  1. Not to say that a manager can really hold back a rebuild too much, but agreed that this seems like a bad choice for them. Or it means they're going to try to compete with their old, expensive team but ultimately fall further behind.
  2. From the MLB Rulebook section on umpires under "General Instructions for Umpires": Keep the game moving. Specific rules about when timeouts can be taken would be great but quite frankly, the umpires should not be allowing players to visit the mound whenever they want to. And the umps are totally within their rights to refuse a mound visit if they chose.
  3. The Blue Jays have played exhibition games there for a few years now and frankly the attendance of those games is irrelevant. You could take any two random MLB teams and play two days in any random US city without an MLB team while charging exhibition game prices and they will be sellouts.
  4. Wow, that list is sad. Time to bring back the power 50? Looking over it I don't think it's that sad. Sure, I see only two guys still with the Brewers (Arcia and Nelson) and two more who are still in the organization (Ramirez and Dillard). But at least 19 of those guys made it to the bigs at some point including 11 of the top 20.
  5. No. You just have each of the 8 division winners make the playoffs. I can't believe the ratings for the wild card games are that much more than a series. Maybe this year they are since the Yankees played in one. Then you'll get a .500 or under team making the playoffs while a 90+ win team misses out. It happens. If that's a concern then ditch all forms of dividing teams up and have everyone play each other the same amount of times and the top whatever teams make the playoffs.
  6. No. You just have each of the 8 division winners make the playoffs. I can't believe the ratings for the wild card games are that much more than a series. Maybe this year they are since the Yankees played in one.
  7. Pretty been the issue since, what Ryan Grant was the RB? Just no run game what so ever yet Rodgers still thrived because he's so damn good.
  8. The Giants are interesting because they've done pretty much everything you can do to prevent yourself from having a consistently competitive team over a long period (trade prospects, sign/resign aging players) and yet over the last 10 years they've won less than 84 games only 3 times (and never twice within a 5 year span), been to the playoffs 4 times, and won 3 world series. There's only a couple franchises that have had similar or better success over that same time.
  9. The reason that Kapernick doesn't have a job is the same as why Tebow is not a back up QB. The media circus that follows both players is just too much of a head ache for a backup QB. Now if both were talented enough to be a starting QB it would be a little bit more tolerable but still a distraction. For a backup QB to cause that much of a distraction is just not worth it. Plus you know the fact that neither of them are any good at actually throwing the ball. If this was 5 or 6 years ago before defenses caught up to the read option/running QB fad both would probably have jobs somewhere. But the league has evolved and their skills haven't.
  10. Isn't that insinuating Ray would be in the majors and wouldn't that be a good thing?
  11. lol, yeah I do agree with this but I also am on the side of the fence that believes Kaep should be on some time, somewhere. Pretty ridiculous (to me) to blackball a guy like they have done. Kaep can pretty much only succeed in the read option. But no team has an offense that runs that a lot anymore. Carolina is probably the closest but even they rely on a good amount of throwing. I'd agree he's probably talented enough to be a backup somewhere.
  12. I never knew that Jacobsen was Brewers property at any point. You look at his minor league numbers (career OPS over .900 and OBP over .380) and then what he did in a short time with the Mariners (.835 OPS over 176 PA) it's really surprising he never got an MLB shot again. I'm sure he was a butcher in the field but those are pretty good hitting numbers.
  13. I'm only going off of scant memory but wasn't he considered one of the best bats in the draft?
  14. The players would still be considered MLB free agents and therefore unaffiliated.
  15. 29 is young? I was thinking that too. It's not "young" but certainly younger than most free agents. Also, not sure who the Jimnenz is that was mentioned.
  16. The best part of Favre coming back (which no way in hell is it going to happen) would be seeing the crap storm of complaints that Kaepernick was once again passed over.
  17. Who exactly can they bring in that would be any better than Hundley? Romo, I guess. Kaepernick is only good on a team that can run the ball, no way would he work in Green Bay where he would actually have to rely on his arm to be successful. Same thing with RG3. Unless Tony wants out of the booth, this is Brett's team...again.
  18. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was thinking that. He's a really, really good pitcher but I just don't see him as the ace everyone else is. I'm also pretty firmly against making a big time trade at this point.
  19. The number of "injuries" a study reports is going to depend on the bias of whomever is doing the study. If someone gets drilled in the face and needs to go to the hospital, everyone is going to consider that an injury. If some guy tries to catch a high fly foul ball and the ball lands squarely on his palm and an usher gives him an ice pack for his hand is that an injury too? Totally depends on what point you're trying to make.
  20. To pile on Smotlz some more he said giving up runs with 2 outs counts 3 times more in the postseason. What the hell does that even mean?
  21. Thinking way outside the box here, is there any rule that says the Brewers can't own or be part owner of or have some sort of partnership with an independent league team? The players wouldn't be Brewers property but it would give the Brewers a first hand look at those guys. And I think it would attract all the best available players and coaches knowing that a big league team is part of your management. Just thinking if the Brewers went to the St. Paul Saints and said we'll give you $200K to employ a coach of our choosing and give us a couple roster spots to fill with players we want. No Veeck would turn that down.
  22. I saw Dana Eveland throw a game for Beloit and thought that guy's gonna be an MLB pitcher someday. I guess a 10 year MLB career isn't really "not making it" but he's pretty much done nothing but be bad 99% of the time in those 10 years. Can't believe he's only 33. In that same game Will Lewis hit a bomb. He destroyed A pitching that year for .930 OPS, held his own the next year in AA, and then went to Indy obscurity before retiring.
  23. I'm not all that concerned about Erceg's "short ABs". He drove in 81 runs batting .256 overall this year. In 2016 he drove in 51 in 272 ABs. He's got a run producing mentality and avoids high K numbers by putting the ball in play. His future is hitting 5th or 6th in a lineup. He'll learn over time to lay off pitches in the dirt. If there's any stat more useless to determine a players talent it's RBI's. Except for maybe minor league RBI's.
  24. i didn't watch any of the game last night so maybe those who did can explain this to me better but the home plate umpire didn't know the rule and cost the Nats a couple runs which basically cost them the game and the series? I'm not crying conspiracy or anything but why did it have to be the Cubs? I guess the Cardinals would be worse but are they basically going to half ass their way into another championship?
  25. I'm sure you're all great people but I just shake my head at anyone who buys a beer at a game. Especially now these fancy beers. People are free to do whatever they want with their own money, but what a waste. Cheers to the Brewers for raking in all the cash they can off of them though.
