  1. If a Maine/Hart swap wasn't already completely dead, it has to be now that the Mets signed Bay to play corner OF and have yet to add a starter unless you count Kelvim Escobar.
  2. Lars is probably outside of all top 100 lists at this point. Gamel might well be seen as the best or most ready bat in the minors to produce in the big leagues next season. I fail to see why these two should be talked about in a straight up deal.
  3. You seriously think a guy that has done nothing over A ball warrants getting you Gamel straight up? You're not one of those guys that thinks every team is the Red Sox and Yankees farm system, are you?
  4. Has anyone asked Doug what the plan is for Gamel for next season? I'd like to hear even his false or vague answer. I wish Tom would ask him... I'd expect him to say something like "Casey is our third baseman or Mat will compete for time at third", but we could actually learn a lot about next year's team if the question were asked and answered however Doug chose to answer it.
  5. I think we sign another starter for certain, likely of the Davis/Washburn breed. I recall Melvin saying that the money pot was dried up last year before coming up with seven million to give Looper for a year or maybe two. I am sure there is seven million per season for two years or maybe three to give Davis or Washburn, but Doug wants agents to think they are done so that we can buy low or at market value for a change.
  6. He was non-tendered today. I've always been a bit of a fan of the guy. He can play a decent second base and even can handle backup CF duties in addition to being a corner outfield option. He'd be great off the bench. I personally wouldn't mind bringing the guy in and then dangling Weeks for a good starter, though I know that plan is very far-fetched. My point is, I'd have no problem having him handle 2B until Lawrie is ready if somebody offers something juicy for Weeks.
  7. What type of offer would you make for the guy? I was thinking maybe Lorenzo Cain, just to hopefully ensure we get KC.
  8. I thought it was young kids that don't like Macha because he doesn't like them? Or is it just all baseball players in general?
  9. Why would the Cubs not have any interest in Harden but would have interest in Sheets? It's unlikely he'll be cheaper...maybe the same though.
  10. Two things jump out to me... 1) What are our plans for Narveson? I thought he'd get a bullpen spot but was really hoping against having a Suppan/Narveson/Halama type competition for the fifth rotation spot. 2) How will this effect Braddock? I had thought he might be in the role I think Lofgren might successfully fill for at least two years. Is this a cue to try Braddock as a starter?
  11. Well, 27 million is better than 31 million if Heyman is correct...
  12. That was the first thought I had too. They did DFA or non-tender Boof Bosner today though and probably will deal Perkins to fill another hole as well, so they might still plan on signing one free agent starter if they can work a deal that they like.
  13. Pretty sketchy rumor from a buddy I know, who is an absolute diehard claiming a source. But he says we offered Washburn two years and that we'll get him as long as the Twins don't offer three. ETA this would be in addition to Wolf, not as the alternative TO Wolf.
  14. I am less "worried" about losing Katin and more worried about losing Cody or Mike Jones. I'd say Cody would have the better shot of being picked and sticking though. You'd have to think a team like Pittsburgh or San Diego might give him a shot.
  15. My guess is we'd maybe trade a reliever for filling this need if COunsell bolts. Someone like CV might net us a nice one.
  16. Nobody wanted Padilla a few months ago when he could have been had for free (well, paying his salary but you know what I mean) and when we were absolutely desperate for anybody that could help our horrid rotation.
  17. I am not shocked Wolf wasn't offered. He hadn't really pitched well the previous few years other than this past season in a pitcher's park.
  18. MLBTraderumors speculates that it might be McCarthy that we try and obtain, possibly dealing Corey Hart. I'd be ok with that deal.
  19. Are you saying that Escobar and Gomez are nowhere near as good as those two defensively?
  20. Yes, I stand corrected, though we'll see if it actually happens. I am pretty shocked and apolagize for the stance I took a couple of days ago.
  21. True. In fact, hopefully we are in a position by then where we have so many good homegrown pitchers that we can afford to fleece someone for a bat of theirs to add to a Fielder/Braun - led offense.
  22. In theory Weirdos, I really like your idea. However, all teams would probably decline that deal (unless you are talking about Jackson instead of Verlander from Detroit). And I am not sure I'd want to give that package for only one year of Halladay, as I am pretty sure he'd never resign here.
  23. I don't know for sure if Lucroy is the better prospect or not. I don't really doubt it, but I just feel Salome is much better than given credit for. We basically did these posts in the minor league forum though, but I think both will make fine full time big league catchers and I hope we don't "throw in" Salome in a trade. He should be a big catch for a team if traded.
  24. Good idea. We should start a Felix thread as well, since Seattle is as likely to trade him this off-season as Florida is to trading Johnson.
  25. It makes no sense to trade him. That's precisely why I've spared you guys of my posts in this thread. It's not even worth discussing. We should have far more posts in the Edwin Jackson thread, but that ones been a few days.
