  1. Not really sure why the Mulder and Harden comparisons are being made above. One (Harden) is going to cost a heck of a lot more guaranteed money than the other (Mulder). They really shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence, much less in a comparison about which of the two you'd prefer as though they are in the same situation this off-season.
  2. Good point on maybe being able to deal McGehee with Heether on the roster, Colby. I know Baltimore needs a 3B. I'd be happy to do a Guthrie deal for Casey, as I appear to be Guthrie's biggest fan. Otherwise, Philadelphia is an option. It'd be nice to deal McGehee and a sweetener for JA Happ. if possible.
  3. What is a guess to what it would take to get Roy Halladay. I have to admit that I think we might make a big pitch for him now. Would Gamel, Lawrie, Parra, and Salome get it done? Is that too much, too little, or just about right? Edited to add that they maybe like Dave Bush a bit too, since they did have him on their team a few years ago and he's a decent pitcher.
  4. McGehee or Gamel probably play in more than one all-star game if either are traded to the Phillies.
  5. Can we even make a realistic package pitch for Felix without dealing Prince? I am guessing it'd have to be Gamel, Parra, Weeks/Lawrie, Salome/Lucroy, and JackZ's pick of any pitching prospect in the minors to have a shot.
  6. Cameron + Hardy = Escobar + Gomez+ 14 million With that equation in mind, whether you agree with the equation or not, I don't understand why people are analyzing this trade in absolute at this moment. Once the 14 million is spent, we can make an initial analysis (which will still be before either player has played one game in the opposite uniform).
  7. They just drafted that kid too second overall I believe. I know he's not ready yet, but I also know they expect him to arrive fairly quickly.
  8. I think we get Mulder, one of Washburn or Davis, and a trade for a solid #3. Maybe Guthrie and a pitching prospect for Gamel or McGehee. Sounds like Baltimore fans think third base is more of an issue for them than SS based no reading some knowledgable people at www.orioleshangout.com . My longershot is Lackey or a trade for Lowe. Before getting Hardy and essentially Cameron's salaries off the books, I would not have thought either possible. Now, a part of me is thinking this particular Twins trade was made with one of these two in mind.
  9. Yeah guys, this is not that horrible. Saving money is a big part. It'll be spent on pitching. I think you almost have to look at it as, for instance, Morrow/Cameron = ???/Gomez. Who we get to fill in the question mark goes a long way to determining the winner of the deal. Not to even mention seeing what stats the four involved in the equation put up next year, in addition to Hardy. One other aspect that saving the salary might enable us to do would be something like Suppan and Riske for Lowe.
  10. With a mullet like that in your twenties in California, what can you really expect?
  11. Are you implying something here Yostinfection, or am I grasping at straws that aren't there. The other Hardy deal rumored here meaning one of Morrow, Guthrie, or Perkins might be next???
  12. That's pretty good power. Almost what I expect out of JJ going forward ironically. Admittedly, I don't know a lot about Royals players, so this name is intriguing.
  13. There's more than a handful of us that think Hardy won't bounce back like some of you are thinking. That's probably the thought around the league...that they are uncertain his 2009 season is not a flash in the pan despite evidence to the contrary in previous seasons. Let's wait and see how he does the next two years or so in Minnesota before we decide we got fleeced. Because I think a lot of the league is simply not that high on JJ.
  14. I'm optomistic that, by going young with Gomez in CF, we are willing to give up on Kendall and go with the winner of Salome/Lucroy in spring training for catcher. I also am sadly thinking that Gamel has played his last game in a brewer uniform, as I have to figure we'll be getting a starting pitcher via trade somehow, and he strikes me as the "somehow" now that our JJ chip is no longer on the table.
  15. Or at least a part of a Twins Hardy deal? From the Star Tribune's Waters... "if the Twins can't re-sign free-agent shortstop Orlando Cabrera, it would be surprising if they don't consider Milwaukee's J.J. Hardy, who is expendable due to the emergence of Alcides Escobar. Lefty starter Glen Perkins would seem a likely bet to be included if there were an offer to the Brewers. " I know he is not the flame thrower most of us want. But I think we add three starters, and getting a lefty like this that we'd control through 2012 wouldn't be all that bad. As we know, chances of numbers improving when moving from the AL to the NL are pretty decent too. It sure will be interesting to see what we end up getting offered for Hardy, and which offer Melvin ends up taking. Thoughts?
  16. Me thinks Melvin learned his starting pitching lesson and will remedy it similar to how Ron Wolf remedied his cornerback position the year after Randy Moss arrived in Minnesota. Except instead of drafting a corner back with his first three selections, Melvin is going to land us four new starting pitchers that will start at least ten games for us. (so three new full-season starters with a fourth that fills in when needed). Anybody want to take that bet.
  17. The only way to consider this deal is if you think Matthews Jr could essentially equal Cameron. Then we wouldn't need to pay Cameron and/or it'd be like dumping Suppan for free. I don't expect a Vazquez-type (meaning a guy that is overlooked due to his poor recent past and high salary) turnaround for the guy though, so I'd stay away, but Doug sure has been better at finding position players than pitchers.
  18. I think our starters we add will be Washburn, Hardy trade starter, Mulder starting in AAA but a possibility around June depending on how he does. Mulder won't be counted on though. The only thing I'll add is there is also a chance McGehee or Gamel are dealt for yet another starter depending on what the market is and what the plan is for the two. But I am guessing both return and we add Washburn and whomever from the Hardy trade to the rotation immediately and that we do sign Mulder to start off the year in AAA.
  19. True, but my drift is that I think we'd need to rid ourselves of another contract. Not sure we have another bad one anymore though, which is nice. Maybe you do the straight up Suppan for Matthews Jr. trade and have Anaheim pay 5million or so. That'd be even better.
  20. I will admit to being what you are describing here. I guess this is the abortion issue for me. I still feel I am very knowledgeable on baseball and have a lot to contribute to the board, but I am not going to spend time learning all sorts of formulas that only show up on the most hardcore of baseball sites, especially when the end result the formula yields is so wrong in my eyes. If there is an obscure formula that comes closer to calculating what a player is worth the previous season or what they should be paid the following season, I'd personally be all about studying that particular formula.
  21. I thought about that too JB. I'd be willing to add a total of about 5 million, not a total of around 9 million though in a trade. Maybe making it Suppan and Riske for Matthews Jr. I'd do that in a second.
  22. Yeah, he wouldn't be as bad as people are thinking. I remember so many names that posters have not wanted that turns out would have been a brilliant move. Also many that lots of people were on board with that would have been horrible. I am not opposed to adding Washburn, but would like to know what the contract would look like first. I'd be willing to give him Looper money over three years though if that'd get it done.
  23. If you know the end result is wrong, your only motivation for even "looking into it" would be to find out why/where it is wrong. Anyone without the time on their hands to read up on such a thing would just simply say it's a bad formula and not worry about it. You won't hear about WAR or Fangraphs from players, managers, analysts, even rotoworld. You'll hear about it on the site and mlbtraderumors. I will say that if they take the player dollar value off of their formula, it might make more sense. Might. But until that happens, it's hogwash that is frustrating to read. I get sick and tired of every single SS and CF being rated so highly by the site and then posters who I respect here coming and telling me that so-named brewer is worth that much and we had better pay him that much. But that's just one man's opinion, and one who admittedly does not like obscure data.
  24. If somebody tells you that they outright HATE a certain ethnicity, do you let them go into all of the reasons why they hate that ethnicity, or can you simply make note of the end result (the hate of the ethnicity or for instance Kapler being worth over 5 million last year) and realize it's not worth your time?
  25. I was waiting for someone to word it like that Dadofandrew.
