  1. I would think it's a minor league deal. I can't see anyone giving him a major league spot.
  2. Didn't we have interest in Michael Saunders though? I don't remember seeing that anywhere. And it wouldn't make any sense to me. Saunder is not a Stearns guy at all and then factoring in the loss of a draft pick and I don't see why they would have had any interest.
  3. Only heard of 3 of those and seen none.
  4. As a society we just need to drop politics for awhile. The election's over, what's done is done, let's just get on with our lives instead of being so roped into our joy or anger over it. My friends and I have a Facebook message group which we chat on all day. I just had to turn it off a couple hours ago because of their constant political bickering and bantering over the last 24 hours. None of which is substantive, it's just emotional babble. So I guess that's bugging me.
  5. Wow. He's been around for half a year and I'd never heard of him before.
  6. Who is this Wilkerson everyone is talking about?
  7. I don't think corking a bat or putting foreign substances on the ball gets you banned from the hall of fame so until the rules say so PED's should be treated the same way.
  8. Catcher is really the only position up for grabs. If Kirk is getting starts over a healthy Keon, I'll lose faith in Stearns more than Counsell.
  9. Barring any trades or injures... Garza, Davies, and Guerra are locks. If Wily has no options left then he starts the season in the rotation. I see no way they put him in the bullpen out of camp unless he totally bombs. Anderson gets the last spot due to being a veteran and a strong finish last year. Nelson only makes it if the Wily bomb goes off, otherwise he starts the year in AAA until needed. Once again barring injuries or trades, I see no way anyone else is even considered. I would guess everyone but Millone makes a start this year though.
  10. No evidence for Bagwell, but just look at him. I think I remember some rumblings about Pudge a few years ago. It's not surprising though that the voters pick and chose who they are outraged about when it comes to PED's.
  11. So Dave Stewart works for the Marlins now? In the grand scheme of things these aren't amazing prospects but that's some of the best the Marlins have and they were traded for a journeyman pitcher who's put up one good season. In a vacuum this is a dumb trade for Miami. When considering Straily does not make them better than the Mets or Nationals this is a really dumb trade.
  12. What the heck is Fox Crossing?
  13. I hear what you're saying but there's also a difference knowing you need to go 6-7 innings vs throwing 15 pitches and calling it a night. He might be more clear-minded and relaxed in that type of role. He certainly abuses his fastball and slider during starts so why not do it in the pen. I'm not advocating him for one spot or the other as I think he's gone regardless soon enough so I don't really care. But to start the year I'd keep him in the rotation. If he scuffles I'd move him to the pen and try to build his value that way I don't know the numbers but are either his fastball or slider really that good? His fastball velocity is pretty good but not great and has movement. His slider can be good at times but if you're offering is an above average fastball and an inconsistent breaking ball then you're describing probably half of the relievers in AAA. I don't think his issue is his role it's he's just not consistent nor does he have stuff capable of overcoming his inconsistencies.
  14. If the league can "forgive" Melky Cabrera for setting up a fake company to try and bypass a PED suspension they can get past Braun being a dick (but being right) about the tester not following protocol with his sample. Any time a writer brings this up it's just because they need to fill space.
  15. Which is why I don't understand the urge to put Wily in the bullpen. If he can't throw strikes as a starter putting him in situations where he's going to try and throw harder certainly isn't going to help.
  16. I could be wrong but I thought both the shifts and focus on patience came from the coaching staff.
  17. I wish my friends were level headed fans. The only time the Packers were losing was what, a couple minutes in the first quarter but the whole game all they could talk about was how terrible the team was, and they're going to lose, and they didn't deserve to make the playoffs.
  18. Thornburg and Jeffress turned less than a full season as a closer after a couple years as great setup guys into decent returns. Barnes and Knebel have have no track record and a spotty track record respectively. Let's worry about them pitching well at all before we worry about making them closers to up their trade value.
  19. So why was the hit on Nelson the biggest crime in the history of sports and the hit Wilson took yesterday just good clean football? Wilson took a helmet to the jaw. He was close to going out of bounds and the defender had plenty of time to figure out how to hit him and had no reason to light him up the way he did. Same with the hit on Matt Moore last week. Like I said before, I'm all for protecting players but it's just become ridiculous how every hit is scrutinized to death and the "outrage" or lack of outrage has little consistently. If you hit a guy below the waist it's dirty. If you hit a guy above the chest it's dirty. If you hit a guy while he's in the air it's dirty. Except for all those times that it's randomly not considered dirty. Dirty is dirty and generally obvious. Most hits are just the circumstances of the action of the game and the fact that sometimes those hits are flagged (and sometimes not) and effects the outcome of a game is a joke.
  20. Sometimes hard hits happen in football and sometimes they happen in a bad place for the player getting hit. I'm all for safety and protecting players but any time there's a viscous looking hit nowadays fans are screaming illegal, dirty, etc. When you have guys running full speed at each other stuff is going to happen that's out of their control. I hate when you see a ball carrier lower his shoulder as he's about to get tackled and get hit helmet to helmet and then the defense gets a penalty because of it. What's the defender supposed to do, go for his feet and miss the tackle? But this is the NFL we are talking about which creates 100 more problems every time it tries to fix one.
  21. I am not a fan of the opt out after year 1 in a deal either, BUT if he opts out, you could still put a QO on him at this point. Its just not worth as much in return to the team as this off season or previous years. One thing to consider moving forward, players can only get 1 QO IN THEIR CAREER with this new CBA. That will change the some of the thinking moving forward. I'd rather have a guy now (that hasn't had the QO yet in his career), then play around with that decision process later with an opt out... Are you sure? I thought they just couldn't get it in back to back seasons.
  22. Saw the player name and immediately knew who started the thread. Totally pointless to sign him unless a bus full of Brewers outfielders drives off a cliff.
  23. Considering he played independent ball last year no one really seems to think much of him.
  24. Same as Tyson Ross, whatever the Brewers could offer will just be upped by someone else.
  25. Today Smith was traded to Seattle along with Shae Simmons for Luiz Gohara and Thomas Burrows. Later in the day he was traded by Seattle to Tampa Bay for Drew Smyly and two minor leaguers. I know Mallex never physically went from one place to another but the only way his name could have traveled more miles today would have been if he started with the Marlins. Also, Seattle's doing something. Not sure what or if it will work but they're doing something this offseason.
