  1. Any updates on Megill? And Hall - do we still think he will start, or use him as another tough lefty in the ‘pen?
  2. Yup. This season keeps feeling like 2022 over again. We had amazing first two months (then because of unreal pitching), the started to struggle and the draft was meh, and awful trade deadline. And the team started to fade. I mean not exactly the same timelines but close enough. Ugh. Like Lauer, Ashby, houser not sustaining and J. Alexander crashing back to earth in ‘22 (ok close enough to how I recall the season going) Turang, Ortiz can’t sustain, and Hoskins never clicked, and Contreras has crashed hard since his great start and his crash at home plate. Without Yelich the offense disappears, and the pitching is no where near good enough outside a few relievers to carry the team.
  3. Who had Chourio outhitting Turang, Ortiz after the first month or so. He is the only solid player. Contreras and Adames as well but not as consistent the past 2 months. ‘This season is giving a 2022 vibe sadly Edit: outside of Yelich of course. But since he’s out for a while. And disclaimer- I watch way more Brewers minor league games than big league games but what I have seen the past few weeks has been unspectacular at the minimum. This club may go 4-8 against the Nats/Marlins combined in the last calendar month. Ugh.
  4. Wow. Cornielle was looking so good for a stretch. But his last start and this one are forgettable. Meanwhile CRod the pitcher with a solid but not spectacular start based on his pitching line. Muddies roll in the completion of yesterday’s game. Newly promoted B. Rivera gives up a run in 2IP.
  5. Obviously year to year variations are pretty big, but the current top-4 (Pena, Made, Anderson, Ortuno) are among the highest (Made/Pena are the highest) OPS and wRC+ in the Brewers DSL for the past 4 seasons (Nadal last year in his second year in DSL, Ibarguen last year, and Y. Rodriguez and Chourio are in the mix). So good comps, but Ibarguen shows that there could be exceptions. And this year may very well be a down year in pitching or bumper crop in hitting. Either way have 2 guys in the top 5 offensively in the league, and among the top 5 Brewers DSL seasons in the past few year is a very good sign. I am cautiously optimistic. But having 4 guys doing so well statistically, probably 2 of them work into serious prospect conversation.
  6. In the link report for yesterday’s games there were twitter feeds of Payne and Burke getting hits in the ACL - the unofficial games. I imagine a few weeks of playing and maybe Burke goes to Carolina and up to Wisconsin maybe. Not sure who else will play right away as pitchers usually rest and work on things the first summer. Maybe a Molina, Holobets, DeBerry or Welch will pitch a few innings. Dinges as someone pointed out could work on catching at the complex or he could be a DH for a few games in Carolina.
  7. First off. Wow to Adams. He and Letson are two great 11th round picks in back to back years. And congrats to Dylan O’Rae - hopefully a few more young man. You don’t need to hit many, but gotta get a few HRs and a bunch of 2B/3Bs to move up and take advantage of that incredible speed and great eye at the plate that you have. Finally, 100% on Misiorowski. If not for that Future Games performance I don’t know if he would have had as much helium last year as a prospect. I was for him staying at AA to hone in his control and learn to pitch deeper into games. He has as much talent as any pitcher but lacks control, consistency and command. He is still most likely a reliever (yes Keith Law is nodding), unless he can go games (not just 1-2 but stretches over a month or more) of getting to the 5th/6th inning. His pitch counts and wildness limit that. Maybe AAA will teach it to him since he can’t just overpower these high end prospects and AAAA hitters.
  8. What a joy to have TRats highlight videos, how many A clubs do that? We are spoiled with that and the Brewers PD twitter feeds. So that’s what a 1-4-6-3 put out looks like. Yeah a couple of odd hits/bounces led to the only two Cubs runs last night. No bad defense just odd plays.
  9. I agree. I’ve been following brewers minors since early 90s with USA Today baseball weekly, so also a while. The talent seems better, but also we have so much more access to stats and players that there is some bias there. But if we factor in the production and age of those A ball clubs, I agree it is full of legitimate prospects, no all high end, but anyone of them could be in the bigs given how they are playing and their ages. I believe they are still one of the youngest clubs in each league, and both are leading their leagues in wins, and top 5 in ops, and top half in pitching metics (era, k/9, whip) per BRef. And Biloxi now healthy- Wilken, Boeve, EBJ, ORae, and young pitchers (Wichrowski, Smith, Yoho) is starting to come into their own.
  10. And Rund goes ground out (nice play by Pratt at short and strong throw, looks like a SS for sure). Then Rund get 2 K. TRats hold on for the win. Nice night for the farm, well outside of the debacle in Gwinnett.
  11. Shuckers held on for the 3-2 win. String outing by Mr. Logan Henderson, and some kid named Boeve with big hits. TRats still clinging to a 4-2 lead. On to the top of 9. Time to close it out.
  12. Hoo boy. Rodriguez starts at 2nd. Adamczewski walks. Now Bitonti up 🤩 But he pops out. DiTuri walks. ‘Now Guilarte - can he atone for his run scoring error? Nope he strikes out. Last chance now. y. Garcia has to get a hit to toe or win it But pops out. Mudcats lose. Ugh. What a comeback but rough loss. Error leads to winning run, and two outs with bases loaded in the bottom of 11. They will want that inning back.
  13. Then it’s your classic 2-3-1 DP to end the top of the inning. I think the runner was safe but he was called out. Phew 😅 6-5. On to bottom 11. One run to tie it again, 2 to win it. Let’s go Muddies
  14. Wow. Nothing but unique in Zebulon. 3-2 count on the hitter. Catcher calls time. Batter steps out but not back in by 9 sec, so clock violation and strike out. Wild next batter grounder to Guilarte and he boots it. 6-5 Charleston. 😩 ugh
  15. Oof. Not watching TRats. But first run scores on what was called a FC by Adams and no out on the play. The next is a ground out labeled as “pitcher to 2B to SS to 1B”. sounds like some defensive challenges there. 4-2 TRats still, but Root in for Manfredi who lasts officially 0.2 IP.. Muddies - a near HBP and the catcher prances on it and throws a strike to 2B and Briceno (Manfredi runner) picked off 🙄 Then Castillo pops out
  16. Oh yeah some kid named Hunt went 5 scoreless- as mentioned in an earlier post. Manfredi on trying to keep it a shutout, or at least maintain the lead. But a couple of walks and a 3– count. Yikes. Extras in Zebulon with A. Reyes in after a heroic relief effort from Flores. ….. and Anfrenny makes him look silly with a K after a sac bunt.….. deep fly. And it’s 5-5 on to the bottom of 10! while TRats give up a run. Bases juiced of Cubs with on,ly 1 out. Oh buy. Tough spot
  17. Walling Ks. But it’s in to 10th. Still from 5-0 down, to tied at 5. Bitonti and Adamczewski at the heart of that comeback. First two HRs at low A for Eric B. Meanwhile Henderson pitches into 7th, out after 6.1 innings, 8K!!
  18. Bitonti!!!! all tied up in Zebulon. Wow.
  19. I think the sentiment on Patrick is that he would be a solid pitcher to keep, but may not have the stuff to entice most teams (except the A's/Rockies who need any pitching), and he is the type of player that can find a replacement through the waiver wire or trades. The other thing is I fully expect the organization to look to release or trade a 40 man player or two (Herget, Haase, Dunn, Paredes, Bukauskas), with an opt out (Hoskins or Miley), and then trade a few fringe 40 man players like a Patrick or Clark (to teams needing pitching or power like the aforementioned A's, Rockies, Marlins etc). Then additional prospects (like Crow, Smith) can be added for sure.
  20. I would go Meccage - Payne - Burke - Smith - Broughton as 1-5 based on rankings and also giving the higher end college players some priority. But just my opinion. I think Meccage/Payne are clearly top 2 ceiling wise. I think the next level is a mix of Dinges, Molina and the other HS pitchers (Tobias, Dorchies, Renz, Dubanewicz), then the other college arms (DeBerry, welch, Holobetz, Welch, Garcia and Hardin) in no particular order. And that is mostly due to draft position and signing bonus. And at this point last year I would have like Yoho and Kuener as the bottom of my list (with Austin and Manfredi), and yet here they are two AA pitchers with a successful first pro year. And Manfredi is holding his own at A+. So a lot can change in the next year.
  21. True. There may be other factors we will never know. But from a financial aspect - he just bet that he will be a top 20 pick in 3 years, and maybe even more like a top 15 pick since he will get his money 3 years later. I can see if it was maybe an organization that has little success developing pitchers, or one with little chance of playoff relevancy, but outside of being in Wisconsin (which may seem like it is practically nowhere land for a NJ kid, having grown up in NJ myself) this is lunacy from a money perspective. I know he is talented, but there must be data out there on the # of high end HS pitchers (those top 100 draft eligible) who don't sign and what their college careers and future draft outcomes are. Oh well. The team spent all its draft bonus pool, but none of the 5% overage. They did sign 16 of 22, which is pretty good considering the # of HS picks. Below the level of the expectations of most fans, but that expectation is pretty high these days. Far cry from years and decades ago where the expectations were low.
  22. Pena in the 9th, gives up a hit/error - just pure miscommunication there between P and 1B. Oof But a grounder to SS and its a 6-4-3 GIDP. Then a deep fly ball to LF but Y. Garcia under it and its a 5-2 Muddies win. Shuckers - Childers is in and walks a couple of guys. Let's keep this scoreless. Gardner getting warm in the pen. Let's see if Childers can work his way out of this.
  23. Wichrowski goes 6 IP. 5K. 2BB, and only 1 hit. Stikes out the batter to end the 6th in style But still 0-0. Although Shuckers with some base runners trying to get a run. But EBJ strikes out to end the rally. Still 0-0 on to the 7th
  24. And our 2024 international class has a chance to be really really good based upon the summer so far. Multiple players with all star seasons (Made, Pena, Ortuno, Anderson, Martinez) and some with upside from offense/defense (Corobo, Quintana).
  25. Muddies in control. Corniel goes 4 innings, and Durow with a clean 5th. Only 2 hits allowed, 3walk to 5 K between the two of them. Cats up5-0 on to the bottom of 5. Watching Biloxi and Wichrowski with a very nice 2nd inning. A ground out, then a strike out looking (nice pitch on the outer half of the place) on a full count, then gets the next batter. Fastball up to 94 MPH and then a sweeper to make him look foolish swinging K.
