  1. @Spencer Michaelis - do you know if any of these deals ever breakdown? I mean the stats seem absolutely astonishing, but ignoring the elephant of forged documents, he could get hurt, have peaked early or had some faulty scouting numbers. I mean I hope not as this kid (literal kid) seems like a dream type of signing. But just curious if you know as essentially 3 years ahead of official signing season seems crazy to commit that kind of bonus money.
  2. completely agree. but like the trades I mentioned (Areinamo and Quintana) just because we are trading out of a strength doesn't mean we have to trade the player just to trade them, and this is also more being underwhelmed by Zerpa who is not a strike out pitcher, and I would have said Mears for Zerpa with a marginal prospect would have been better (or Berroa or Lochridge). Anyway, we will see. I would have thought a controlled player, who got ROY votes would be worth more in value.
  3. Not entirely as various projections have Collins as a reasonable contributor - and just for example, in the most recent article I read which was from The Athletic where Keith Law (yes we can all agree to disagree with him, but he is still a MLB writer and has no real stand for KC even if he doesn't regard MIL very highly) stated "The Royals clearly benefit from this trade — Collins is easily a two-win upgrade over Waters, and Mears for Zerpa might be a wash." So I may overvalue Mears and Collins, but others may see the value as well. Obviously the Brewers brass doesn't value them as much, or really over-values Zerpa. Either way, the team mostly makes good decisions, but will make bad decision as any team will do (still think Areinamo was a way-to-high pay for 1-2 months of Jansen; and also thought Quintana was a lotto ticket we didn't need to send in order to make Cortes go away and add Lochridge who still is a questionable player in this crowded OF).
  4. Wait I thought Stearns went the Mets 😉😂. But yeah the Brewers minor league FAs like their minor league rule 5 players are hot commodities. Success will do that.
  5. Very underwhelming. Mears was the key piece in the Blalock/Y. Herrera trade. So now it is Herrera for Zerpa essentially. Mears was meh in 2024 and awesome in 2025, maybe they worried about a Bryan Hudson like regression and not being able to move him at all. I love Collins, but agree he is not likely a long term piece - he will be versatile and will have some very good seasons but unlikely to have sustained success if I were to guess given he was an older rookie and picked up in the minor league rule 5 draft. Maybe the FO sees it as a "sell high" but again the return is just underwhelming. If I heard Berroa or Lockridge for a middling reliever I'd be OK. But two guys with value for a potentially OK LHP reliever. Not overly impressed. But hey, we have Akil Baddoo which now rivals Angel Zerpa as the coolest names in the roster so there is that motivation - trade away the boring names and bring in exotic names....
  6. 🥲 Fare thee well young Mr. Cornielle
  7. I mean this is to give these players an opportunity elsewhere. Hedbert is a very nice prospect, tons of power potential but could not get healthy, and is getting lost in the prospect shuffle with a lot of high upside bats in the system. I hope he gets an opportunity to showcase what all were hoping from him when news broke out of his potential during the 2020 COVID summer "league". Health and Ks really hurt him and the occasional defensive lapses. Zavier Warren - will he know what to do if he is anywhere outside of Biloxi, I mean at least Cincinnati has a team in the Southern League (Chattanooga) so he will come back home every now and then. The question is what does biloxi do without it's Mayor?!?? we hardly knew ya. This is odd to sign a guy a month ago and not protect him, I'm a little confused. 2 years in a row for Mr. Spain to be selected, also uncommon. The spark plug gets another shot. He definitely was a cog in the Shuckers year (key hits or HR, and some defensive gems, and a beautiful maneuver to avoid the tag and get a run across that will be remembered for the ages .... link: https://www.milb.com/biloxi/video/garrett-spain-avoids-a-tag-to-score )
  8. I hear you and can only hope, but Wilken feels like he is just being passed by several players like Burke, Fischer, Made, Pena, Adamczewski. Sadly getting hurt the past two seasons and his awful K rate are holding him back, I hope the guy can bring it, but after a few years the prospect shine is fading fast.
  9. Ok a few more - catching depth behind Quero and Dinges - it’s likely Wood and which DSL/ACL/Low A catcher can be the next in line? how bad is it hitting the southern league, and what do we make of the offensive stats there - any precedent? Thoughts on Birchard’s season and was his late season surge just his up/down, or could there be something going right and clicking? which Milwaukee IFA pitching prospect makes it to the bigs next - Manuel Rodriguez, Stiven Cruz or Jesus Broca, or who did I miss? Final question - where do we see the ‘25 draftees play in 2026 - specifically the pitchers like Thompson, Morrison, Cairone, Healy and Flores
  10. Victor Estevez, future manager of the year ... we will miss you and your competitive teams.
  11. I hope not. I have him higher on the depth chart just after the big top 2, and ahead of Miller and Rodriguez etc. Wood is the same age as Miller and is better defensively, with a better hit tool. Miller has great zone discipline and gets a lot of HBP. The team must like him a bit, but I would rather have Wood as my AA/AAA catcher prospect this season.
  12. Obviously to be elite you need about 6-7 solid hitters, and 3-4 front end starters. But just behind that is the 2025 Brewers of incredible depth, 7-8 capable OFs for injury, slumps etc. Collins is part of that and like break out prospect the year before in Myers, he will play a role this year. The question is he truly a late bloomer and demand a starting spot with improved production, or will he be a reliable position player with options who will help cover innings and at bats. I harbor no doubt that Isaac will play a key role in this upcoming season, just as a fill in or bench bat, or a regular OF starter in a crowded lineup. Still nice to have several MLB ready OF options. And the focus on him (or Mitchell, or Perkins or Lochridge) is much less if Chourio and Frelick build on their last 2 seasons and Yeli remains a reliable hitter at DH/LF. Depth is the team/franchise MO the past few years - in the minors and in the bigs too
  13. I like the idea a back up catcher for Contreras and allow Quero some more time in AAA. I think a 1-year (or 1 year with an option year) would work best. Sounds like any of those suggested could work, and I do like Caratini as well, but I am surprised by that asking price, is that real for him as a 31 year old back up only maybe with a little more offense but not great D?? What are the odds of a Danny Jansen reunion?
  14. Does anyone have any insight into how the players and the leagues in Venezuela are doing and feeling with a potential US / Venezuela conflict potentially flaring up - I guess answering my own question it’s probably like Russian players or the KHL in hockey over the past 4 years. But you have to wonder if this has impact on them this winter or possibly next spring? Sorry - this wasn’t meant to derail this thread, and mods you can move or delete if this opens up a can of worms sorry. Just reading and watching players in/from Venezuela and imagining Chourio the face of the franchise made me think about that. Anyway look forward to him playing some. And hope Garcia parlays this winter into a highly productive season next year as forces his way into the utility player bench role for the Brew Crew in ‘26 or ‘27.
  15. I love it. Can’t wait Jospeh and Spencer. And no need to worry about time limits 😂 I’ll listen for 4 hours! I may come up with some questions- here is a start Draft ‘25 - which of the HS arms has the best upside, and scouting reports on the late HS arms Route, Bentley and Holden particularly since no one thought Holden or Bentley would sign. ACL/DSL - the ‘25 draft is less impressive than the historically good ‘24 IFA group. Which players are likely to come stateside of the DSL group? And then how do we view some of the ACL standouts like Anderson, Encarnacion, Montero, Fielder? And any hope for Ereu? Low A -that HS pitching group was impressive in Meccage, Dorchies, Dubanewicz and Renz. Did I miss someone? How much patience should I have with Bitonti and DiTuri or should I jump off the bandwagon already as they keep teasing with potential but never consistent and seem to struggle in the second halves. High A - will Peña return? How do the pitchers here stack up - will the Dorchies/Renz/etc group start here? Or will we see returns of some pitchers ie Rodriguez and rehabbing Knoth wind up here? Double A - that IF could be fun with Made, Fischer maybe Burke and O’Rae? And Dinges at C? Triple A - who is there? Wichrowski, Crow, C. Rodriguez, Hardin, Hunt and Kuener are the likely candidates I presume. Thoughts on the AAA rotation- all prospects or will there be a bet (Zimmerman or someone like that?)
  16. I think he can definitely be the back up catcher. The bigger question is can he be a full time catcher in the bigs and take over for Contreras after next season (he has 2 more arby years right)? And what is the best way to make that happen - spend time as a back up this year, or get more playing time in AAA. I suspect the Brewers will find a Haase-type who can be AAA/MLB catcher to fill in wherever Quero is not. AAA will need catchers - probably matt Wood is one, but maybe someone with better defensive prowess than Damien Miller.
  17. Yes he was. Dang. Chambers looks like he could be one that got away. Although he was coming back from arm surgery when we drafted him, right? Oh well. We got about a good season for Hudson not bad for a 20th round pick.
  18. So Eduardo Garcia is still a Brewers farmhand. They have kept some catching depth, good to see Rodriguez back and hopefully healthy. Miller - I mean good to see catching depth but not sure the plan and I had figured he would see a better path to being a regular player elsewhere. With Contreras, Quero ahead of him, and I would argue Wood passed him and Dinges will pass him, he’s 5th option for catching depth in the organization, and 1B/DH is not much easier for him,. Plus his skill is walks and HBP and Luke Adams is the leader for that lol. Still good to see Miller but surprised he opted to stay..
  19. Maybe I can hop back on the O’Rae bandwagon again. I remember the 2023 Arizona Complex league team when it officially ran through the end of August and O’Rae and Baez were joined by Boeve and Wilken. It was like video game numbers - and his speed and contact abilities are great. If he can hold down 2B/CF, stay healthy and add a little pop (doubles power) he can be a MLB - probably a utility/bench type who can be a MLB starter at times. I had forgotten about him this season since he missed it all due to the injury.
  20. I didn't guess it and then was mad at myself for not guessingit. But. Interesting that the last time the team really went after HS pitchers were those draft first referenced in 2017/2018. Before that a few picks here and there in the top 20 but not much. 2019-2021 were pretty much college picks all around and JuCo mixed in. They dabbled a little in 2022 with HS picks in the 3rd day but didn't sign most and then the 2023-2025 flipped switch to a lot of HS pitchers. There are some 2-3 year trends that the Brewers seem to have so it does make me wonder if this year will hold true, or whether they now pivot to like all college bats this year because y'know.
  21. Is Eduardo Garcia still part of the organization- I guess technically yes, but can be a milb free agent correct?
  22. They did highlight Ethan Dorchies in that mlb.com article- so didn’t ignore all of them. He was mentioned as a possible break out prospect.
  23. It could be that we have more information and therefore more familiarity with a lot of these arms due to better access to the lower levels of minor league baseball - or at least that is just me as I don't know that I knew the DSL or low rookie club players as well like 4-6 years ago. And the system wide cap on players probably has been a factor too - harder to keep a few players around to see if they can rehab or get past whatever issues are holding them back when that is preventing another player from coming stateside. But yeah it seem that the players released are more known to me now, and more of them.
  24. Agree. I still think a AAAA type of catcher will be added both for mlb depth like a Haase, as well as someone to cover in AAA. Who do we have as possible catcher there - I mean Wood maybe, but can’t expect Miller whose defense had been underwhelming at high A and AA so far. I do wonder if Murph will start to “force” guys to sit more especially early and the last month given how the fatigue of a full season was part of the narrative on how the brewers offense disappeared in the playoffs outside game 1/2 in the NLDS.
  25. I think this is the key. By having several controllable major league quality starters, with potentially 2 front of the rotation arms at least, the organization can both 1) focus on improving the roster as a hole and not have to chase pitching (this is like a nfl team having a qb, they don’t waste time/resources/money on looking for their guy), and 2) allows them to develop the pitching at their pace no needs to rush them. i agree that there are likely some high end pitchers in our system, and the developmental program can hopefully work on a few of these molds of clay. I do think the organization is in an enviable position with the depth at every level, and who knows who the next Woodruff (average “prospect” who exceeds all evaluators predictions)
