might quickly find himself the top pitching prospect in our system (although the draft may change that also). So congrats to Nicholas Bucci for his improving on an impressive April with 2.25 ERA and 9BB/27K in 32 IP with a WHIP of 1.13. Props to Santo Manzanillo for a nice May also. Batter: Kind of a surprising fight this month. Khris Davis did well, Hunter Morris looked great (inc 4 games at AA), Shawn Zarraga with an 852 OPS at catcher, but my winner is: Brock Kjeldgaard. That final week pulling in big for him, giving him a line of : 261/369/568/937 for May Huntsville: Pitcher: Cody Michael Payne Scarpetta: Nice bounce back month for Cody: 2.62ERA, with 15BB/29K in 34.1 innings and a WHIP of 1.25 Batter: Its tempting to put Huntsville's favorite son Hunter Morris here, as he has lit the world on fire there, but with only 4 games in May in Huntsville... Anderson De La Rosa is doing the same with a few more games (1.032 OPS in 12 games), but I think I have to stick with Little Pine again this month and award to Erik Komatsu for his 317/400/436/836 line. Nashville: Pitcher: In the cupboard is bare category... Rogers is hurt, Rivas didn't pitch well, even DiFelice proved human...So the winner is.... Sam Narron! (2.68 ERA and 11BB/29K in 37IP, 1.22 WHIP) Batter: Tie between Mat Gamel (296/361/537/898) and George Kotteras (356/449/525/975). Kotteras hit better, but only had 1/2 the ABs. Overall: Pitcher: Complete toss-up between Thornberg and Bucci. Thornberg has better numbers, but is older and a level lower... I'm going to pick Tyler Thornberg, since he was nearly unhittable in May. Batter: Probably could have picked 4 batters from Brevard for May before picking from any of the other levels (Kh Davis, Morris and Zarraga), so Brock Kjeldgaard wins it
  4. Ends the interview discussing his recent ejection for "chirping". Can't chirp in a game, can't tweet in a game... what bird impressions are allowed anymore??? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. I agree with JB on taking the pressure off of McGehee. But I've always been a Green fan also. I realize he isn't tearing the cover off the ball at AAA, but anyone know what his MLB projection would be? And is that based off last year or does it include this year also? edit - Wow. Posted this and went to the MiLB forum and found my answer, posted 5 minutes earlier: Taylor Green: .213/.291/.352 16:29
  6. Humans also crapped outside and drank river water for generations That's how I spend my vacations! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  7. Please, please, please turn into a very good prospect. The nickname is tooooooo easy! Especially if he turns into a #1 SP!
  8. He isn't looking lights out this year, but he is looking ok. I'd guess he would be ready to compete with Narveson for the 5th spot in the rotation, but that is about it. I'm afraid Narv is going to pitch himself out of the lineup, so I doubt trading Wolf is an option.
  9. Tony Pechek:Attended Wichita State, Central Arizona, Creighton and Colorado State University. Hmmm... 4 colleges in (presumably) 4 years? That has to be a red flag if I ever saw one. Keith Law isn't sold yet on Tyler Thornburg and says his ceiling is a relief pitcher. That just doesn't make any sense to me. I can understand how you could believe that his most likely position would be as an RP, but to say his ceiling is an RP is pretty ridiculous. His toolset is that of a high end SP (mainly FB speed there), but probably because of age and height, he gets knocked down. Other than that, I think he compares favorably to Peralta and Scarpetta, except with better control.
  10. I'm not sure why that would be surprising. If another team wanted Boggs, they would have claimed him. The Brewers have already shown he is going to be the first one called up, so I doubt there is a better position to be in right now.
  11. I wonder how he compares defensively to Brady Clark or Scotty Po? If his bat keeps up a high ave/obp, he probably would make a fine RF, also.
  12. I've had it too, for quite a while. Its the fan forums icon on the right, just above "Untuckem." It tries to take me to: http://forum.brewerfan.net But if I hit "Fan Forum" at the top (just the text link under the main "BREWERFAN.NET" logo), it takes me to Yuku correctly.
  13. The Nats announcers were pretty surprised by the "Coffey Clock." I wonder if the Nats will adopt it at their house. Surprised because the home team did that for the visiting team or surprised because they didn't understand what it was? We guarantee your Coffey in under 15 seconds or your money back.
  14. I'll admit to not having any good method (other than a subjective Ump call) to separate a take-out-the-catcher from a sliding-take-out. I just don't like seeing someone coming in, dropping the shoulder, blasting through the catcher, then having to come back 5 steps to actually touch home plate. I don't like it when I see Prince do it (or Nyger) to someone and I don't like it when I see someone doing it to our catcher. I'll add to what I said above that the subjective call should only happen on the blatant take-outs, not just any collision. I actually enjoyed catching and some of the collisions I absorbed (and handed out). And with concussions being on the forefront of people's concerns, it wouldn't surprise me to see some ruling on this. As for blocking the plate, I thought it was legal as long as the catcher had the ball (or at least a close play). Obviously, if the ball is going to be late, the catcher can't block (or fake) and allow the runner to score unmolested. That was how I was always taught the game, anyway. edit - I'll add that I haven't seen the Posey collision and my opinion is not based on that.
  15. with CF Logan Schafer getting the bump up. Yeah! Now where is the corresponding transaction that bumps Komatsu to AAA?
  16. As being a former high school catcher, I think the same rule should be applied as for HS catchers. If they guy is intentionally attempting to take out the catcher and not sliding or avoiding, he should be out. Indirect contact is ok, but the dropping the shoulder to go through the catcher isn't, IMO. Doesn't have to be kids gloves, but its not football either.
  17. D.H. DIGITS: The Sounds are just 6-15 when facing an American League affiliate in 2011. Nashville designated hitters are hitting .262 (22-for- 84) with four home runs and 10 RBIs in those contests. Good thing we are building a NL team...
  18. I think most all MLB managers are stupid. Its also easy to easy to be an arm-chair GM/manager because no one is scrutinizing your every decision day in and out. Somethings that seem really stupid, often make more sense when you have all the information they deal with. Walk a mile in their shoes... Welcome back Nyjer. Hopefully, he can get back on the role like he was at first. I'm not too broken up about Boggs. He has more potential then others on the bench, but that hasn't been transforming into production. Still, I would have kept him over Nieves, but...
  19. Sure, there are times when the results get better in the later innings of a particular game but we generally aren't going to expect that. Normally any pitcher doesn't make it to the 8th or 9th innings anymore unless he has an "ON" game. So its not uncommon (but deceiving) to see a pitcher having a better ERA/OPS against/whatever stat in the 8th and 9th innings than the 6th or 7th. As for Grienke, I'm a little confused by the stats there. It shows that he does better the 3rd time through the order than the 1st or second (I'll ignore the 4th time through for the reasons listed previously). But it also shows that pitches 1-25 and 51-75 are comparable and better than 26-50 and 76-100 (which are also comparable). So that seems a little contradictory... I know certain types of pitchers (namely sinker pitchers) tend to pitch better when tired. I forget who he was, but we had someone 5-10 years ago that when he pitched on too much rest, would throw too hard, causing his FB to flatten and then get hit hard(er). Jack Morris (at least later in his career) was another guy like that. He seemed to get better the more tired he pitched.
  20. They just showed a graphic on MLB Network of pitchers since 2007 with at least 10Ks in a game, and a home run. 6 total. Grienke today, Yo had two of them, and Capuano back in 2007 made up 4 of them. The other two were Randy Wolf as a Dodger and CC Sabathia as an Indian. This is why the Brewers wanted to be in the NL. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. June and early July schedule includes 6 games against the 16-32 Twins. What they are suddenly going to be good again? Well, they went from the playoffs last year to suddenly bad... They have had a lot of injuries (more than the Brewers) and could be healthy again by then (or at least healthier). And they seem to be our kryptonite... As for the OP, I think they are a 90+ win team as long as they stay healthy. 81-69 at the 150 mark may make us a WC team and that would be nice, but we didn't go all in just to make the WC. I'd like them to make a deep run in the playoffs. Not that they need a better record to do that, but to be one of the stronger teams at the end and finishing strong.
  22. Figured Hernandez is the King so Osmel will be a suitable Prince. Kings are displaced all the time. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  23. 3 catchers....why? To match our 3 SS. Evidently, the Brewer saw what the Packers did with 3 FB and are trying to mimic them to get the same results!
