    Hodges works around a two out single and closes the deal. Muddies Win! 7-6. OK on to see what TRats or Shuckers can do. TRats 1-1 in the top of the 3rd. Birchard only 1 BB in 2 innings so far. Shuckers down 2-1, and still at bat in the bottom of the 3rd

    After giving up a SB, Reyes gets the next batter with a swinging strike and the red hot Asbel Gonzalez, and first pitch pops up for Holguin at first. Phew. Still a one run lead, and on to the bottom of the 8th and as Chris Edwards said " a little insurance wouldn't hurt ". And no Chris it wouldn't hurt, it would be a welcome sight. Muddies haven't seemed to have the late game push recently. Missing that for sure.

    Reyes on and walks the first batter, but gets the next 3. OK he is earning my trust this month. Eight straight Mudcats retired in a row (starting with Bitonti's K) and Pena breaks it up with a walk and a SB. But Bitonti strikes out (3rd today) and ANderson lines out. Still clinging to a 7-6 lead. Reyes out for another inning. Gets the first man, and then gives up a single on a 1-2 count. Let's go Anfernny.

    Dikember comes in to get the last 2 outs after Smith cannot finish the 5th inning. Then Sanchez's 2025 season continue to be a struggle. HR on the 2nd pitch (that just stayed fair). 2 pitches later and a double smoked to left. A sac fly gets the runner to third, and then he uncorks a WP that bounced in front of the plate. 7-6 now. And he gets an out on a generous call for a K. Then walks a batter and another wild pitch on as SB and another runner to third. But he is able to end the 6th. Phew still with the lead. Offense will need to get a few insurance runs.

    7-3 game. Bitonti goes down swinging. With the injuries to Wilken and Adams, and Black rehab, EMJ struggling compared to expectations, I’m really hoping Bitonti can get on a roll to join Burke as the viable corner IF prospects. I still see Eric’s ceiling as one of the top 5 in the system (made, Peña, Payne top 3) with his raw power if he can just hit more and cut down the Ks.

    Mudcats third triple of the game. Peña just slugged it to deep left center to score Walther (single) and Made (walk) all with 2 outs. This is refreshing to see - multiple hits and gets runners in. Made, Peña, Anderson, DiTuri the big hitters today Now a tough lefty pitcher in to try to get Bitonti.

    Travis Smith given the 5-1 lead allows 3 hits and gives back 2 runs. Argh. He has the stuff but can’t seem to really take off with a solid game start to finish. Tonights starters (excluding the opener in Mashville) are all in the midst of frustrating seasons, not what most of expected or were hoping for - Wichrowski, Birchard, and T Smith have flashed but just been consistent enough. Birchard too many walks, T. Smith too hitable. Plenty of talent there that each needs to find a way to hone in consistently. And the numbers are there showing the potential they each have, just not that next step… yet.

    Quinton Low and Caden Vire have been opposites in terms of status (injury/health), except for a brief overlap in 2022 ACL. They were both drafted in 2021 in consecutive rounds. Random tidbit since Vire was placed on the season IL recently (suspect serious injury) and Low now on the road back

    So between this and Wilken’s injury (and possibly Adams as well) what else could possibly go wrong? ….. don’t answer that …. Crikes. It’s possible we will never know what Garret Mitchell could bring to the offense as his availability tool is like a 30 grade. Poor guy. But cannot factor him into any plans this year or next until he finds a way shake theses injury bugs.

    That is a gut punch that no one needed. Dang it. I love the fact they won the division, but have to be careful. Missing serious time will be an awful development, hoping Wilken is not seriously hurt and also that Adam’s will not be out long.

    Great write up Mass. Saturday mornings are sleep in days so it was on time in my world. 😉 Nice highlighting Melvin Hernandez,, Marco Dinges (who is getting a lot of buzz), Pedro Ibarguen. And will have to look out for Johanderson Tarazona and Joan Peña. Love these tidbits highlighting some off the radar or “pre-radar” guys.

    It’s telling both about the depth and about the community’s assessments, as 10 years ago Burke is a consensus top 10 based upon his pedigree and success, but he is only 20 on this list and probably 15-20 on most lists. Ditto Bryce Meccage. Adams, Yoho, Adamczewski would not likely make the lists 10-20 years ago, since batting averages and draft status mattered as did ERA (which Yoho has but “only” as a reliever) 10 years ago for example Gatewood, Harrison, Medeiros, Roache, Lara were all top 15 prospects on MLB top 30 based upon signing bonuses and draft status, but also a lot of players in the 16-30 range were fringe prospects back then (Michael Reed, Johnny Hellweg, Kyle Wren, Jason Rogers). But #30 was some guy named Woodruff. This current too 20 list doesn’t even have Knoth, Quintana, Fenelon for examples, and EBJ fell off last year.

    Bryant is just wild. A lot of complete misses. When he is on he is great. But will have nights like this (hasn’t happened in a while) He walked another. So other than the sac bunts, no “earned” outs this inning. Let’s get out of the inning here and move on.

    Sounds win. Jay pitched into 9th and got 2 outs but bases loaded. Liranzo in and gave up 2 run double but gets the last out. Shuckers in extras and Knoxville goes small ball with bunts to get a run in.

    Childers come in for Yeager and keeps any more runs from scoring. Going to 9th tied 5-5. Sounds trying for more, as the former Sound Miz has another nice start huh?

    Didn’t watch but Yeager went 3up and 3 down. That’s 8 IP, 3 more outs from another huge win for Biloxi. i am watching Nashville - yeah don’t do that offense - but love me them comebacks and love me wins against any Cubs affiliate

    Tyler Black comes through. A bases clearing triple !! It’s a 7-3 lead. Wow. Another big comeback.

    And the Sounds take the lead now 4-3 on A. Vaughn single. Bases juiced and 1 out. Black up. Good time to break out of that slump.
