  1. Pessimists! 22-0, breaking the 1987 MLB 13 game start of the season win-streak!
  2. I wonder if they could do a Lambeau-like renovation rather than a complete tear-down... That way, its still "old-Wrigley", but updated. Granted they don't have a lot of room to make changes there... But not playing there a whole season doesn't sound very possible... look at how much upheaval the bears went through by playing 8 games in Champaign (granted, that was much further away...).
  3. That is what he said. No platoon. Its hard not to agree with the fact that some people need a day off now and again. I doubt anyone would disagree that Duffy should start once in a while to give Cam rest, but the original post was about a platoon.
  4. Duffy had a nice spring. Lets keep our heads and not crown him starter material yet. He is the 5th OF. If he starts in the corner OF over Nelson, I will be upset.
  5. Of course, would you prefer Rivera hitting and McGehee catching or McGehee hitting and Rivera catching? I expect to see Rivera PHing more often, but not because they will sit McGehee as the emergency catcher, simply because Macha will take the chance, probably in a late inning situation.
  6. Hey! Your link is broken and I can't find anything else about this on the web! That was a good one... I had about a dozen questions going through my head (before the final line): Will Perriard's injury nullify the trade? Will Suppan still start opening day? Holy crap is our payroll going to be high... Hook, line and sinker. Although I've wondered if the Sheets thing might happen at some point.
  7. Something doesn't add up in these projections: 1) The numbers for how many times (out of 6000) a team won the division is not the same number as how many times they finished in 1st place in the division... 2) The numbers for winning the division for every team are ALWAYS greater than winning the wild card. Someone has to be more likely to win the wild card than the division... I could see if you had a weak division, all of those teams being more likely to win the division over the WC. But out of all the divisions, someone has to be more likely to win the WC than the division title. Makes ya go Hmmmm....
  8. If I've told Berkman this one time, I've told him a thousand times: Be more like sportswriters. We don't complain. We get up everyday thankful for what we have and don't focus on what we don't have. We're role models in every sense of the word. Well, you could start with a glaring weakness at sportswriter position... He must be doing this tongue-in-cheek, right? He can't seriously have just written that...
  9. Plus its a blog. They tend to be more speech-to-text type of documents, rather than newspaper articles.
  10. I'll be in Oshkosh for May1-3 and thinking of taking in a game. Best seats look like there are around the 3B box (by the Rattler's dug out). Any recommendations?
  11. I'd say he has a 50/50 shot between him and Lamb. A hot spring is nice, but you can't base it 100% on a hot spring. Same with Lamb's cool spring. I think the fact that Lamb is a lefty makes them fairly even at this point (McGehee's youth+hot spring vs. Lamb's LHB+previous MLB sucess - poor last year). I like seeing McGehee playing some 2B as flexibility is going to be in his favor. And if he doesn't make the club, he could start at 2B in AAA. Personally, I'm routing for McGehee for the same reason JB mentions: he still has some up-side. We have already seen Lamb's best. If Braun is injured, Nelson should get first shot in LF, IMO.
  12. Dang it Hawing, you beat me to it. Not that the rankings mean much... Still nice to be ahead of the Cubs.ANYTIME you beat the Cubs for ANY reason its good! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  13. Welcome to closer by closer by committee! If Hoffman is DL'd, they could go with 11 pitchers and be able to carry both McGehee and Lamb initially. I really doubt losing their best BP option will prompt them to keep less RPs...If anything, I would think that would possibly prompt them to keep 13 instead of 12 pitchers.
  14. I just talked on the phone with general manager Doug Melvin and he said Morlan has been offered back to Tampa Bay but the Rays haven't decided if they'll take him back. They have until Thursday to decide. Under Rule 5 regulations, before he could be offered back to Tampa Bay, Morlan had to clear waivers. That means all the other clubs passed on him. He is sounding like Reuben Quevedo. Looked good at one point, gained weight, lost speed (fastball), maxed out at AAA. If TB doesn't want him back, that would indicate he is farther down this line that we thought and TB knew it.
  15. When you have 3-4 guys that will give similar production (Coffey, Swindle, DiFelice, Dillard, etc) , it only makes sense to stash those that have options in the minors. Hate to cut someone (and lose him) only to find out you kept the wrong one.
  16. Haha! Got to love a Cubs pitcher walking Bush with 2 outs! And it starts a rally!
  17. This article seemed like the normal ESPN nonsense: The Weeks complaints were probably in the ballpark; Fielder's D, sure, but trade him now?; Braun moving to 1B seemed ridiculous. He will be an above average LF with a couple years experience. Why limit him to 1B? Seriously, has any player as significant to his team as Fielder is been traded 1/2 way through ST? Seems like the worst of all times to trade him. I'm guessing Neyer is hoping that the trade will be with Boston or NYY...
  18. Its been a long time, but I do remember sitting on the 3B line, out in LF. To watch home plate, you have to look over your right shoulder (literally, not just look to the right) and I ended up with a sore neck.
  19. You never have enough production, never. Especially, since our offense underperformed last year (at least to expectations). And it will probably have to carry the team this year. Hall should bounce back at least some (his ABs against RHP was pathetic last year), but I don't think we will see anything close to his '06 numbers again. There is a good chance that even improved, he won't hit RHP well this year. You can make up stat lines that everyone agrees with, but it doesn't fit reality: Career: OBP SLG OPS Counsell .343 .344 .687 Lamb .333 .417 .751 Counsell is definatly the sure thing. But Lamb has the chance to be much better. Maybe Macha is seeing in camp in person (which I obviously can't) that Lamb doesnt' have "it" anymore. And last year is reality more than anomaly. So personally, unless both McGehee and Lamb really stink it up at the plate (and having a real chance), I don't want to see Counsell at 3B. And even then, pull up Gamel.
  20. If McGehee beats out Lamb, I'm rather neutral, but I REALLY hope this isn't a Counsell/Lamb decision... Counsell at SS is fine. Short doses of him at 2B or 3B is also OK. But any version of a platoon at 3B shouldn't involve Counsell. If Lamb really looks like the 2008 model (.596 OPS), ok cut him. But in 2006-2007, he was a .825 OPS player. A hot ST doesn't make me rethink Counsell's .650 OPS bat (last three years) and expect that to change. It really needs to be McGehee vs Lamb, not Counsell vs Lamb....
  21. Looks like the starters are pretty much locked in (assuming Looper is healthy) Bench: C - Mike Rivera IF - Craig Counsell OF - Bench BU #1 - NEED: Must be able to backup CF ---Nixon, Duffy, TGJ. - Looks like Duffy is leading the pack, but I'm hoping for a trade to fill this spot... IF - Bench BU #2 - NEED: Probably a loose platoon at 3B ---Lamb, McGehee, Nelson, Gamel, Irribarren - I would think Lamb is the front-runner (LHB, major league bat experience). Gamel may come up in 2-3 months. IF/OF - Bench BU #3 - NEED: Options open. ---Nelson, Irribarren - I tend to lean for Nelson here, but his backing up Hart in RF scares me. Would them move Braun to RF for a game or two, so Nelson can be in LF? Unless someone else is added later, Nelson's power wins this spot over others options here. CP - Trevor Hoffman RP - Carlos Villanueva RP - David Riske RP - Mitch Stetter RP - Seth McClung RP - RP Backup #1 &2 : don't see any specialization needed here, so just the best two: ---- Coffey, Julio, Dillon, Morlan, DiFelice, Swindle (Green, Wright: I really doubt they claimed these two to be RPs. Start them in AAA as SPs) -For cost reasons, I only see one of Coffey/Julio making the team. My $ is on Coffey. -For the last spot, I'd rooting for Dillard, but I'd bet on Morlan. It hurts on experience (as Macha seemed to indicate with pairing Gagne/Morlan), but it makes sense to have DiFelice, Dillard and Swindle in the minors for insurance policies. At the back-end of the BP, its better to have quantity, just because the quality of each is so close.
