  1. False, 100% false. Baseball has always been a man's game. It started as a game for adults and it has never stopped being one. Yes, boys play it as well, but only because they wish to emulate the adults who do it. I'm not sure why people love this fallacious cliche so much but it is annoying. Fine, he's a boy playing a man's gamehttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  2. I gave him a 3, which is relative to other MLB 1B's. He's bad, but he's not on the level of guys like Dunn and Jason Giambi. His scooping ability and his ability to save others from errors seems to be pretty poor, but there are quite a few 1B's who do both of those things poorly. His range is pretty poor, but could be worse for a guy of his size. So, I'm giving him a 3.
  3. Yeah, I wasn't thinking of Katin as a potential starter, but more of a power threat off the bench.
  4. Right now Prince is 13th in WAR for all of MLB, 7th in the NL.It's not really fair just to look at this season for Prince though, is it? Since 2007, he's 24th in the majors in WAR. Since 2008, he's 28th.
  5. Gamel seems like a pretty obvious choice to bring up, although perhaps they could play him at 1st and move Fielder to DH to give Fielder just a bit of a break from the field. I had no idea the extent to which Katin has murdered the ball over the past 130 games, with 37 HR's. Is he healthy right now? If so, I wonder how much consideration the club will give to bringing him up as a source of serious bench power. His numbers are excellent, so perhaps there's some reason to believe he won't succeed in the majors?
  6. The above contract has the Brewers spending $90 million in 3 years on Prince. That's Pujols money, albeit on a shorter term. Prince is a great hitter, but he is not even one of the 15-20 best position players in the game right now. Let some other team waste that kind of cash on Fielder.
  7. Quite frankly, unless Prince gives the Brewers a 15-20% discount I want no part of him being signed long-term. He's a great hitter, but his fielding and baserunning eat away at his value far too much for a 7-year, $140MM deal to be worthwhile for the Brewers. Even if Prince were the complete package, I just don't think it would be wise for the Brewers to have two mega contracts. That's just too much long term risk for a club in this type of market.
  8. Bingo. That's exactly what I thought, although perhaps it's more like a 12 year old class clown. This guy's classic.
  9. Horrible performance by Luongo so far. A so-called elite NHL goaltender absolutely needs to stop goals 2 and 3. At what point should Vigneault consider putting Schneider in net?
  10. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2411/2139528342_351a8bc426.jpg
  11. I'm betting on Narveson. He has better peripherals and is a few years younger. Really though either would have been a good 5th option.
  12. Man, if Gomez could just put up league average numbers at the plate he would be a very good player...Oh well.
  13. Is it just me or has umpiring been even worse than usual this year? It seems like umps have been blowing an easy call in every recent Brewers game and have been calling some pretty suspect strike zones...
  14. Not to mention, UZR is by far the kindest to Fielder...Dewans has him at -17 over the past three years. Overall he's a -30 UZR in his career and a -50 in Dewans. He might have improved a little, but at 27 years old he'll only go downhill from here. Not to mention that a slightly below average 1B is often a DH candidate.
  15. FWIW, Kottaras is really mashing in AAA. Hit 2 HR's last night. In 84 AB's he has a line of .321/.406/.524/.930. His Zips projection for the rest of the year is about .230/.320/.380/.700. That type of production would look pretty darn good coming off of this bench right now. Nieves ought to be leaving Milwaukee pretty soon.
  16. I'm willing to bet he'll crack 30/30 this season but 40/40 seems unlikely. I just don't see him as either a 40 HR guy or a 40 SB guy, although it's certainly possible for him hit 40 or steal 40. I'm betting on 35 HR's this season with 35 SB's. It's really neat to see players with the combination of power and speed/baserunning ability.
  17. News just came in, Rome suspended for the rest of the finals. Hard to disagree with the suspension; it was an ugly hit and to have that type of scene in the finals can't be good for the NHL's image. Hopefully Luongo is able to keep things in perspective. I'd hate to see the Blackhawks series all over again out of him.
  18. What makes this even more impressive is that there is another franchise that entered the majors in 1998. That team has won only 953 games! Sometimes it's easy to forget about the epic success of the Brewers over the past 12-13 years.
  19. I actually think the empty stands are kind of fun three or four times a season. It's almost like they're scrimmaging or something...There's a major league game going on but at times not a soul to be seen in the stands. That said, as a new found Southerner, I would not want to sit through a baseball game in this heat. I'd much rather watch a game at the Trop than deal with Sun Life/Epic Champions Field/Dolphins Stadium/Pepsi Presents Dolphins Stadium of Sun Life Champions.
  20. Looks like I can finally catch the Brewers on MLB's FGOTD! No blackout restrictions here in Chapel Hill other than for Baltimore and Washington. I'm looking forward to catching the first few innings before the Canucks try and take game three. As for the lineup, I really don't mind Lucroy down in the order for now, given his recent struggles. Seeing Kotsay again is frustrating, I was finally thinking Ronnie Boy was over his man-crush on gritty ol' Mark.
  21. Yeah, I'm sure that throughout his World Series run he was thinking "Man, I could be pitching alongside Mike Burns and Braden Looper".http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif I hate it when fans boo former players for no good reason. Unless the guy was a slouch or mouthed off about the community, etc. (Sheffield), I just don't see a reason to boo. Brewers fans are better than many when it comes to booing former players but it's still annoying.
  22. What signs is he showing? Even if his OBP is rising, it's still only .260. There's no way you can slice it to say Betancourt should be more productive than McGehee going forward; McGehee has struggled, but Betancourt has been abominably bad at the plate.
  23. Yet another reason to hate Boston... http://sports.espn.go.com...hl/news/story?id=6631302 Perhaps a better way to handle the lack of a suspension would have been to handle him on the ice...This reeks of Cardinals baseball antics.
  24. Somebody should go post that Pujols pic on a Cards board. It's like we've finally caught him in the act. Not that I have a problem with celebrating/watching a big HR like that.
