  1. Endder, assuming Mark A spends every dollar he budgets us for for this coming season, don't we have to consider the eight million or so dollar savings as part of this trade? It certainly is not as black and white as Cabrera is a downgrade on the field in 09 from Cameron, is it?
  2. A trade of Cameron saving us about 7-8 million depending on what we get in return, should not only not be judged until the offseason is concluded (see where the money savings goes) but it should not be judged until we see how Cam does with the Yankees vs. how whomever we get does with us in 2009.
  3. I'd have an interest in Cabrera and an effective reliever. But I'd be hesitant to deal Cam this early.
  4. Stetter, if Shouse is resigned.
  5. There is no reason to offer CC less than 20 mil per year. Period.
  6. Guys, I called Brad Fischer being on staff before Macha was officially hired. Just want to pat myself on the back. It makes too much sense for him not to coach here.
  7. While I know next to nothing about Byrd beyond his career record, I don't really like how often people say "he's just another Suppan". It seems as though everyone that isn't a number one or top notch number two starter that is on the market gets labeled "just another Suppan" by us on the board here. I'll tell you what. Doug is going to need to find out which of these "another Suppan's" is actually much better than Jeffrey if we are going to be contenders in the coming years. I can guarantee you there are starters beyond CC, Sheets, Lowe, Burnett, Demspter that are out there in free agency and will have a very nice next three years or so. It's up to Doug to find out which couple/few those are. I really think we are labeling too many pitchers "just another Suppan". I am not happy with his performance on the mound. But I also don't want us to say "we are never going to go after another starter in free agency unless it's a 100 million a year type." That is kinda what we are saying when we label everyone as another Suppan. That just seems like an unwise plan for the brewers to have.

  10. I'd have rather he kept Ray Rhodes than Mike Sherman, though both were awful. I still think Rhodes could have done more if given the several years Sherman was given than Sherman himself got and ended up doing.
  11. Not sure if this will fit here or generate a good discussion. My question is, Do you think it would be an advantage for us to pull the trigger on a trade BEFORE free agency really starts, or would it be better to see what the market is like before pulling the trigger. I guess my thought is that I am assuming Hardy and Fielder are at least dangled to see what type of offers they'd yield. I just wonder how good of an offer they'd need to get to pull the trigger before free agency begins. My second thought is that, I believe Melvin said a year or two back, that it's easier to sell high on hitting than pitching in the offseason. Likewise, he said it's easier to buy low on pitching than it is during the regular season. Just some things to keep in mind as we enter what should be a busy offseason. Does anyone else have any inklings as to how Doug will approach the offseason?
  12. Yep, Melvin said something like "I have no idea what this roster will look like so you'll have to wait until spring training" The big move or two we make are going to yield many secondary moves (5-6 25man roster ones I'd guess).
  13. Can anyone confirm if we'll see this on tv live? FSN Wisconsin for us Madison guys maybe?
  14. Gillespie had better get protected. It would be insane not to protect him.
  15. I actually knew nothing about the guy but am quite impressed by his numbers, relatively speaking. I'd have to say without looking that his numbers in AAA project better than any of our regulars there from last year, save Nelson, and this guy has more versatility.
  16. Place your bets here. While he knows all of the minors real well, I think he picks a brewer. Question is, who do you think it'll be?
  17. He should be able to at least be a pretty good hitting catcher with fairly poor defense. These guys still make backups in the MLB for teams that want the opposite of Gary Bennett as their backup catcher. And some teams keep a third catcher that has a bat.
  18. I too hope Macha has enough of beef with Kendall that the amount of games he plays diminishes by at least 15-20%.
  19. Looked up Brad Fischer on wikipedia and he apparently was coaching for Oakland the major league team up until this season. He'd been bench coach and also coached the bases for them. I know Brad has family in Madison and he'd maybe love to come back. Brad is a VERY respected baseball guy and it might be nice to get somebody outside of our Milwaukee clique like many infer. Plus, Macha'd probably want to bring at least one guy that he knew from Oakland.
  20. I'll throw out Brad Fischer's name if indeed Macha is hired. There are ties to the state for him, though he may want to stick out west.
  21. Is it possible that Macha, Randolph, Brenley (heck even Yost) would do things different and better in their SECOND managerial situation? Can anyone recall how astute Johnson and Valentine were in their first gig (I have no idea). Again, not saying those two wouldn't do the best job. I just think 1) they've been out of MLB longer than the others and thus its easier to find dirt on the others and 2) they were given more jobs as manager and thus have had more chances (to fail) and succeed. For the many here that love numbers, it does not seem to add up to Johnson and Valentine being in another world as better managers than the aforementioned three.
  22. I am a bit amazed by all the love for Johnson and Valentine. I think it started with a few of our respected posters and now EVERY SINGLE POSTER it seems wants one or the other and despises all of Macha, Showalter, Brenley and Randolph. While I guess I can respect the fact that there are personality differences and tactical differences that are maybe different between the six mentioned, their successes is somewhat similar (albeit in different circumstances, at different times, etc.) All have failed and all have succeeded. I am not saying Davey or Bobby would not be the best hires, but the blind support for one of the two is remarkable to me. And the fact almost nobody endorses any of the "other four" is also startling, as the difference is not that staggering.
  23. This part I do not agree with at all. Are you saying if Kapler were healthy that Corey Hart should not have been benched? Players get a grace period to slump, yes. But they better be benched if they are going to underperform for an extended period of time. This goes for all sports, not just brewer baseball, as well.
  24. Attanasio did have Suppan over for dinner at his house, something that doesn't seem to be the norm. I'd call that meddling. But what were the circumstances? Had Melvin decided, "This is the guy I want to spend your money on"?
