  1. I'm mainly thinking #1, #2, etc... in terms of production. Do we have a #1 WR on the team (i.e. top 30 in the NFL)? Not "Do we have a Davante Adams that gets 95% of Rodgers' throws" type #1 WR.
  2. Double post on my part, but sort of yes... We have many WR with the same body type. I would've preferred a 4.4-4.5 6'2"+ type. I can't say I'm depressed about the pick, but Golden wasn't on my list of targets because he is so similar to Reed.
  3. What Golden doesn't bring to the team is diversity. He is similar to Reed in size and skillset, although faster (at least on a track). I think Love needs a big WR that gets open against man coverage (i.e. strong, good routes running) that can win the sideline. Maybe Golden turns into Justin Jefferson 2.0, but I fear that a team with strong press CBs will simply shut us down. Most people figured that out about Reed last year. I like our current WR core, but I try to be realistic about them too. Doubs most likely won't develop more as a WR. He is a decent #2, but his injuries scare me. Wicks could be a very interesting player... but he regressed last year. Maybe he takes the 3rd year jump Davante did... or maybe he doesn't. How many eggs do we place in that basket? Reed is the best WR we have this year (assuming Watson is out) and he could be a solid #1... but he totally vanished the second half of last year... After those three players, we basically have role players. For a game where you often use 3 or 4 WRs at a time, having only 3 legit WRs and have each of them be surrounded by questions isn't a great position to be in.
  4. Yes. I actually like Higgins and maybe even Royal better as fits for the Pack. They may have a lower ceiling, but I think they provide more of what we need. That first rounder is probably going to be decently high too.
  5. I see a Chris Olave comparison, who was a coveted pick a few years back.
  6. Ok, please stop the snide comments about other people.
  7. Watching Golden's body language walking up I was a little nervous that he was upset, but he really nailed it on stage. The interview was great also.
  8. Well, he has the right name...
  9. Long speech..... and the Packers are trading down...
  10. Does anyone really think fans brought their own giant Mark Murphy head??? Packers must be handing them out to honor his last year.
  11. I'm not a Golden fan. I'd prefer Johnson at this point.
  12. Calling KC... Calling KC... care to move up?
  13. I think you might get your wish. CB is the best value on the board now. Not much for WR or DL (that I like anyway)
  14. Packers are picking Sanders. I can feel it!
  15. If we don't get McMillan, Egbuka, Higgins, or Royals (I don't care for the others honestly), I'd love to see Pickens come to the Pack. I've seen a trend among the mocks where McMillan has dropped to the Pack and I wonder what lies behind that? Getting him at #23 would be a steal and an awesome start to the draft.
  16. I'm honestly torn. I really like Giannis, but I can't see this team getting any better than they are now. And if they wait too long, they won't get anything for Giannis or Lillard.
  17. I'll track the picks as they come in. Round 1: Pick 23 overall: Matthew Golden, WR Round 2: Pick 54 overall; Anthony Belton, OT Round 3: Pick 87 overall: Savion Williams, WR Round 4: Pick 124 overall: Barryn Sorrell, DE Round 5: Pick 159 overall: Collin Oliver, LB Round 6: Pick 198 overall: Warren Brinson, DT Round 7: Pick 237 overall (from Pittsburgh): Micah Robinson, CB Round 7: Pick 250 overall (compensatory pick): John Williams, OT
  18. I was going to start one
  19. Your opinion that we don't have boundary CBs because two of our CBs played most of our snaps there. I don't think the Packers plan on either Hobbs or Nixon playing the majority of their snaps at the slot. At least we agree that they provide the CB floor. 🙂 I'm guessing there is a typo here? You said he wasn't good outside the slot but then moved to slot and played poorly? Bullard at safety I can't agree on. Nor your take on Williams. Bullard was lost at safety at the beginning of last year. Williams was lauded for his play and by the second half of the year was the clear favorite for starting. The DB as a whole was MUCH better with Bullard at the slot and Williams at safety. Perhaps Bullard didn't get a great grade last year, but he looked much better in the slot. Doesn't mean that the Pack should give up on Bullard at safety, but I'd be surprised if Williams is even challenged as the starter. And we agree (twice in one post?? 😂) that Hobbs or Nixon will have chances to play slot CB at times (injury, defensive alignment, shifting, whatever). I just see the Packers planned alignment to be Nixon and Hobbs at outside CB, Bullard at slot, McKinney and Williams at safety. Of course any CB they draft (and they will draft at least one) will have a chance to break in at starting CB, but that floor they had last year (same config with Valentine instead of Hobbs) was solid. Solid enough to not panic at CB need either. I guess there we agree to disagree. 😉 If LVN had broke out last year, Watson wasn't injured, and our DTs looked better, I'd elevate CB more. But WR and DL are still bigger concerns to me. CB and OL rank about the same, IMO. All of those positions will probably be addressed in the draft (and possibly multiple times). Just where do you spend the money early if you have similar players at thos positions?
  20. I knew you were there, but didn't think you'd admit it....😂
  21. Birds aren't real? How will Chris Carpenter explain this to his son??? But on a serious note, I was 19 and in Minsk, Belarus talking politics with other college students (this was 1993 shortly after the communist bloc fell apart). I mentioned how someone's view was propaganda based from their government. They responded with "how do you know it isn't propaganda from your government?" And it occurred to me... why would either government do anything but put out propaganda to make themselves look good? I don't believe in those two conspiracy theories, but I question anyone that doesn't at least believe in one conspiracy theory.... You have to at least question the events around JFK's assassination.
  22. I think the "two sides" of this debate are: The Brewers made a mistake letting him go and I must follow every start Shane makes The Brewers made a mistake letting him go and I hate regurgitating it! I'm not sure how either side will gloat... 😬
  23. I don't think the Packers share that opinion. From the point they extended Nixon, I think they intended to move him outside. Last year might've been a "best player" competition takes it with Nixon, Valentine, and Stokes on the outside and Nixon/Bullard on the inside, but looked like an intentional move from the beginning. And the results were pretty good. He isn't a shutdown, but not a liability either. Hobbs likewise was given too much money to expect him to be a slot CB. I'm pretty sure they signed him to play outside and he has better size than Nixon for playing outside. While both played more slot in their careers, they also have played plenty on the sidelines to show they can play there. Neither are Alexander's level, but they provide the floor. Plus, Bullard showed himself to be very good at slot CB...and he clearly can't move outside (nor looked great as a traditional safety). It wouldn't shock me to see a 1st round CB (it is a key position to take in the 1st round) and we certainly need depth. I just think the needs are bigger at WR and DL where the depth plays more in rotations and where we got less production last year.
  24. Twas the night before draft day and all through the state, not a deal was in motion to seal Jaire fate. The mock drafts concluded with assumptions galore that they could predict this draft better than before. The prospects were all snuggled all warm in their beds with the hope that their RAS score will move them ahead. LaFleur in his hoodie and Gute in his suit, Had finished their draft board; preparing to loot When out on the field there arose such a roar, It struck them like thunder, louder than lore. Away to the sidelines they ran in a flash, Out through the tunnel, they arrived on the grass. The moon shone brightly on a fresh April snow and cast a cool light on the field called Lambeau. When what to their weary eyes did they see? but a team on the goal line ‘bout to score a TD. The faithful QB that they beheld from afar could only have been the fabled Bart Starr. The captain called out, his cadence so deft “Try to stop if you can - Packer sweep left. “ “Now Bob, and Fuzzy, and Curry once more on Kramer, and Gregg, while Taylor will score” The jolly old legend cheered with great pride the victory assured and the bears pushed aside. Now Coach Lombardi spoke up to give his advice “The players are key, but only a team will suffice.” And called out as the legends faded into the night, “Merry Draft Day to all and to all a good night.” - Barry Wester
