  1. He's probably ready to throw off a mound in the late fall of 2019 so the drafting team get to work with him for a full offseason and spring training and then sends him on rehab assignment. Heck, I think the TJ makes him more likely to be drafted if anything. A couple of guys in his position have been drafted the last few years.
  2. As hard to believe as it is, it's been almost 30 years since Sheffield was a Brewer. I'd guess a good chunk of this board was barely out of diapers when he played for Milwaukee.
  3. The cynic is me says if it was superstar there would be punishments and rule changes ala the Buster Posey rule. But then again I don't even remember the name of the guy that Utley injured that led to rule changes.
  4. Does every team handle postseason tickets this way? I've read through the various playoff ticket threads and I have no clue how anything works. Seems like there are way too many complicated layers with pre-sales, and codes, and ticket stripes, and what not.
  5. Injuries and age. Aside from a one year deal, no thanks.
  6. I don't think he would have gotten all that much more on the market. He's a utility guy who just had a career year. As we saw last offseason, teams are smarter than to throw money willy nilly at players with questions marks just because they're a free agent. Maybe he would have gotten $10-$12M a year on the market. But I think just as likely he would have been signing a 1 year deal for a couple million at the end of January. He took the money now, probably a good move on his part.
  7. I'm not a full supporter of beaning guys but I don't oppose it either. If you have a guy doing what Manny did in this series, doing things that could injure guys like his slides on Orlando or kicking Aguilar's leg, doesn't the team have to do something since the league does absolutely nothing about it? I always like to go back to when Grandpa Ken was running the team. Prince and Weeks were getting drilled a lot (I know Rickie was way over the plate but he and Prince got hit almost twice as much in 2010 as most of their other seasons). You could tell Prince was getting sick of it as he would be quite visibly upset when he got hit. So Macha writes a letter to the league complaining about it. Basically does nothing about it so nothing changes. I don't have an answer for how you're supposed to handle teams and players that play dirty. You could do nothing and just complain about it and come off looking like whiny losers while the dirty stuff still happens. Or you could drill a guy and maybe the stuff stops. I totally get the opposition to throwing a ball at someone for retaliation. But at some point you have to stand up for yourself if those with the power to discipline do nothing.
  8. And it's been a running gag in every episode this season. I thought their mocking of it was another thing they were doing to try and get cancelled. People get offended over every thing they do but I thought making light of school shootings was an attempt to push it so far that CC would just pull the plug on them.
  9. Dina having Garrett's baby only occurred to me at the end of last season for some reason. The timing between their relationship and her pregnancy don't quite add up, but it's TV and that hasn't stopped them before. It would be quite fitting for Glenn and his hard luck character and he and his wife would probably raise the kid as their own anyway. The whole pregnancy storyline doesn't seem to have much of a payoff unless there's a twist at the end and that would certainly be a twist with having a little bit of logic to it. To me, the commercials and the little bit of the pilot I watched when they released it for I Feel Bad look horrible. No interest in watching that show. I barely have enough to time to keep up with the shows I watch, I can't keep adding new ones. The first three episodes of South Park this season were so bad I thought the whole #CancelSouthPark marketing campaign was Matt and Trey literally sabotaging their own show because they didn't want to do it anymore. Tergrity Farms changed that. Great episode. Well, any Randy episode is great.
  10. New TV season a couple weeks in. Started watching Single Parents, as I'm a fan of Taran Killem. Ok show, I'll stick with it. Superstore has really upped their Office feel this season. Even down to the Amy/Jonah relationship mirroring Jim/Pam in lots of ways. Am I the only one thinking it will turn out to be Garrett's baby that Dina has?
  11. The problem was that they tried to market it as a zany comedy. It could be that sometimes but that's not what is was at the core. So people and critics tuned in expecting a zany comedy and when they didn't get that, they turned it off. I also thought Will Forte’s character was too far out there. I get that he’s supposed to be a decent, but flawed human being, but some of the Tandy gags dragged on for too long (and this is from a big Macgruber fan). So in addition to having a low jokes / minute ratio, some jokes went on for too long, IMO. Still, I praise them for being different and making a difficult concept work within the confines of a network sitcom. Ya, the Tandy stuff was real hit or miss. What I find interesting is that he is the only character that grew during the series. Everyone else is the same person as when they showed up but Tandy went from a real piece of crap to a decent human being.
  12. Couldn't really care less about all the antics and that crap. Ya, it's annoying but the only thing that will make it stop is to get the guy out and win the game (or maybe 95 around the shoulders, but that's a whole other mess). No league has any interest in doing anything about this stuff or else there would be ejections and suspensions and instead if they do anything it's small fine.
  13. Perhaps those of us who say pitching we are talking about starters. This year our bullpen was ridiculous. They were lights out. I don't know how you can ask for more. But offense is a real problem and had been too often this season. We don't play small ball and we strike out too much. We seem to fall in love with going for homers when just putting the ball in play into the outfield is all you need to score runs. The "starters" this year were fine. They allowed the 8th fewest runs per game in baseball. And for all the talk about not getting any length out of them, the starters averaged pretty much the league average in innings per start. I'm sure Burnes and Woodruff will be openers next year, which should make the starters numbers look better.
  14. Ya, read the story in the paper about that family and their popularity a couple weeks ago. This is seriously the sort of thing people watch on the internet for entertainment? These people know there are things out there that are actually entertaining, right?
  15. The problem was that they tried to market it as a zany comedy. It could be that sometimes but that's not what is was at the core. So people and critics tuned in expecting a zany comedy and when they didn't get that, they turned it off.
  16. Offense, offense, and more offense. Throughout the year, and still, people are saying they need pitching. You can never have too much pitching, I get that. But how anyone could have watched this team over the last month or so and said, the pitching could be better, I will never understand. Even though the Dodgers scored more runs than us in the series, I think the Brewers outpitched them by a lot. Brewers pitchers were painting corners, nailing spots with their breaking stuff, and just blowing it by batters. But so often the Dodgers just tried to put it in play and they did, reaching on dinkers, jam shots, and ground balls. The Brewers batters, on the other hand, helped the Dodgers pitchers out a lot. It wasn't so much the strikeouts but the pitches they were swinging at. I'd like to know what the percentage of pitches out of the zone we swung at was. I would bet it would be a record for a playoff series if such stats are kept. So many of the AB's last night were flat out embarrassing. I had texted some friends last night, How we got this far in the playoffs with this offense is a miracle. Out of all the playoff teams the Brewers scored the fewest runs per game in the regular season and were tied with the Braves for lowest regular season OPS+. They were bottom third in the league for pretty much every offensive category before the trade deadline and even with the Moose trade and Yelich end of year tear couldn't even crack the top 10 for the full season.
  17. The starter is dead, so no he will not be a starter.
  18. Did a little Googling and found nothing about it getting picked up. Sad day. Maybe it will get the Arrested Development treatment and in a couple years someone will give it another season to wrap it up. Not a huge fan of how Forte says they were going to end it because that doesn't really end it. Even he says they didn't know how to finish the series but this was how they were going to deal with these new people, which isn't a very satisfying or "final" final. It would be totally morbid but I think the only way to end the series that would be satisfying would be to kill off everyone but Tandy so that he truly winds up as The Last (known) Man on Earth and go back to the beginning of the series with him traveling around to find more people. Or maybe following through on driving his truck into a rock to kill himself.
  19. Sounds like ol' Doug-y is a finalist for the Mets job. For some reason, I'm pulling for him.
  20. Has it officially not been picked up by anyone? I thought after the last season it was reported Netflix was picking it up then I read an interview with Forte a month or so ago and he made it sound like it wasn't without explicitly saying that.
  21. I would assume the networks won't let MLB "give away" replays of their playoff games as advertisers are paying top dollar for ad spots.
  22. I don't think it's a crazy idea. I thought Hader might actually get a "start" during the playoffs at some point. Josh is pitching today, that's a guarantee, which specific innings he pitched I don't think matters all that much. I'd be fine with Hader getting 1-3, then Chacin for 4-6, and Jeffress and Knebel for 7-9. As for Beuhler, he doesn't scare me any more than any other pitcher. I posted in the game thread yesterday that Ryu and Beuhler were the two pitchers we'd hit the "best" in this series. And we rocked Ryu again last night. This offense has the habit of lighting up aces and getting owned by scrubs.
  23. Personally, I feel a lot of handedness splits for hitters is just mental. Certainly there are pitchers that will be good against same handed batters because of their arm angle but mostly I think it's just that there's such a big deal made about playing matchups that hitters (especially lefties) just accept that they are bad against same handed pitchers and have lost the AB before they even get in the box.
  24. Brewers have scored 6 runs and had 13 batters reach in 11.1 innings total against Ryu and Beuhler. The two Dodger's pitchers they've done the "best" against. They probably face Kershaw in a game 7 at some point but I doubt he starts.
  25. Assuming Moose isn't back, Hernan Perez is basically a regular starter next year playing multiple positions. That can't happen. This offense needs an actual hitter somewhere after Yelich and Cain, probably more than one to be honest. Maybe that's Hiura, maybe Braun stays healthy and on top of his game all year but I wouldn't count on either of those things. Aguilar is basically Geoff Jenkins, gets hot for a couple games and hits a bunch of homeruns and then does pretty much nothing the rest of the time. And while he seems to make some athletic plays defensively, he doesn't seem that smart as there's been multiple times this playoffs where he's held the bag on a throw with no chance of an out and let the ball get past him. The most logical positions for a bat are 1B and 3B. Shaw can hold his own at 2B until Hiura is ready or move to 1B if we bring in a 3B.
