  1. I know the juiced ball made its way into AAA. But, I thought my feeble memory was that San Antonio wasn't as big a hitters park as the rest of the league. Is that true or not? It sure seems like a majority of our hitters are killing it. How much do I need to take offensive stats with a grain of salt when looking at San Antonio kids? And if so, should we not be very impressed with Jankins, Wilkerson and Birch Smith. And Derby hasn't been too bad if those type of offensive numbers are the norm.
  2. I have no problem with Grandal leading off. He actually gets on base. I definitely would not hit Moose before Grandal in your lineup. Why stack two lefties together when you can R/L and Grandal is better obp?
  3. I'd say no, not at this point. Heading into May 28 he had a 2.22 ERA. He's had 16 outings since May 28 throwing 19ip not 18.1. FOUR of those outings have resulted in him giving up 7H and 10 ER in 4ip. He's given up 22 ER on the entire season. That cripples the ERA. The final couple weeks he's looked like he's hit a wall and needs some rest. This is the first full season he's been a straight pen arm and he's on pace to throw like 85 innings, a few more than Hader last year, except he's doing it without getting 3+ days off between outings like Hader got. I think the rest over the AS break will benefit him greatly as was just getting worn down and losing his control near the end. I don't know why Guerra went into a funk. But he did. However, the pen has to cover so many innings, there is no "just using for mop-up duty" role this year. So hoping that rest rejuvenates him. If it doesn't, something will need to be done as you can't keep putting him out there at this performance level.
  4. Huh? Obviously the players would love revenue sharing by the teams. I'm sure that would mean more money for them in the long run. It just isn't going to happen, and there isn't much the players could force to happen. How are they going to get the Dodgers to give the Brewers part of their local TV contract? They would be picking a fight with the hand that feeds them.
  5. Yeah, a coin flip. I'll say 51% out. There are players that could or should get better, but there are a couple of players that could come down to earth a little. Plus if you get an injury to Yelich, Woodruff, or Hader - I don't see the team having a chance. The longer the tight division goes, the less the chance of anyone getting a wildcard spot from the division - so you are inviting someone to go on a torrid hot streak and then you are not making the playoffs.
  6. Not even close to what the Mets would need to seriously look at the deal. Mets can still hold on to him for another year and still trade him, so they will be holding out for the kings ransom. I don't even think we could trade the Mets Arcia if we wanted, they would want Dubon or Turang. I would think Turang, Peralta, Ray, Ashby would be the ask for 2.5 years of Syndergaard. Considering he will be paid a steep arby pricetag the last two years and his play has come down some maybe you pay less - but the Mets GM could play it safe and keep him another year easily. There is no motivation to sell unless he knows he is getting a good haul.
  7. Yes he can and he is. He didn't play in 2017, was horrendous in 2018, and even worse this year. At AAA this year; 10.1 IPs - 17 hits including 5 HRs - 9 BBs - 15 ERs - 3 WP. I agree he is low risk, but he is worse than even the slugs that CC has been getting from San Antonio. Rather than sign Thornburg and have him take a roster spot, I'd like to see them promote guys like Supak and D. Willliams to AAA to see what they can do against better competition. I mean... the last one currently has an era of 54. And he is gone. Fine with Thornburg in the minors, but definitely not on the 25 man roster.
  8. This qualifies as optimism how? Maybe suggesting an improved MLB Draft position while still being on the brink of the division lead? They’re really threading the needle here to get the best possible balance in value between the two. Now that is really optimistic. The Brewers are so good they can just pick where they land on the playoffs seeding and the draft board. But when they win the world series, don't they have to pick last anyways, or is that other professional leagues?
  9. Interesting. But, I think the Brewers will first look to trade for a good starting pitcher that has a year and a half left. Unless it is someone like Gio last year that just isn't going to cost alot period. 2019 and 2020 seem to be the window and that pitcher would replace Chacin for 2020. I would plan on trading Yelich going in 2021, like Arizona did with Goldy.
  10. What a "If Only....." Wade Miley is having a better year than last year, especially when you figure for the juiced ball and the DH.
  11. Best relief pitcher....and I'd argue that I don't really care about best as much as valuable and Hader's not as valuable this year as he was last year. Still, unless we can actually get what some people are proposing...and I really doubt we can, we might as well hold onto him for another year or two and see where we're at then. Virtually every statistic, Hader is better this year than last year. Lower ERA, lower WHIP, better ERA+, better K/9....how exactly was he more valuable last season? I assume he meant he isn't as valuable in his usage to the team. Instead of matching him up with the other teams meat of the order or the string of tough lefties anywhere between the 6-9 innings - now he closer to regular closer usage. That isn't on Hader, as the rest of the pen just has not been good enough.
  12. Arcia can and does make elite plays. But he goofs up enough easy ones that it negates that in my mind. I would call him above average, but definitely not elite overall on defense.
  13. I From what the radio said yesterday; If nobody claims Perez he could accept an assignment to San Antonio and the Brewers would pay his entire salary. If he rejects the assignment and thereby becomes a free agent, the Brewers owe him nothing. I don't know, that doesn't sound right. It seems to me there is always a veteran every year that takes their time to pick the team they want to go to after being DFAd. And those teams are just paying the prorated minimum wage for the rest of the year.
  14. Even if they don't claim his contract, someone will pick him up at min. wage cost to them or show them how he has a better future with their depth chart. I can't see him going to San Antonio unless he is playing for the other team.
  15. The Brewers never sign Chacin. I don't see Nelson having any better a year and playoffs than Chacin had last year. Same end results.
  16. Yeah, but you didn't think all those things would happen. That Peralta, Burnes, Chacin would all be bad, Nelson after a year and a half would look as bad as he has and on top of that, you lost a dominant BP arm and another potentially dominant BP arm. Davies pitching well until recently and Woodruff have been huge keeping our heads above water. We're getting to the point that if we can't get the starting pitching to improve, DS's picking up another still won't be enough. But it sure wouldn't hurt... It will if it doesn't get us to the playoffs, and we should have been unloading instead. Besides the obvious problem that we don't have enough pitching, the issue will be - okay we traded for a starter now roll the dice to see who you take out of the rotation - because other than Woodruff, they have all been bad the last month.
  17. Right. He is unscored upon in 5 out of his last 6 appearances. That's got to be better than some in the pen. Plus, I think they were afraid to give him a shot at catcher, because he would have pushed Grandal out of the picture and made the FO look bad.
  18. On the whole - I think if you account for Grandal and the juiced ball, the offense doesn't look better than last year. I would say pretty similar. And the struggles of Aguilar, Shaw and Cain all fall under the umbrella of the hitting coach, right? Unless they are not hitting because of an injury.
  19. Basically, my thoughts. I wouldn't have brought him up until he pitched a couple of games on normal rest versus the extra day he always got with SA. Would have also had him pitch at least to mid-90 pitch count in consecutive starts too. He only pitched one time over 87 pitches, his last outing. So they had no idea how he would react after pitching 97 that game. Just curious how much of calling him up was - to keep a veteran happy versus the starting staff not really holding their own and looking for a bandaid.
  20. I think you have to trade Grandal or Moose for whatever you get, unless you are signing them to an extension (which is a different thread). Regardless of prospects, you are saving that money, which they will need for Grandal 2020 and/or a starting pitcher.
  21. Do they need it or do you just want to see it? They've averaged 5.25 runs per game since he was sent down. Yeah, and there are more runs scored in the game this year with the juiced ball. So we can score 5, maybe we need to score 6. Even if it is not to win a game 6-5 - if you are ahead 6-2, you can use the dregs of the bullpen. It is a huge bonus to give Hader, Guerra, Jeffress a day off.
  22. Don't you think the Brewers were just keeping this reliever down until later in the season? He has not allowed a run in 83%+ of his outings, I think we are just holding him back from accruing too many stats just to save money later. don't you think Counsell will unleash Hernan Perez as closer probably pretty soon.
  23. I agree there is a mix that would work and keep all five with enough at bats, but I don't see dropping from 13 pitchers in the pen. At least not until you can have pretty good confidence in both Houser and Burnes to go two innings if you need them. Houser is getting closer to that comfortable zone for me. But Burnes still has a ways to go.
  24. Unfortunately, the Brewers have a very difficult division that they can win this year. By the way, cut it out with the "people need to wrap their minds around this" and eye roll type stuff. Sure they can. And I'm guessing that is a priority. As pointed out by another poster, their record did not drastically improve with Hiura on this team so that mindset might be a little off with how they are going about roster construction. Small sample size, but you brought it up. Actually the record put up by a poster would equate to five more wins over a season. With Hiura versus before Hiura. A .558 winning percentage vs a .588 winning percentage. That is quite a bit in any playoff contenders season. Heck teams trade assets and pay a high priced reliever like Soria to try and squeeze 1 or 2 more wins out of a season.
  25. Fine and dandy but the SA numbers look awful too. Tell me the last time a big leaguer cared about minor league rehab numbers... Tell me the last time a big leaguer wasn't trying when he was batting in a minor league rehab assignment. That would be the only reason to not look at how his at bats have been going by the eye test and by the numbers in SA.
